There is No children’s menu.

Chef offers a plate of pasta and red sauce, no alternative.

Waitress advises kids would normally order off the main menu and share.

Boutique plates up to $44 for food is hardly suitable for children.

My children have dined in Sydney, Melbourne, Paris, London and many other fine dining restaurants and I have never been told there is No menu for them.

Guess I will have to wait until they are adults.

A girlfriend and I came here on a bit of a whim after a beautiful morning at Bodhi after seeing the amazing reviews here.

We were sat down immediately but a lovely waitress. We ordered a rose each (delicious, check), and food to share.
To eat we got the wood fired bread which seemed to be straight out of the fire. It was warm and so delicious.
The confit tomatoes. Get out of here, delicious.
The roast capsicum and we think tahini (?) dip, we were expecting something different but the roast capsicum wasn’t puréed, it was pieces in this delicious olive oil sauce.
Pumpkin salad with pomegranate seeds and this delicious yoghurt sauce.

We were NOT expecting our lunch to be this amazing. Honestly, the food here is top notch and I will be recommending this place to anyone who makes their way down south until the day I die.

Oh, we also had dessert, Feijoa, finger-lime, white chocolate and coconut cream like whipped into some sort of amazing mousse. Get out of here.

They could call it ‘Chic’ but don’t, they call it ‘Barnyard1978’: we did not care because it is still chic. They say it is ‘contemporary, casual dining’; we say it is chic whatever it is they are doing whether serving breakfast lunch or an elegant dinner.
‘Barnyard1978’, a solitary restaurant set in a field of their vines. You don’t find a cellar door - it is within their restaurant - their wines, along with curated guest wines, are a complement to their food. Just an impression but it has, in my mind, an attitude that infers wine is important, of course; but it is not paramount. That the meal is first chosen, with wine then selected to best suit - to achieve a marriage that brings out the best of both; where the restaurant is intended as a theatre for a culinary performance involving produce-with-provenance: for both food and drink without pretence.
In that manner: predominate in a corner of the vineyard, solitary, stands bespoke Barnyard1977; making the restaurant the ‘all’ of it. It has an architectural flair that gives you designer-delight from views inside and out. Where the best of chefs create for you the best that can be crafted from the best of predominantly local-provenance. Where the culinary experience is designed to be first and foremost the meal, where they work hard to make it the best presentation that they can of occasion, place, and multi-sensory taste, in an ambience as tasteful as they can create while making it seem effortless.
Barnyard1978 is to me a statement of that ethos. As if to further make the point, their unique, equally chic chalets are set a short walk away: set naturally in the vineyard as close to nature as cosmopolitan living can be.
For whatever reason, and all of these, I hope that you also discover Barnyard1978, so you decide for yourselves. What do I know? Nothing, except that I like Barnyard1978 - a lot. Or, at the least, I think you should look at their designer restaurant, and their contemporary Hives’, and taste their honey. And, of course, enjoy their wine.

We were so happy to stop by here for lunch last weekend. The staff were friendly, food was delicious and beautifully presented! Highly recommend the smoked kangaroo for entree, and the crispy snapper for main! Amazing!

A lovely laid back setting and amazing menu. Always a good stop for food, or even just a casual coffee.

My friends and I enjoyed the most wonderful lunch at Barnyard last week. The food, service and atmosphere was the best. I had the pasta with prawns, and hands down, it was the best I’ve ever eaten. The sauce had amazing depth of flavour, the pasta cooked perfectly and the prawns just made the dish pop.

Our party of 5 thought the food was so fresh and tasty. The only thing was there weren’t enough pasta options for the lunch menu. This was what we were looking forward to. The wine was yummy too. The only other thing I think could have been a little better was the speed of the food coming out. It took too long. But this place is gorgeous and the staff are very friendly we would recommend.

Update: went for early lunch 2Jan23 - 3 years since last visit. It was fantastic! Service and food all top notch!

We arrived for a very early breakfast without a reservation. Food was excellent, as was the coffee. The service is ok. Would have been 5 star rating, but service not quite there. All of the tables we would have preferred to sit at were reserved (no one arrived to use them while we were there) so we ended up in a thoroughfare with staff regularly brushing past. Would go back, but next time would make a reservation for a better table.

Having driven past Barnyard 1978 many times we finally visited for lunch. The restaurant exceeded all expectations. The aesthetic is cool and casual - nestled in nicely to the vineyards. Sitting inside or out on the deck are both great options. The service was pleasant, attentive but not overbearing. The food was amazing. We shared a selection of the entrees - highlights were the pork terrine board and the beetroot cappelletti. We each had a main - the pink snapper was delicious and perfectly cooked, the homemade spinach spaghetti with prawns had the well balanced flavour combination and the lamb melted in your mouth. Coupled with a short but tasty drinks menu the whole experience was a treat. Definitely on our repeat list for the next trip.

Limited menu however the food was really tasty and looked great. The staff at the restaurant were all friendly and you could purchase different types of honey made at the Barnyard.

We only came here for the wine tasting. The chefs in the restaurant looks like they are cooking up a storm. We enjoyed some red wine with a nice female waitress (from Lithuania), she was very polite, friendly and communicated well
Definitely coming back here for a wine tasting - $5/person

They also sell honey but unfortunately no tastings

It Wasn’t the best experience for the price Six people, , the menu wasn’t as we had viewed online, the food is overpriced and while some meals were reasonable, a couple were below acceptable and hardly touched.
The service was average,
Over all pretty underwhelming.

Went with two other friends for a lazy Sunday lunch. Food and services was superb. Small dishes to share worked well. The quality and balance of each dish was really well executed. The really amazing thing was that we were there well after everyone else had gone and there was zero pressure from the staff to leave. That in of itself is worth the visit. Cannot recommend highly enough.

One of our favourite spots that always deliver on quality of food, wine and service.
Seasonal produce menus, known for their beautiful homemade pasta (with on site hen friends providing fresh eggs). Understandably more limited menu in these trying covid times, but oh wow the food was delicious.
Great dining experience. Very accomodating helping us to decide which lovely wines and beers to accompany our meals. Cheese and dessert option to finish with homemade cakes and slices available for more variety.

The restaurant is in a nice environment but Very limited options in the menu and not much in GF section either. So we just ordered an entree, bit pricy. So I mentioned about the limited choice in the menu to the manager and was told that pub is a better option for us. Mmmmm.

Outstanding local gem with great food, wonderful owner and staff. Always an outright pleasure. Pity they can’t choose their guests
