We booked a table for lunch, a group of 16 people. I arrived a few minutes early, went to the bar and asked for a pint of my favourite beer. The young bartender told me he didn't know if they had that beer. An older bartender came over to help and informed us both that they do not have that beer any more. I then asked the younger guy if he had a similar beer on tap (an Irish red ale). Once again, the young bartender had no idea. I expect bartenders to know what beers are available and what is the difference between different kinds of beer.
Then I sat down with my group and we all ordered at the same time via a phone app (no orders taken at the table). Over the next two and a half hours the meals were delivered one by one. One of our group had to leave without receiving a meal as she had another appointment. Some of the steaks were cold when they arrived. Half of us had finished eating while half were still waiting for food. I ordered steak but was not given a steak knife.
Empty plates were not cleared from the table.
The toilets were not very clean and looked generally run down with cracked tiles, wet floors, dirty walls etc.
Prices were high for basic pub food.

It's ok no wiping down of tables when we organised to go here. Ask staff and they just looked me up and down. If Cov 19 wasn't a problem still no excuse. Hey people please don't give any excuse or don't care because W. A is safe because its the little things we do that stop the big things. If business continue this way in W. A.we are going to have a problem.

Been going to this pub for over 20 years but lately experience very disappointing food and service. Do not order a steak sandwich here. Total rip-off costs $26 for basically rubbish. After ordering and paying we were told the kitchen was closed in the middle of a Thursday afternoon! The young staff member then apologised and gave me my money back but then said he made a mistake it was open after all …so took my money back again. When it arrived 5 minutes later I couldn’t believe what I was served - totally unappetising, basically inedible rubbish. Wish I asked for my money back!

We really enjoyed the drive from Armidale via Canning Mills Road however I was very disappointed with my steak sandwich my partner had the Gnocci and said it was 4 stars.
We will definitely go to Kalamunda again but will have to find somewhere else to have lunch.

Bit crowded but is ok. Food IS GOOD at reasonably priced. I think the service was a bit bland. Some added attention to customer needs would be a appreciated.

Surrounding is pleasant and next door to Coles is convenient.

We enjoyed lunch here. Barman was very helpful and our vegan soup was delicious. The pub is beautifully renovated and cosy on a cold day.

Ordered a shepherds pie meal today, it read on menu: lamb cooked in guinness with mash potato, carrots and peas $24.
Our meals came separate by about 15mins.and my shepherds pie barely had a single layer of mince stuff with a couple of frozen carrot cubes hats not a pea in sight. 2ins of mash with a sprinkle of cheese.awful

Have been going to Kalamunda Pub for years, lived in Kala for over 50 years.
When last visited 15 June all was great and friends enjoyed the lunch and venue. Visited today 9 July 2021, menus changed, prices changed and food was very average and less that before. Friends and I will not be coming back. Think new management is not working well. Can I give zero stars? Apparently not!

We drove here today to find out there are no more vegan meals other than a salad or chips, the menu has changed only to exclude people who care for the environment and animals. The photos are from previous visits when we could enjoy good inclusive food. Sad.

Great pub and catered well to the kids to. There was 6 of us and everyone's meal was great. I personally haven't had a good steak cooked right in a long while.

Ate the steak here and it tasted nice. However I had to wait for an hour for the steak as they lost my docket apparently and when I asked, they asked me to show proof of purchase.

We come here 1-2x/ month. We love the service and the atmosphere. We were surprised to find a new menu tonight. We definitely liked the old menu better. There is only one hot vegetarian main? Please bring back more choices for vegetarians (veggie burger/ veggie parma) and my husband wants his Paddy burger and the salmon back on the menu please! We had the quinoa salad (huge) and very nice and steak sandwich (good but skimpy on the chips).

I have been going to this hotel for 18 months for lunch during the week with family and friends.
Being a senior l always chose the barramundi grilled with chips and a delicious salad. The meal was always delicious.
Went there last week with friends and the prices have all risen and the food was terrible. No more grilled Barra or salad with it.
The red emperor was so old and rubbery it couldn’t be eaten and it had a horrible fishy after taste, not fresh. The slaw, pickled onions and mushy peas were not tasty like the salad they used to serve. The chips were fine. I used to tell everyone to go there for lunch. Not any more. We won’t be going back, only if they bring the Barra and salad back. I took the fish home for the dog but even he rejected it. This hotel was my favourite place for lunch.

Food was good tonight, glad its getting better (Jan 2021)

July 2021, Decided to give it another go with a few mates for 20 buck steaks.

Well I gotta say, still disappointed, don't know why they asked how we wanted them cooked because they all come out well done ‍️
Chips were dismal and who the hell eats "SLAW". Anyway the Kalamunda used to be awesome for cheap steak night all year round but it seems to be struggling now. Such a shame because it's only about the food (20 buck steaks) because the staff are awesome and the atmosphere is great.

Lovely old building, serving great meals. It was Saturday lunch, and the staff were rushed off their feet, so requests for water got missed. They did separate bills for our group.

My daughter and I came for lunch today for the first time and travelled all the way from Mindarie to visit the Kalamunda Hotel. I ordered red emperor fish at $27 and asked if I could have it with salad instead of mushy peas and was told no, even though they have salad on their menu. This should have been a very easy request and has never been a problem anywhere else I’ve dined. The guy who served me was not at all friendly or helpful. Then when my meal arrived there was a tiny portion of burnt, dried out fish, and a few chips. The fish was inedible, burnt and dried out and impossible to cut. I really wish I had taken a photo to post here, but didn’t think of it at the time. Terrible food and service. We will definitely not be back and were very disappointed with the food and the service. Would not recommend to anyone.

My husband and I had lunch at the Kalamunda Hotel today. I ordered the Red emperor Fish and chips and my husband ordered the steak sandwich. We totally understand that it was very busy and there was a 45 minute wait. However when our food arrived. My husbands steaksandwich and chips was so cold he could eat it, my fish and chips well the fish was nice and freshly cooked mushy peas and chip cold. What seriously is not good was the person who took my husbands plate away when I had barely started mine with obviously something wrong with the food and he took it and didn't even ask if there was something wrong. I will not be going back a waste of our money

Can't literally complain of everything.everything that an aussie hills pub and hotel should have.great friendly staff.good quality food.fairly priced and good drinks.great atmosphere.just wish they would have another screen outside for when the fights and footy is on.lots of poles in the way for people who don't wanna be crammed inside.
