Bruny Island House of Whisky reviews
67 We were excited to visit this place for some whisky tasting. As it is located right next to the ferry and away from other attractions of the island, we thought we’d save this for the end of the day on the way home - rather than drinking at 10am. The opening hours are listed till 5.30pm. Unfortunately when we arrived just before 5.00, we were told that they’d stopped serving about 10mins prior and weren’t able to accommodate us at all (other than to purchase a whole bottle to take away).
This was rather disappointing, and also quite unexpected to be turned away from ~40mins before the closing time even though in my experience tastings generally are a 15min affair on average. Just sharing this experience as a word of caution to others with their planning.
The Seclusion Saffron gin was stunning. Shame to have it served with tonic from a 1.1L Schweppes plastic bottle. At $145 for 700ml, I expect quality tonic. Too, the staff had zero knowledge of the product they were serving.
Nice place, friendly staff, but they are just too stingy with the flights. Admittedly we were sharing one (at $45 for 4 gins no way would we buy 2) but even for one the amounts seemed tiny. Maybe they are keeping us sober…?
Definitely worth a stop on your way off the Bruny Island ferry. My partner and I did the gin tasting which was lovely! We particularly liked the blue butterfly gin that changes colour when tonic water is added. Staff were friendly and the views are beautiful. Worth a visit!
Fantastic stop on our drive through Bruny Island.ended up with a spectacular bottle of whisky and a bunch of new knowledge about the Tasmanian whisky industry and how its competing with (and occasionally exceeding!) the industry in Scotland. A must stop for whisky lovers - great tasting flights and an amazing chat with the woman who worked there.a fount of knowledge. Highly recommend!
Nice comfortable setting. Great gin and whiskey range from distilleries across Tasmania. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
We did both the gin and whiskey tasting here. The tasting prices are quite general, whilst the bottle prices are quite steep. However, the gin and whiskey are all quality drops. I absolutely loved the gins and the flavour really opens up on all of them with a dash of tonic water added in. The blue floral gin puts on quite a show with the colour changing, and the saffron gin was harsh on first taste but really really nice with a dash of tonic. This place is definitely worth the stop on your Bruny Island getaway.
Arrived late in day, service was friendly. Very expensive for a 15ml tasting of average whisky not made on site. Lots of other tassie whisky to try. $20 for a single tasting and $55 for a flight of 3 for the house whisky. Beautiful spot I will say tho!
Highly recommend! The staff are very friendly and informative. Great atmosphere. Gin was beautiful!
Complex tasting whiskeys set against a picturesque backdrop. The perfect way to end your stay on the Island, just a few minutes away from the Ferry Terminal.
Brilliant! I'm a single malt "tragic" so was right at home and in my element. Excellent display and choices of the Tasmanian Distillers art at it's best. Service is excellent and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
I'd love to try but because i need to drive, i couldn't drink, i still visit this place for whisky or gin souvenir, a must try
Fun stop on Bruny Island. Do this on your way back from the lighthouse. Great Gin! Beautiful Alpaca shawls and scarves.
Had a great experience here. Was fairly quiet due to a cold rainy day but there was a warm fire burning inside. Bartender was friendly and informative. Whiskeys were nice and so was the gin. They had a toy box in the corner to keep the kids busy which is nice for parents who still want to experience the occasional grown up activity on a family holiday.
Great experience here on a weekday. We had the whisky and the gin tasting flights and the gentleman serving us gave us a good explanation of the different whiskies and gins.
Went there to try whiskey. Didn't like it. How ever they make the best gin I have tasted. Their gin and tonic was the best thing I have ever tasted. Magnificent
A wonderful spot to try a few tastings - the 4 of us did a gin tasting and we weren't disappointed! Delicious mix of gins with a great explanation of each by our server. Only $30. Highly recommended if you're in the area!
Not knowing much about Whisky I was excited to learn more and try and find something I liked. Asking for a Whisky flight, I had 3 glasses dropped on the table, their names listed when I asked for more info, and that was it. For $55 I was expecting to be talked through what was on offer, and run through a tasting. Very disappointed.
Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Had almost every Tasmanian whisky you can find. Will definitely visit again. Remember to buy the alpaca scarves and shawls as well. So soft!
Great service, gent that runs it knows his stuff and certainly gave us a memorable experience! Would recommend stopping by and supporting a great business!
