Josef Chromy Wines reviews
90 Very pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
We did the "Let's do Lunch" package which included 2 courses a their hatted restaurant as well as a tasting beforehand.
The staff were friendly and professional.
I don't often start a review talking about the dessert, but if it's still on the menu and you enjoy a lusciously decadent end to your meal, the first thing you need to order is the parfait with grilled pineapple and ginger and lime gel. An exquisite end to a wonderful meal. The menu offers a two or three course option at set price - great value given the quality of the food, the excellent service and beautiful location. One of our party started with a half dozen local oysters (at additional cost to the set menu), which he said were amazing. The two entrees ordered were the octopus and the ocean trout - again, declared amazing. For mains we had the lamb and the pork collar - both amazing (yes, there is a theme here) with the pork a particularly generous serve. Flavours and presentation across the board were (you guessed it) amazing. We had one gluten and dairy intolerant and one seafood intolerant at the table, both were easily catered for (this had been noted in the booking but oddly, wasn't conveyed to our server - unusual for a fine dining restaurant - however she made sure to accommodate each of us). The wines were all Josef Chromy (naturally) and excellent. Note that if you want to do a wine tasting prior to or after your meal you need to allocate at least 30 minutes as they have set wine flights (at a cost) rather than individual tastings. Do make sure you book as it got very busy (we were there on a Thursday in early January). Food amazing, service and wines both excellent, good value for money. Recommended!
Couldn’t fault it. Exceptional food, wine and service. The grounds are beautiful. We will return
Sensational lunch to top off a wonderful weekend at the Launceston end of Tassie. Food, wine, service was simply excellent. For this resident of the Mornington Peninsula, these guys would give the venues here a run for your money.speaking of which, truly great value all round. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
The food was absolutely delicious!
All the staff were very friendly and professional.
Gorgeous place to stop by for a picnic and some delicious wines. Great hospitality from Sandy and the team. The Pinot Noir is amazing and grab a charcuterie plate while you're here!
Had a 2 course lunch and wines as well as a tasting experience as part of a tour package. The winery is stunning and we started with a tasting flight very capably conducted by Julie who was very friendly and knowledgeable. Then to the restaurant for a delicious 2 course meal accompanied by a couple of matching wines. Can’t speak more highly of the food, service and ambience of the facility. Highly recommended.
We had the most magical lunch celebrating my mother's birthday and something she will remember forever. Rebecca was attentive and so warm, making this one of the best meals we've had in tassie. The short rib was also without a doubt, one of the best I've had in my life! This is a must if you're in launceston.
I love taking visitors to Josef Chromy, but today they went above and beyond. My son's partner is vegan and they supplied her own plate of yummy treats alongside our charcuterie board. She felt really special and we had a fabulous afternoon. Thank you so much.
Did a wine tasting guided by Sandy. She was AMAZING. Super knowledgeable with an intricate understanding of all things wine. Wine was superb and antipasti platter hit the spot (nothing too stand-out-ish. Just a platter)
Excellent service, exquisite food and great atmosphere. Made a note on my book for birthday lunch and they gave us complimentary sparkling on arrival making my day.
Beautiful views. Staff extremely accommodating and personable. Great vegan options. Highly recommend the vegan cheese board!
Wine tasting was a wonderful experience - our server was highly knowledgeable. Lunch was also delicious.
Gorgeous venue and a good wine selection to choose from.
Highly recommend booking the restaurant after a wine tasting
Excellent fabulous tour with bea, great meal in the restaurant, attentive knowledgeable friendly staff and Barbara the gardener deserves a mention as well
Amazing behind the scenes tour with our host Justin being very good and making the tour more memorable we had tastings followed by lunch a must do as it was so good and so was the lunch got a bonus too we got to meet the great man Josef that happened to be dining in the restaurant amazing history here of a man that had a vision and made it happen
I'm Celiac and took time to explain that I am very allergic to gluten. After talking through my options with the waitress/chef I selected two dishes and an error was made as I was glutened and ill within 30 minutes of eating my meal. Would not recommend for Celiacs or people with allergies.
I’ve been hooked on their Zdar Pinots for a number of years and still only have a couple of the 2012 bottles left. Finally got down to Launceston yesterday and went there for lunch. The atmosphere, surrounds, service and the food & wine were impeccable. I had a glass of their 2017 Riesling and a glass of their 2019 Pinot - both were superb. Highly recommend this establishment
Enjoyed our wine tasting, especially we were sat down by the big window overlooking the vineyard. We also made reservations for lunch, and it was delicious! They also have a great outdoor space to accomodate large groups. The day when we were here, there’s a group of more than 30 people. Make sure you also spend some time walking around the estate, there’s a lake:)
Beautiful winery, not so great service. We were refused a tasting when we walked in, told it would be a 45 min wait until next tasting then a structured 45 minute tasting from there. We had other plans this afternoon and couldn’t afford to wait then stay that long. Never had an experience like that at a winery (and we go to wineries all the time, all over the country). We had a glass of wine in the garden, beautiful and peaceful with lovely grounds and view. I picked a Pinot noir that was more savory that I like but how would I know without a tasting? ️
Their reasoning was due to COVID. But no other wineries around have these structured rules.
If we’d known I’m sure it would have been a different experience. We drove out of our way to go there based on recommendations and left disappointed.
