Machine Laundry Cafe

This place has really gone downhill. It used to be a Hobart institution but now it terrible. Bad service.

Dirty kitchen if you cannot see how is your food prepared. It is amazing this place can trade in Salamanca heart of Hobart city. The owner is very rude and arrogant. We were seating for breakfast and had a complaint about a dirty dark hair on the pancakes. He took the plate without an apology, but offended look. Next a waiter comes to tell us our bill is to be paid at the counter! The tiny dirty kitchen is behind the counter so you can see.if you want to eat here. The owner said "you are good to go! He did charged for pancakes and treated us with complete disrespect. Must certainly we will never return.

It was truly disgusting!

I couldn’t even eat half of my plate.

The only good thing was their chai.

REALLY RUDE staff, charged us for two items we didn't order and it was a huge deal to simply refund us their error. Food was pretty good, but coffee came out a lot later almost as we were ready to leave, we thought they had forgotten it to be honest.

Don't appreciate a business where the staff yell at you across the whole restaurant as you leave the building. Wouldn't reccomend.

What a ridiculous place! Went there to get laundry done and have some lunch. We didn't even stay for food because most of the laundry machines and driers were out of order and the one machine that would fit our laundry could only do a warm cycle. But no one there, not one staff member, was able to tell us how warm that would be and we had delicates as well.

Stay away if you want to have actual laundry done.

Disappointing experience. The waitress who served us was grumpy and seemed as though she didn't want to be there; grunting and mumbling her responses to us. Furthermore, the blueberry frangipane tart I ordered was quite burnt, but I didn't even dare to complain about it due to the already-poor attitude of the waitress. I've had good experiences at Machine in the past but today left me unmotivated to return.

So noisy at this place. The waitress who served us was lovely young person. She made a mistake with my order & owned up & apologised, which was awesome. It didn't worry me as we all make a mistake sometimes. The issue was, I went to pay & the staff member at the register tried charging me for that meal I didn't order & didn't believe me when I told her what happened. Not keen on going back there, just too loud.

I ordered a coke. They brought out a cola that I'd tried before and knew that I didn't like. When I said "oh sorry, I ordered a coke", they told me this was the only cola they had. I said I didn't like that one could they take it back, not only did the refuse, one of the staff by the door made a grant gesture of scoffing as if I'd asked the most ridiculous question in the world. She was incredulous for all further interactions with out table. Disgusting behaviour from service staff. In the end they refused to refund me for an item I didn't order or consume.

Below average all day breakfast experience.

Heard great things, but I had a shocker!

The tea was okay, food ingredients seemed of decent quality, but the kitchen poorly executed cooking and presenting the meal.

My breakfast items were sitting in a watery, soupy mess on the plate and I had to ask for a clean plate to transfer my food out of it.

Please drain the mushrooms, poached eggs and spinach before placing on the plate so it does not resemble food sitting in soupy dishwater minus the detergent. (Unfortunately that is what it looked like to me and it was an unpleasant eating experience).

You are getting two stars because I do not want to be mean.

Busy. Long waits for service. Food was good at best. Coffee was tepid/warm - although it was a good tasting bean (would have loved a hot second cup). We were not made to feel comfortable as customers at all. From the moment we walked in till the moment we paid the over priced bill.

I really tried to like this place given all the good reviews but their "signature" Machine packed Roti bread was inedible. Maybe bland scrambled eggs encased in a wet wrap is your thing, but I couldn't stomach more than a few bites. The "chilli jam" was essentially a honey syrup with bits of chopped up red thai chilli's in it and there was SO much that it just made the whole dish sickly sweet. It was a fair serving size if you can eat it all, although for $17 I would've much rather have just gone to the local bakery. If you're dead set on this place, avoid the Roti and try the sandwiches instead as they were actually pretty decent (bread is from Pidgeon Whole Bakers up the road which is always a winner)

My heart feels for people who work here mayhem of a café, complete chaos. Absolutely ruined my breakfast by how loud it was … food ok, good quantity

Staff were nice, the place was crowded and loud (though that's not surprising for the space). Low stars because the coffee tasted bitter and burnt.

Unfortunately didn't live up to the reviews. Tables were sticky, coffee was only meh- very small, not really hot (tepid actually), though ok in strength and flavour.

Unfortunately, I don't think this place lived up to the hype of previous reviews, and that's what took us there. The staff really weren't overly welcoming or attentive and the food and coffee wasn't great at all. I won't be recommending it to anyone visiting Hobart.

Most of the actual laundry machines are out of order, and one is rather in the way of the staff. Also very expensive relative to a laundry mat. It’s a nice idea, but if you’re coming to do laundry and for a coffee or something, it’s not a great fit. Nice staff, and the food looked good.

We visited this café during our cruise stop, eager to support local business for breakfast! The staff were welcoming and friendly, which was a plus. However, our overall dining experience fell short of expectations. The coffee was decent, but the food was a letdown. The poached eggs had an overpowering vinegar taste, that seeped into the bread and the sandwich - filled with bacon, cheddar, and greens - was unexpectedly sour, leaving me to only eat the bacon. This was quite disappointing, especially after reading several positive reviews.

Location only does walk-ins (no bookings) even for large groups. So if you have a group or are on. A time crunch have a backup. The gimmick of the location was cute but doesn’t add to the dining experience. Staff service once seated was great. Food arrived as ordered and they split bills.

But disappointing yesterday. Only went for a sneaky coffee with my husband. Ordered X1 latte and 1 large flat white. Out came 2 large flat whites. I explained mine was a latte, and the waitress tried to tell me it was the same just in a mug. Sigh. She eventually offered to change it, but I felt like I was being too fussy. Standards slipping. Didn't order a mug, but got charged anyway just to top off the incorrect coffee.

Came after recommendations from a friend.

Service was good, seated pretty quickly and food was served quite quickly as well. Extremely friendly staff which is always good to see.

Ordered a cappuccino which was ok, a light roast so a recommend double shot for anyone who likes their coffee strong.

Ordered the packed roti with scrambled eggs. Average taste, the eggs and roti didn't have much flavour, flavour mostly came from the sweet chilli jam/sauce. The roti was quite tough to cut through.

Overall, an ok experience.
