Impeccable service, the staff are friendly happy to help. The cafe itself reminds me of a well kept school cafeteria, clean & neat with tables & chairs. They don't serve alcohol. The food is I'm told authentic Chinese done really well and our friends loved it. The serves are large and presented well. The flavours are there but are undeveloped. For me the food lacked in taste, texture and balance. But for all those there, it appeared that for the price and size of meal, it's definately a must try.

The combination fried rice wasn't good it had boiled rice and crab sticks in it and a few odd bits. This was not fried, maybe tossed in a wok once. I know about chinese cooking because I worked in a chinese restaurant for years and was very close to the Chinese owner and his family, and had a chinese boyfriend. We've been here many times before and some things are ok but they rush people through.

Average Chinese food which is highly Westernized.
Not recommended given there are many more options around.

I have been dining at the Chinatown Cafe for over 20 years and in that time the excellent quality and flavours of the Malaysian style menu have only improved.
Fast efficient service and legendary food at a very reasonable prices.

Tried it for one time on their hainanese chicken rice and that’s it. It’s not really that bad but certainly I won’t be paying for that again, hence wouldn’t be eating it if it’s free too.
It might be tasty for the local but for someone who was born and raise in south east Asia and eating hainanese chicken rice for lunch and dinner for years and years, this is certainly not the proper way to cook. Also, the rice is absolutely unacceptable.

I've been coming here for years. Although the price of the hainess chicken and rice has gone from 10$ to now 16$ over the years it's still very delicious. I've sampled other dishes from this venue and they are ok, not amazing but not terrible. The main reason you would come here is for the hainese chicken and rice with the asien greens and spicy broth. It tastes amazing and always fills me up.

Always a favourite, best Laksa in Adelaide, been going for years, I think that says it all.
Update October 2022, still the best laksa and the onsite chilli products to have with the laksa are exemplary

We shared a Laksa and it was probably one of the best ones we’ve had. Absolutely delicious and super quick to come out.

Horrible rude and disgusting service. Was treated like a scumbag the second I called to ask if a table was available.

The Hainanese Chicken Rice (with laksa broth) at Chinatown Cafe is by far the best in Adelaide. At $16.50 it's quite pricey for a casual lunch - but still worth it.

The Hainanese Chicken with Laksa broth and Asian Greens is a staple in our family. The very best we have found in Adelaide. We have been eating here for decades. The women who runs the restaurant is lovely, it is simple but delicious food served with a smile. Perfect for a Friday night take-away or Saturday lunch.

Amazing Laksa it’s the best in Adelaide IMO, and their Curry Chicken and Rice is unique and delicious. In fact most of their dishes are great, with efficient and fast service. Love this place…

Ordered some fried buns and it took them more than 40 minutes to cook them. I didn't end up getting them because they took too long and I left.

The most amazing thing about this place is how they can so rapidly serve great food to so many c customers every day. Helen and the team have been doing this for years and have perfected their craft. My biggest problem is always deciding between the Fried Kway Teow, Seafood Laksa, Chicken Rice or Dumplings.all wonderful dishes consistently cooked well and served up with your favourite side of chilli or ginger chilli sauce.

I'm so glad to see this old haunt is still around. I always find it a great place to eat and value for money. Clean, at tentative and friendly. Excellent prices.
