Sotos Fish Shop

Use to be good. Last time I ate here the chips were soggy and undercooked the fish was dripping in oil. Over all disappointing experience.

Love popping in to grab the best fish and chips and eating them on the large grassed Semaphore Rd centre median, batter always thin and well drained

Still the best fish n chips in Semaphore, always good, fast service (when they are not over run with orders because they are so popular), great staff

Have always gone to sotos when going for a beach visit, usually have the best service, visited today, walked in and stood by the register and was completed ignored by the two women at the register, not even a ‘hello’ or ‘will be with you in a moment’. Stood there for a while until another guy yelled out my online order that I was there to pick up. Wasn’t even busy, only a couple of people waiting outside unlike the normal dozens! Hopefully the bad service was a once off as sotos has been our family go to for years!

Sadly, this place is hit and miss. A couple of weeks ago we had a lovely, juicy, fresh piece of cod. Melt in the mouth with a crisp batter.

Tonight my evening has been ruined with a dry, stringy piece of cod that tastes of old oil.

Come on guys. You can do so well. How on earth do you destroy it so badly on other occasions?

The food tasted ok but the service was rude and one of the waitresses used unfriendly gestures and language towards me and the experience was poor

Whats the point of ordering online if they don't make it till you get there? Waited an hour from ordering - get to the store and only then they say they'll make it then and there! Another half hour wait! The battered fish is good and I finally got to try sotos but don't think we will be back for a while.

Ordered the 3 butterfish, calarmari, chips and seafood stick and waited over an hour. Everything was dripping in oil, we were so hungry by this point (walked on foot with the dog from Largs) but ended up hardly eating anything as it was way too oily. Something has changed with the chips here are they are not nearly as good as they used to be. After waiting for over an hour, our phones had gone flat, when our order was finally ready we asked for a few extra sauces as three sachets was just not enough. We were asked to pay 60 cents each, being on foot with no wallet and with both our phones being flat we couldn’t pay for additional sauces, after waiting for so long a few extra sauces couldn’t be chucked in? ! Very disappointing, I understand summer nights can be busy and we would have been more than happy to wait for a meal that was quality and worth waiting for, but we will not be back, dropped the ball Sotos.

I used to come here years ago and remember it being excellent. Went there today and not only was the service quite poor & rude, but the quality of the food has really gone downhill too. Soggy chips, didn't put salt like I asked, etc. It was ok but nothing special. Just average.

Lonely Planet rates a place on North Isle of NZ as best fish & chips in the world.they clearly have not been to Sotos. I have been to both & believe me Sotos fish & chips are way better.whilst I have not been to every fish & chip shop in the world. I am sure Lonely Planet hasn't either. Sotos fish & chips have always been the best, still are.worth a trip across town (as we do) 4 a treat.u will not be disappointed.as a real treat have the locally caught shark.simply amazing flavour in the lightest, crispiest batter.nothing better & the side serve of chips is equally amazing.simply the best I have ever had.we are very lucky in Adelaide.

Absolutely LOVE their food, the staff are amazing.

Online order and 40 minute round trip to pick up food, only to get home and find the chips were missing, THE CHIPS! That's like forgetting the spaghetti in a pasta dish.
An online order but they would only provide a refund for the chips (and only the chips) if I came back into the store, safe to say that ruined the whole experience.
Food is OK but their system is pathetic, check you've got everything before leaving.

Been driving here from the northside for 12years. Last year the chips have been terrible. Today they were frozen ones and soggy. Potato cakes usually the saving grace, not today. Lost a devoted customer!

I had read a very good review so we gave this place a try. Very disappointing. The prawns were awful, not sure if they contained any prawn. The chips were soggy and undercooked in the middle. The fish was ok. Can cook much better than this at home.

Tried this place for the first time and I see why it's been around so long. The chips are delicious. It's hard to find the hand cut ones. Also tried their Grilled Flake and Coleslaw. Both are the best I've ever had from a F&C shop.

Excellent fish and chips but it is very popular so you may need to wait a while. To avoid the wait ring in your order. To the owners, when we order you give us a number and can I suggest you install outside, a digital readout showing when the order is ready as most times, we do not hear when the number is called out. It would certainly assist in getting rid of confusion.

Watched as one of the ladies cooking scratched her rear end and then sniffed her finger. All whilst handling food. Mind you it wasn't just through her pants, she had her entire hand down her underwear. Rather unfortunate.

Online order accepted for 6.15 pm. Sms confirmed pick up for 6.44pm. Arrive at sms time to find it was going to be another 40 mins. Don't bother on a hot day. Waste of time!

Place to be if you want covid.
So many people in the shop while a sign on the door clearly states Max 4 people in shop at any one time.
Some people were not even wearing masks putting the rest of us at risk.
