Hello my partner and me are very disappointed in Bargain Renatals.
We hired a Toyota Hiace Camper 2019 model for two weeks, to travel through Tasmania. It was raining every now and than, and the back sliding windows, were not sealed properly. The mattress we sleept on got drenched.

Beside that the kitchen tap did not work, even tho the water tank was full. The Staff even tried to get the water pump going when my partner dropped the van, but they were clueless aswell. This issue forced us to stay at more expensive camp grounds with water tap on the camping spot.

Also there were glass splitter in the boot, as the van had a new replaced back window. However, it is dangerous to leave the glass splitter in the boot.

We paid around 1500$ for two weeks. And the office at Launceston received our complaint already and promised that they will get it to the head office. It has been two weeks and we haven't heard anything yet. Very bad service and product.

Charged me for a service I had cancelled through a proxy service. I never used their service and have a 700+ charge processed on my card. I called to correct this and yet the charge remains.

I booked the campervan via VroomVroomVroom Website. I didn't know it's Bargain until I received Bargin's confirmation email.
It's the first time I hired a car so I bought the Excess Reduction when I made the booking. When I pick up the campervan, the counter lady advised us to buy the Excess Reduction. I told her I did and showed her the paperwork. She said it's not her company then she kept quiet. I was really really confused. What's the difference? She was not willing to talk more about it. At the end, we didn't choose any plan from the company. To be honest, her attitude was really bad. I don't understand why the manager put her in the front counter.
Then she took us to the van and passed 2 paper to me. She said if I had any problems, rang the numbers on 1 of the paper. Then she opened the door and said that's the van. That's it. Without any induction, we needed to find everything out by ourselour. We have no knowledge about the van. So we took a long time to study the manual during the trip.
Someone hit the tail light cover of our van during the trip. I rang Bargain and reported to them. Then the customer service staff said she would pass to Launceston staff and they would follow up and ring me back. But they never ring me back. I just wanted someone to tell me what to do. Do we need to fix it first? Or do we need to take it to the nearest Bargain office? No one answered my questions. At the end, I rang the insurance company and they told me that the car hire company would charge me when I return the car. After they fixed the car, they would send the invoice to me. They may refund some money to us if they overcharged me before or I need to pay more if the invoice costs too much. At the end, I can send the invoice to the insurance company to claim the money back. I was glad that I chose the online insurance company, not Bargin. They are totally useless.
At last, the tail light cover costed $180 to fix. Bargin charged us $210 admin fee, $145 off road fee. Are you serious? Over $200 admin fee. It's totally a rip off.
Too much unpleasantness with them. Totally not recommend at all.

Absolutely awesome. Great work. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cars are modern. Pickup and drop off service to the airport was excellent. Made our trip so much easier. Thank you.

I recommend you to not go here. The service was appalling. It took 7 phone calls and 1 hour to be collected from the airport to be able to get to the hire car place.
When we arrived we were met with disinterested staff one of which told us, and any one in ear shot, about a highly inappropriate sex toy story that had no relevance to what was being discussed.
4 staff behind the desk but no one actually assisting customers.
They turn off all the gps features of their cars to make you pay more for their gps systems.
I dreaded returning the car to have to deal with them again.
I recommend you go somewhere else!

I was a little concerned when booking this simply because the prices were so much lower than their competitors. No need, the entire process was fantastic from start to finish. The shuttle picked us up within 5 minutes of our arrival. The car was near new with only 12000 kms on clock. Drop off at Hobart airport was equally as easy. Highly recommend this company. We will definitely be using them again & telling our friends & family. Great service!

Bargain Car Renters Beware!

Our experience with Bargain Car Rental proved most costly! In February 2019, we hired a Nissan x- Trail for 15 days and took up their recommended National Gold Liability Package Insurance.

When we picked up the car and paid with our credit card, we were not told of any credit card fee. There was no notice of the 1.5% surcharge on display. As there was no cash transaction you are at their mercy for credit card fees. We only realised the fees upon checking the bill after payment!

We opted to increase the cover to their “Gold” insurance package for an extra $25 p/day for the reduced excess of $1,250 after being reassured that this package will limit our excess liability to $1,250. There was no mention of any other costs payable. We were given an iPad to sign the deal. Regrettably, the amount of information displayed per iPad screen is limited, but we signed it and quite reasonably relied on utmost good faith, honesty and fairness approach. No paper copy of the Rental Agreement was given to us.

Bargain's records indicated existing scratches and dents on the car which were marked out on the form provided before we left the premises. The car was dirty during inspection and we waited while it was sent for washing. During our travels, the car sustained two minor dents/scratches on the bonnet after hitting a flexible plastic road marker to the passenger side. Upon returning the car, we were made to pay $1250 for excess on insurance. The manager staff gave us the “final bill” and reassured us the matter was now closed.

Bargain's records indicated existing blemishes near the ones caused by us. There were no less than 21 other existing blemishes as well as stone chips on the front bumper. A month later, I found a charge of almost $600 was made on our credit card without any authority. I asked when do Bargain decides which customer to charge for loss of use when there were already other scratches/blemishes on the car. We were charged for 7 days “off the road” costs! This was never highlighted when we took out their Gold Insurance and certainly not when we settled the excess. One would expect that the days “off the road” forms part of the insurance cover. We were also charged for “Admin/Assessment Costs” for the repairs. How unscrupulous? The actual invoice provided by the car repairer (appointed by Bargain) indicates the car was in workshop from 15/3/2019 12.00 am and out by 20/3/2019 12.00 am - a period of 5 days but we were charged for 7 days "off the road". Whilst a subsequent reduction by 3 days and refund of credit card charges "as a show of good faith" were made after we complained, this indiscipline charge shouldn't occur. Bargain has been caught out!

The Agreement signed on 12 February 2019 does not entitle Bargain Car Rental to make further charges to our credit card beyond that date. Any further charges require separate approval. It's a worry!

The charging “off the road” or any other costs, was completely contrary to our understanding of an insurance cover. Insurance should be containing the insured's liability exposure in an accident. Shouldn't the payment of additional premium of $25 per day, and the stipulated excess, the customer’s obligations would be fully discharged. Surely this is not in line with the spirit of insurance protection?

What about the scratches and marks on the vehicle already there when we picked it up? At what stage would Bargain decide to bill one particular customer for the loss of use? Are all the previous customers then “spared” of this charge? Shouldn't Bargain provide customers with clear, honest, and key information on charges, risks and obligations on the spot and face to face. Rather, as it appears in our case, it chooses to present the surprises / bad news after the customer has returned home and safely out of the way, with no recourse to discuss the issues with counter staff or review the damage to be repaired. We feel this is utterly distasteful and completely unprofessional.

Needless to say, we would definitely NOT recommend Bargain to anyone!

The worst car rental experience I’ve ever had. The female staff picked up us in the airport was extremely rude and not helpful at all, more than anything else, she refused to check up together prior to handing over vehicle even if there is major discrepancy between initial inspection report they made and actual state of multiple scratches and a couple of unreported dents, which is nearly scamming to customers.

Has to wait for one hour and 12 minutes for a car reserved and paid. Poor customer service! No reason for delay! Ask us to go somewhere else when we urged!

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY.

Your holiday could be ruined before it even starts.

We arrived at the airport to be greeted by a very unfriendly and unhelpful man with his van to transport us to the offsite office. He gave terrible instructions and did not offer a young family a hand in getting their luggage into the van.

At the office we were told that our booking had been cancelled. A surprise to us given we received a confirmation email that morning from the agent. The company took no steps to help the situation and blamed it all on the agent.

Rude, disrespectful, unpleasant, un-Tasmanian. Just a few words to describe the staff at Bargain Car Rentals.

The happy end to our story was that we went back to the airport and were helped out by Brooklyn at Budget. Our holiday was back on track, no thanks to Bargain Car Rentals.

Low costs poor service car rental, no instruction on dropping off car on Sunday at Launceston airport, I had wasted half hour on non responsive customer service hotline (cold line) and luckily I called Hobart airport to find return option otherwise I would have continued to wait for non responsive customer service risk missing my flight.

These guys are a bunch of crooks. NEVER EVER hire a vehicle off this company! They charge you for days that you don't even want the vehicle. Just money hungry thieves. Avoid at all costs!
