Maxwell Wines reviews
73Delicious, innovative food, exceptional wine, fantastic friendly and knowledgeable staff. What an incredible experience I can highly recommend Maxwell's.
10/10 degustation experience. Courses were fun, delicious, meticulous. Great service. Mead tasting was accompanied by unannounced infortmative chat with Maxwell himself
This restaurant is outstanding.
We booked online & we able to book a health based special dietary requirement.
We then received an email stating how they could & would accommodate my needs.
That was very impressive before we got to the restaurant.
We had a 10 course dégustation menu & it was fabulous. Each course was sublime with so many textures & amazing tastes.
Service was exceptional & the setting was good too.
I highly recommend Maxwell's & will definitely be going again.
Simply stunning – wines, location, experience!
The best winery in South Australia and not to be missed on a visit to McLaren Vale. The wines were amazing – my favourites were (1) 2021 Barrel Fermented Verdelho which had the most incredible passionfruit nose and (2) 2021 FRESCA Grenache which was sensational. My husbands favourites were (1) Sparkling Mead which tasted like a ginger beer without the sugar hit (2) Honey Mead which would be the perfect affogato accompaniment (no need for Frangelico). All the wines were just so good – and we joined the Club giving us access to some of the great exclusives. We were so spoilt with the most outstanding tasting experience led by Mark, yes the winemaker himself.
And there is so much to do at Maxwell’s – a lime cave tour (omg, the perfect spot for a romantic lunch or dinner), picnic, visit to the maze, helicopter tour AND the most indulgent degustation lunch. Superb in every way. And so connected to the limestone coast.
An exceptional fine dining experience from beginning to end. Hats off to the chefs for taste, quality ingredients and specifically the presentation.
We also opted for the wine pairing with our degustation. The wine pairings went well with our meals, however we would’ve loved to learn more about the history and tasting notes.
Unfortunately due to restrictions being implemented the night before our visit and not to cancel guests bookings, all seatings were reduced to 2 hours with a reduced menu.
As a result, we were more tipsy than full by the end of the meal but understandably, Maxwell did what they could given the circumstances.
We definitely are keen to go back for the full experience.
Lovely spot, nice modern decor, great service and friendly and professional staff. You can not ask for a better combinations if good stuff. We were there for wine tasting and it was a great experience. Looking forward to try the food at the restaurant for the next time.
We had such a great experience at Maxwell wines! The decor was beautiful and the service was amazing, the level of knowledge we were given during the tasting was the best we’d had during our whole trip in SA! Not to mention how delicious the wines were; would highly recommend the GSM and honey mead. Will definitely be coming back next time we are in the area!
To ask customers to show their papers is condescending and cruel. This discrimination has to end.
Sophie was wonderful, talking us through the wines & mead and describing the ecology and geology of the Maxwell vineyards (including finding out for us the soil content of their Kangaroo Island vineyards). The paired canapés were lovely and location beautiful.
This was total professionalism from the moment we walked in the door. Fantastic atmosphere and gorgeous views. The staff were amazing all afternoon. Delicious food and definitely do the wine pairings - generous pours. Staff explain everything well. Great afternoon.
Beautiful ambiance, unfortunately restaurant was closed due to public holiday but premium wine tasting with canopies was cracker. Chardony, Cab Sav, Shiraz, Grenache all were so good. My favourite was Shiraz and Chardi. Mead tasting was awesome too.big shout out to Heidi, stories behind wine making, brand name and mead making was so informative and engaging. Loved Viking Logo on Mead bottles and can. Highly recommend this place.
Beautiful space, welcoming, friendly, and gorgeous wines. The host was friendly and knowledgeable. Will visit again.
Fantastic place. The staff (Sean and Tript) were incredibly knowledgeable, not just on the wine made at Maxwell, but also of the history of grape varieties, the local history and the processing of the wines to give heaps of context on what you are drinking. For me that made this the best celler door experience in McLaren Vale.
The winery is a beautiful building with great views. They are setting up a new restaurant in the limestone caves under the building which is still 3 months away, a really pity to miss that on this trip but reccomend that anyone coming in June 2022 look it up. There is also a maze on-site which adds a bit of fun.
Came for a wine tasting session and was blown away by the service from Heidi. She was very knowledgeable on the different wines offered and was lovely to chat to. As tourists from Victoria she also gave us some travelling tips for our stay while in SA. Definately recommend visiting if you're in Mclaren Vale
We did the wine tasting and canapes for our daughter's birthday. What an amazing place! The staff were absolutely lovely and couldn't be more helpful, very knowledgeable also. Stunning views and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Very degrading welcome.it was obvious that we were not fitting the "high class" that they are trying to pursue. So much cozy nice vibes in the McLaren area, don't go here
Great dining experience for my birthday in November. Nice view over the vineyard brilliant food with special dishes, all very well presented and great favour. We also had a wine tasting before our lunch. Friendly staff, reasonable price for the quality of tasting menu, definitely recommended for special occasion!
Nice wine good staff
Still needed to QR check after the SA gov removed that requirement and had to show vaccination proof which is disgusting. If i knew before hand I would have gone elsewere.
Maxwell wines is clearly suffering from Stockholm syndrome from SA gov.
Great range of wines and the canape tasting pairing was fantastic. The staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
Maxwell wines has always been one of my all time favourite wineries is McLaren Vale, however since they’ve started advocating experimental gene therapy, I’m sadly going to have to enjoy the memories. All the best crew, best off luck x
