After a 30+ hour journey to Adelaide, it was the last bit of hold up I needed. The receptionist was nice but was unable to check me into my room and confirm if it was ready, I was waiting around for 20 mins, she served a different customer whilst I was still waiting. She looked on her system to confirm she can move something around and get me a Southern parkland facing room then confirmed with housekeeping, then confirmed it now wasn't possible. All I wanted was a cold shower and some rest so I could get out.

Only just a 3 star standard.
Rooms are tidy but tired. Room maintenance is obviously lacking; numerous instances of disrepair are readily identified.
Noise between rooms is quite apparent; therefore it is luck of the draw as to whether you may be disturbed by an adjacent noisy guest.
WiFi is very hit and miss, depending on room location.
It is in walking distance to the tram which seems to run every 10 to 15 minutes, and is free through the cbd, and paid trip to Glenelg.
Some restaurants and cafes are nearby, but offerings are better if you can travel just a little further.

Book online, not via phone. We stayed here with friends and booked at the same time - they booked online. Despite quoting the same at the time of booking they charged us $75 extra per night AND bumped us from the hotel to the adjacent motel

Nice location hotel. Hotel definitely needs renovating. Ceiling was mouldy. Bathtub was stained with black marks. Carpet wasn’t very clean. Checking in was really slow, only one member of staff working in reception. Breakfast was ok.

Mid

Previous guests left a fat skid mark in the toilet. The room was pretty outdated and didn't even include basic necessities like a microwave and stove top. There was also a little spider on one of the pillows.

Beds looked comfy otherwise, and the hotel served breakfast.

We stayed here as we were getting married over the weekend. We booked an executive king suite for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Check in wasn’t busy, but took some time. Also, parking is $5 per night staying - which wasn’t communicated at all during time of booking and isn’t stated on the website. The car park is also open to the public (who have to use a parking meter). There are maybe 20 odd parking bays - very difficult to park when you’ve paid to.

The room was clean and tidy and in generally good condition. We had two balconies. The glass sliding doors don’t lock, and have large gaps and are quite drafty. When closed, the curtains still blow around as though they are open. This also allows all the outside sound to come through.

We are in the restaurant on the Friday night. We also met with the rest of the bridal party and partners, so the week before we ensured we made a booking for 16 people. This was done over the phone 1 week prior. Our booking was for 6pm. We arrived to the restaurant/bar at 5: 30 to have a few drinks first. We noticed there were no tables set for our booking. We asked the staff - who had no record of the booking. The staff member then had to run around to set up a heap of tables, whilst also trying to man the bar. She was nice and pleasant. After a table was made ready for the group, we sat down. Another male staff member then started and came around to take our orders. He was also pleasant and helpful. We all ordered only mains, which took almost an hour and a half to come out. I believe there was only 1 person on in the kitchen - most likely getting slammed - as there were a handful of others in the restaurant. Obviously there are some major communication issues here, as there was no record of the booking plus issues with not having enough staff working. The two staff members who were there were doing their best, but you could tell they were frustrated.

Once the meals came out, they were tasty enough, but the serving sizes were a bit on the small side for the price of the meal.

Room service for breakfast wasn’t the best. It was cold (fully cooked ordered). And at $25 is a rip off. We ended up having McDonalds Ubered to the room for other breakfasts. Considering the closest McDonalds is a good 5-10 minute drive (with traffic) and is still warm when it’s arrived is a poor look for The Sage.

After our reception, we had booked a chauffeur to take us back to the hotel. We had a few items with us. When we arrived at the hotel, the driver asked the staff at the desk if we could have some assistance. This was about 11: 30pm. There were 3 staff members behind the counter. There were no other people in the foyer area. When the driver asked for assistance, they pointed to the trolley in the corner. The driver packed it for us, but we had to wheel it by the 3 staff members who just stood there watching us.

While it is a little cheaper than some of the higher end hotels, it’s probably priced a littler higher than what it should be. Next Hotels (owners) need to seriously invest a bit more in the place to bring it to what they have it listed as a “4 Star”. I’d say 3 stars, and that’s generous.

I’d only stay here again if I needed to stay in town and there was absolutely nothing left.

Also given that the same chain owns the Chifley two doors down, I probably wouldn’t stay there either.

Update: not sure why you’ve replied now? This review was done in 2019 - when it was The Sage. But thanks for the reply I guess

Non of the staff greeted us at the reception just got blank looks. No help was offered when asked to get our luggage upstairs, we were told that there is trolly in the corner can be used ‍️. Dusty rooms, untidy shower. Balcony was full of pigeon poo. What else can go wrong? Save your money and get better rooms for the same price somewhere else. Won’t be booking my stay here again.

We came for a short holiday in Adelaide and booked a 2-night stay, which cost us $480. First of all, the reception did have some sanitiser disposals, but no other levels in the building had any sanitiser. That wasn’t very covid safe.

There were very few parking spaces, especially considering how the building had over 100 suites, and only around 30 parking spots. We had a lot of trouble with parking our car over these few days.

The hotel suite was quite small, and everything was squished in, with a bathroom. It was sort of like a motel room. The only difference was that a motel room would have a microwave and a kitchen tap (The only tap we had at the Terrace hotel suite was the bathroom basin). I bet these were marketing techniques to force us to buy food from their restaurant (We could not eat most of their food due to religious reasons). Without any microwave or tap with drinkable water, we were forced to drink bottled water from the shops and eat cold, hard food.

The verandah was very dirty so we couldn’t go in it. The quality and size of this suite was smaller than what we expected. We also noticed a door at the end of our room. When we opened it, there was another door. Once we opened that door, we had access to the suite next to ours, which we didn’t book. We were really worried about the lack of privacy, and we had to call someone to come and lock it up.

Afterwards, we noticed that one of the blanket doonas had blood stains on it beforehand. We had to call somebody again to come and replace the doona.

The next day, we left for a trip and left that ‘Please refresh my room’ notice outside, on our door. When we came back, we noticed the sign was left inside, so the housekeeping people came and refreshed our room. That was some ‘refreshing’ they did. The bed sheets were undone and were not even properly tucked into the beds, the bathroom bin’s head was lying around and there was no liner inside, and the place wasn’t even vacuumed.

The next day, we went somewhere for a short trip early in the morning before we checked out. We did not put the ‘refresh’ tag outside but they still came in. Not only that, but they threw all of our stuff in the bin. Thank goodness we put most of our things in our car. They threw away EVERYTHING that was left remaining in our room: shoes, clothes, food and drinks which we were forced to buy from shops outside, a kettle, an iPhone charger, and other things. But what hurt us the most was that they threw them away with the disgusting garbage, and they dumped out all of the water bottles which we had and needed for our long trip back home.

They also threw out our youngest one’s
favourite clothes, and she started crying.

The housekeeping staff were very bad and failed to properly clean our room.

It was an absolutely abhorring experience, the
worst I have ever seen in an Australian hotel. Our hotel suite had a lot of issues and we had to keep on calling a hotel worker to come and fix the issues, but this last one was absolutely unacceptable. I don’t even know how it is possible for a hotel like this to be rated a 4-star hotel. If you plan on going on a holiday in Adelaide and you want to stay in a hotel, I suggest you think twice about where you want to stay.

Great location. Room servicing was fine. We had a room adjoining another and the internal door was not locked. We went for cocktail hour and it was pretty poor. Very limited options. Well just one option Bacardi cocktail lol. Location is damn good. Free tram service into centre only 400 to 600 metres away.
Good laundry if you need to clean your clothes. Friendly reception staff. And takeaways deliver.

My mother and I stayed here and unfortunately it wasn't the greatest stay that we checked out early. The foyer area was nice and updated and check in was quick and easy. We stayed on the first floor and unfortunately the room was outdated and needs some work done, the view on the balcony was a green fence and wasn't very clean, and didn't feel nice when being outside. The beds were somewhat comfortable however the sheets and quilts had some stains on them, the bathroom was clean however one of the doors for the cupboard was held by blutack. When coming back from dinner we went to the restaurant to get a coffee however it took 15 minutes to be served as it seemed the serving staff were more busy with the customers.
