CURRY VIRUNDHU reviews
61 The place for an authentic South Indian experience in Perth!
I loved the ambience, flavours and staff. The smell of the incense and spices wafting from the kitchen took me right back home!
Authentic Southern Indian/ Tamil/ Malayali style Sunday Lunch, served on Banana leaves.
Taste is acceptable by Perth standard, do not expect too high as what you would find in Singapore or Malaysia, let alone in Chennai or Kochi.
Had quite delicious fried fish with mediocre chicken Kari.
Service was beyond excellent though, very friendly and helpful.
Still quite expensive at $35 pp.
Wonderful place for Tamilnadu food and South Indian food. Tasty mutton curry, chicken curry, sambar, Rasam, buttermilk etc. Very nice hospitality by vinayak, Gopal and other crew members. Nice outdoor location with nostalgia songs. After a long time I had unnda mayakkam.
Horrible Christmas lunch with poor food and service for $35pp! Wish I could give you zero star.
The ‘ Christmas lunch ‘ included pickle, 1 burnt and dry chicken leg piece, 2 spoons of Biryani, 1 frozen paratha and 3 pieces of bait fish the size of my little finger, The man serving the gravy for the Paratha was. Desperately filtering the gravy so that no meat is served to people by mistake! Possibly to save money.
No one comes out to eat because they don’t have food at home - it’s for relaxing and we pay to be served.
There is no excuse for the rip off.
You spoil the name of Indian restaurants by providing service like this. As we watched the other dinners- everyone was shaking their heads, so it was just not us upset about wasting the day.
I am sure that you made some money that day but you lost a whole bunch of customers.
Very upset and disappointed in your restaurant, food and the service. Never again.
Well I have given a cracking review on their food and it stay as it is. We loved the food and ambience here so thought should bring our friends circle.
Friday night we rocked up at 645 orderded at 7 and all food ordered came in parts by 930pm. Kids were there and it was getting difficult with the wait.
The concept of time is unknown to this place and this is the second visit same happened on the first but hey we should give a chance so took ours and it was a flop.
Biriyani, Quail fry and mutton Chukka was absolutly yummy. Kothu was average and the kizhi was bad.kizhi was last dish that rocked up at 930 it was was smoked and felt like someone had put a cigar in kizhi.
So after the long haul we said yup take away would be the best.and I rocked up to pay the bill 945pm and met a friend at the counter who was waiting for this takeaway ordered at 7pm. Well I was shattered.
We love the place cause it was an amazing home charm. Mutton Chukka and the Quail fry is a must try but I doubt i will come back nor recommend people cause the team really needs to up their game or probably get the Marvels Time stone! (oki Marvel nerd)
Food was out of the world! Freshly prepared and the service was great! They are keeping it very close to authentic south Indian/ Sri Lankan food
I give this place 10 STARS
Wow! This is by far the BEST oriental food I have ever eaten (bar NONE). The flavours are divine. Forget all other Indian/oriental restaurants. Give this place a try. You wont be disappointed. Eveything is made fresh from base ingredients.
We were a party of four and had the Mutton Kothu, Chicken Biryani, Crab Curry, and Faratha.
Not only is the food a true culinary feast, but the owners Abi and LeelaKrishna (chef) are so warm and welcoming. We felt like we were with old friends. Despite being busy with all the cooking, LeelaKrishna seemed to have time to personally attend to each and every table.
I am a genuine, independent customer and have no affiliation with this restaurant or its owners.
Very tasty and authentic. Very much enjoyed the Goat Biriyani and pepper chicken. The black Halwa was yum. After a long time enjoyed such a lovely south Indian taste. Highly recommended. Visited the Bassendean branch.
Something different in Perth. Loved it! Brings back memories from back home. The people running the place made it even more special. 10/10 must try if you want to try a different spectrum of Indian cuisine.
Amazing service and food! Thank you team Curry Virundhu! Mutton sukka was off the charts! Amazing outdoor area and ambience!
Went for breakfast Saturday morning 9 am.
Was advised chef hasn't come yet. Highly unprofessional
Please dont advertise you are open for breakfast from 8 am Saturday when you cannot even run the operations and be there to cook
Highly disappointed this afternoon, the meals they have provided to us. Paid $70.00 for 2 meals, hardly had meats in it, but service was good, not worth for the money.
A family run restaurant serving authentic south Indian food. Some food taste like a kind of fusion of Tamil and Kerala cuisine.we just loved the food and kind owners.will go back again
The food was just soo finger lickin good! Really felt like I was at a hotel back home. Biriyani, chicken chukka and kothu is a must try! Keep up the good taste!
I found this little gem of a food place tonight and ordered some take away, arguably one of the best authentic south Indian food I had for a long time. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food (top notch). Chef who works there has loads of experience in the industry and really passionate about his cooking. He puts lots of personal touch into his food. If you after authentic south Indian food place give it a try, Thanks Machan
Absolute lovely. We ordered parotta and kothu patotta it was amazing. It was a lovely experience and is kid friendly as well. They specialise in curry and the curry is served at a very high standard.
First class food.
Authentic taste of Tamilnadu.
Kids too enjoyed all.
Kind supplier and efficient cook.
Keep it up guys.
Excellent food. A good variety. Nice and friendly service. An unforgettable taste of our culture.
If you want authentic and I mean authentic south Indian food then this is where you should park yourself yet go on a mental trip to the small towns and villages of Tamil Nadu. The chef moved to Waga Waga at a tender age of 12 and after completing high school he took up cookery courses. He says his grandfather who ran an army canteen was the inspiration for that choice. After reaching a point in his career where he felt he could go no further, he decided to move back to Tamil Nadu to learn 'home food' cooking instead. I was delighted to learn that every dish has a back story. For example his tomato chutney was inspired by a village street stall run by a woman that everyone use to call Silk (after the famed Tamil actress Silk Smita). Her chutney was unique to their area, hence it's called Silk Chutney, I could literally visualise young and old thronging the stall to get a glimpse of Silk and yes it was delicious! Combined with his superb fish (baby red snapper) gravy and home styled dosas, it sure hit a home run for me. It was a great culinary trip. The only thing missing was a hot cup of chai or kauphy. My dosa with the fish was $15.00. Thank you Leela Krishnan aka Adrian Bash for this wonderful insight to your home state.

Curry Virundhu is a very small corner shop located at 47 Carden Drive, Cannington.
Opposite the Cannington Police Station.
Authentic south Indian food. I found it very pricy for the portion size. I didn't enjoy eating on a disposable plate when I dined in. Good service.
