Kingdom / Star House Chinese Restaurant reviews
83Service was good but if you know your dim sums it's not the greatest you've tasted. Some dishes were bad. Some OK, some up to standard. More for tourists. Expect an average of $12 per dish.
I suggest everyone not to go. We were the first to arrive, and everyone else had finished eating before we were served. It was a very bad experience!
The staff is not nice for getting order. He looks like angry and he wants to kill customers. He did not explain the detailed the food for customers to understand the foods
I got TOTALY rip-off a 1.8 kL lobster I got charged $440 outrageous that’s not the market price it’s 2 times over they have to make money but not rip off there customers
NEVER GO THERE AGAIN
Happy to recommend this restaurant as they have genuine great Cantonese cooking matched with equally fantastic services. The portion were huge even to our standard. Expertly cooked and prepared.
We came back for Yum Cha the following day but unfortunately the food was a little let down in comparison with Ding Hoa around the corner.
We shared a few yum cha dishes, I do wish they had more yum cha on their dinner menu though. We also had a few mains. Everything was amazing, fresh and came out quick!
Amazing Chinese restraint, zippy, attentive staff, amazing range on menu, live seafood to pick from, not cheap but world class.
Apologies for being fairly late to making this review but my experience of this restaurant has not left my mind from over a year ago.
Despite our booking we still had to wait at least 10 minutes for a spot in the restaurant. While waiting we saw people who came after us get a seat first, we asked a waiter about it but they started accusing us of being hasty.
As for the food, it is average, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t particularly good. My main criticism is the fly that buried in the dumpling. As an apology they offered me a voucher (to use another time) and $10 off for my meal, although all I wanted was a verbal apology because because I won’t be using the voucher.
Don’t be too swayed by my review as it is fairly outdated. Furthermore, I visited here during a public holiday (which I will applaud them for), though I don’t think they should open during a public holiday if they cannot handle too many customers. For these reasons this restaurant receives 2 stars.
Since 2019, my family and I come to this restaurant once in a while (every couple of months) for Yum-Cha on a Sunday Morning. However, as we have gradually come to this place, the prices have rapidly increased, which is fair as the cost of living (inflation) has caused the price of food to go up, however, the downside is that this restaurant's menu food items have gone down in terms of flavour and texture. While the price of the items has gone up, the deliciousness of the food items at the restaurant just slowly went bad. I'll state an example. The egg steamed custard buns used to be my favourite thing on the menu. However, when it came to my table, it was cold, and didn't have that flowy liquid that came out when you took your first bite! Additionally, to add, the XO Radish dish which was served to us was double the price, and the serving size was halved from the previous time I visited, I feel like this is not really the way to go because when you increase the price of an item, I expect you to somewhat either keep the same serving size, or make it a bit bigger. Side note! Back in early 2020, the most expensive 'SUP' item was $9.50, now it is $16.80! Literally almost double the price! Would not come here! My recommendations are either Empress near Glenside, or Ding Hao just around the back of Starhouse!
Had lunch there on Friday 30/12. Had to ask 3 times for a la carte menus before we received them. Waitress poured the wine and spilled half of it on the table, she didn't offer to clean up the mess made, she just said sorry and walked off. Food was good except for the pork ribs and garlic, they were dry as the Simpson desert. When I was in the toilet I noticed one of the chefs didn't use soap to wash his hands after doing his business. It's a no from me.
The food is good. However, service is really bad. Front staff is not friendly, no basic greetings or communication and no smiling at all. We know they are busy but we think this restaurant is well known and has good reputation. So we didn’t expect we could receive such low quality of service.
Decent hot pot.
But i preferred "the hotpot guy 9"
It wasn't as flavourful here as hotpot guy
Just my honest opinion
Been coming to this place for more than 15 years. Not happy with service at all
My disabled dad needed a table and took 35 mins to wait
When we ordered yum cha I requested for soy sauce 6 times with 6 different staff > not even 1 gave me anything I asked for
The prices went so high > can ok coke $5.50? R u serious? They need more staff who can speak English
Was a busy Saturday night when we came here… the lobster with egg noodles was very nice, the lobster may have been a little old as the meat was a little tough and chewy. The pepper steak had excellent flavour and seasoning, but the steak itself had a lot of bones then what I’d expect. But still a great meal and would recommend.
Parking around the area is a bit of a pain however, found street parking 2 blocks away.
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Adelaide, hands down! They are a little pricier than other restaurants on Gouger but Star House are so consistently good that I think it's justified. The radish cakes in XO and cucumber salad are a must order every time. The staff are blunt but incredibly efficient so I don't mind it!
Food is very good. Service is reasonable quick. Only minor complaint was to receive nice hot egg tarts for desert as the first dish.
Great yum cha and thank you to the staff. Very attentive I had 4 dishes from mushroom prawns pork buns and steamed prawns and radish cake. All great
The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff were also friendly and helpful which was a bonus.
Very very bad customer service.one of the staff.we ask something instead of answer in polite.he was very rude yelling on you.lots of customers not happy.
But - small criticism for our Sunday night meal we enjoyed recently. No-one comes past to see if we need anything during the meal. Not just us but no tables were visited by staff.
