Amazing rooms, lovely down to earth staff, cool underground bar (Curious) and delicious food! The W Melbourne is a great getaway which makes you feel like you’ve travelled halfway across the world.

Willing to give them some leeway given they probably still have training wheels on having recently opened, but this was definitely not a slick hotel experience. The ingredients are there, but the staff competence is lacking.

The Pool area is ok but leaves a lot to be desired for. The pool side furniture is very uncomfortable to sit in, the pool is small and the air ventilation is terrible where it feels very warm & humid and smell of chlorine is pretty overwhelming. Thank god for the outdoor area to get some fresh air! Please fix this!

We stay with W Hotel Melbourne at the end of Feb weekend for just one night. Because previously we visited W Hotel Brisbane and it was terrific. W Hotel is such a quirky, unique hotel that there's no other hotel brand like W.however, our experience with W Hotel Melbourne was, unfortunately, underwhelming and disappointing.

Although you will check-in from your app with Marriott App and received the room key via the app, the app key was too unreliable, and I can't guarantee it work on the spot. Because of the building's design, there's barely anywhere to wait and check-in with hotel staff, the hotel lobby was tiny, and there's no space for standing or waiting while checking in, which is a primary concern for social distancing.

The room is excellent. However, once you start using the shower and sleeping in the room, you will begin to realise what a rush job the room and hotel is. The room is too dark or too bright; there's no middle ground of the light and no nightlight button to allocate where the bathroom light is during the dark. The A/C is making this scrapping noise which we have to wake up around 3 am to switch the A/C fan (consider is a new place. It felt like the A/C has been up and running for ten years).

The shower is a significant concern as the drain replacement is odd, and the shower design does not have enough slope for the water flow into the drain. The drain is blocked and too small because the shower does not have a door. Therefore, we almost flooded the whole bathroom. The bathtub was so small that you could barely rotate or fit into the tub.
I am so passionate about the W Hotel Melbourne's potential, but it was a let-down, and the booking price does not reflect their reputation compared to their W Hotel in Brisbane or around the world.

I don't think there's much W Hotel can do in terms of the design's total overall because it feels like W Hotel won the Collin's Arch pitch. They just put them into the "Hotel Side" of the building, slap their name on it, and a lot of W Singtuare design has been compromised due to the building's restriction.

Overall, my friends and I all think that the hotel was rush for completion. A lot of small detail overlooked and cut-back. Maybe we are too picky, but I am sure if we feel this way, we are not alone in this.

Love this place! Amazing experience from arrival to check out. Great staff, everyone is super friendly and organised, checked in without having to wait and they even managed to get us into Curious Bar when it was booked out. Had a little gift and card waiting for my birthday which was beautiful. Great room, quiet, fantastic facilities. Just super enjoyable from beginning to end. Can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely incredible experience. Upon arriving we had the most helpful member of staff help check us in. She was friendly, funny, informative - and later went on to take our photo outside the famous W sign with no hesitation at all. Our room was stunning, we stayed in a fantastic suite which had everything thought out, was quiet and immediately made you feel like you were on holiday (we were on a staycation and feeling like we could relax was important). We went to the pool area which again was beautiful, the staff were helpful and when I had a drink brought over the waiter immediately informed me other people found it too strong and asked if I would like more juice, so he had already looked ahead and provided a solution rather than me left feeling disappointed. We didn't have a reservation but Curious bar was was happy to have us and even the doorman was super friendly. I can't recommend this hotel enough. The low star reviews are to be taken with a pinch of salt - these reviews were left when the hotel was less than 2 weeks old and every company has teething problems. We had a few errors on our final bill where they hadn't recorded things correctly but a simple conversation sorted thing immediately. Absolutely lovely and we will absolutely be back.

I don't normally write thank you email to companies praising one work. But this person really stood out and really help us in my time of need.
We had a bad experience from Reception nothing good from it.we finally found a bar but it was closing soon, the Bartender told us to stay and said '. As long he is there he will continue to serve us, so let turn that frown upside down and get a drink in you, it's Friday. " that made us laugh and connect with him.
We managed to get a few drinks in before we asked to leave by a waiter. The Bartender tried to explain to her, but she told him she told to move us on.
The bartender apologies to us and he recommended few other bars near the hotel.
We won't be coming back because of the hotel status, we will be coming back to see Bartender Andre.

First day open! What a beautiful hotel. I loved every single bit of detail put into the design of the areas. From the beautiful knives and forks at breakfast, to the morning, noon and night mats in the elevators. Every detail is so well thought out.

All the staff finding their feet. I’m sure it’s tough learning everything from scratch.

A few hiccups but all dealt with in a fast and professional manner by Calvin the rooms manager, which was greatly appreciated.

The beds are to die for and the rooms are so sound proof and spacious.

Even if you live in Melbourne take a night out and spoil yourself. It’s worth it after the year that was 2020.

My friend checked in at nite and one of the staffs are super RUDE. Not helping him at all carry the luggage and stood there like no body business. And it’s fishy that he insisted to check my friend’s personal email which has nothing to do with the hotel reservation, which clearly he had no authority to do that. I wish to give no star but the female staff was nice. Absolutely awful experience

No valet available in arrival. Was directed to another carpark which was fine. Only to have our car held hostage till 9am when we attempted to leave at 7: 30am. We had to collect our children and it was quite distressing not being able to retrieve our car.

Eventually when we could get our car the porters at the entrance (there was just 4/5 of them fluffing around) made it pretty difficult to get our bags and rudely asked we move the car over ever thought there was no one else around. Would have thought they would try make it easier not harder considering everything.

Reading other reviews, it would seem their attitude of staff is an issue.

For a hotel charging a premium, you’d want to sort your stuff pretty quickly!

Paid an arm
And a leg to stay here,
All dressed up with nowhere to go.
The Main Bar wasn’t open till 5
then we were told it was booked out,
So we had to have drinks out of plastic cups at the pool bar
with people walking around half naked.
The amount of money we paid to stay here I’m absolutely fuming,
Once the rain eased we managed to get a Taxi to the Westin for a drink.
Massive inconvenience to us and our guests we had arranged to meet.

I really can't fault our experience - everything went very smoothly. Super friendly staff, I wish I could name everyone who made the experience better but nobody wears name badges. Lollo and Curious bar were also a good experience. The room was clean and comfortable, pool was cool overlooking the city with nice drinks at the bar, and everyone I had an encounter with made the experience made it better. HIghly recommended!

Delayed check in, others waiting 2-4 hrs. No shower caps, waited 45 mins still nothing had to go to reception to get one. Luggage arrived to room late. Definitely not luxury quality or service

Very welcoming and very Melbourne! Upon arrival the staff were so attentive and friendly and special mention to the concierge, Jordan, who went above and beyond to get us in for a quick drink at the booked out cocktail bar, Curious, which is awesome!

The room and interior decor are very stylish, neat and clean with lots of modern tech!

The indoor pool area can get pretty packed with lots of kids splashing around and the bar staff were still being trained up, but the cocktails were very nice:)

Thanks for a great weekend staycation!

My husband and I were fortunate to be one of the first guests to stay at the W Hotel Melbourne during their opening weekend:) We had a fantastic time, the hotel is very nicely styled, the beds are very comfortable and this Hotel really has everything you could ask for. Make sure to make a booking at Lollo with signature chef Adam D'Sylva, a mix of Sri Lankan and Italian cuisine, absolutely delishes.

This brand new iconic Melbourne has unique building shape and interior. I like the surroundings exterior as you can chill outside and enjoy the vibe even though you don't stay in the hotel.

Had a wonderful stay at the W Melbourne. The rooms are great and the staff wonderful. My litmus test for what makes a hotel really great is the club sandwich and I’m delighted to stay the club sandwich at the W Melbourne is the best I’ve ever had!

We ate at the Lolla restaurant (Hotel W’s main restaurant), sadly it was not what we expected. The food was so overpriced for what it was, the duck curry was so average. Literally a curry base with two duck drumsticks served on top. The corn fed chicken was literally a schnitzel for twice the price. The wait staff are lovely, but you struggle to get a decent drink. They had one of the seven riesling’s in stock and when we ordered a ‘pimms’ because the wine was undrinkable, they bought ‘an Australian’ version for Pimms. It tasted like a Bundaberg and watered down coke. $70 per person (there were four of us with three main shared plates and two sides) and three alcoholic beverages. The food is okay, but not from what we expected from head chef Adam Desilva (whom is head of Tonka).

The ‘Australianised’ story/paragraph above the bar is tacky and offensive. Apparently Australian men should resent their wives if they complain about their constant alcoholism. If they were going for fused juxtaposition, it’s more an oxymoron with the price you pay to sit in this hotel and eat tiny plates of expensive food, which isn’t up to scratch taste wise ($12 for one prawn! Although the Mooloolaba prawns are stated as plural, turns out you only get one unless you specify otherwise).

The lighting is very dark and they don’t sell Hendricks or Bombay, so gin fiends can’t get their favourites.

Although the hotel seems trendy, and the speakeasy bar downstairs is aesthetically pleasing, this is a lot of hype for nothing. The menu is so weird and goes against every top restaurant motif “stick to one main concept” (its Indian/Italian fusion, with Australiana flare? !). Very confusing concept wise.

Maybe there are some teething issues, but if you’d like the only steak on the menu you better be willing to pay $105 (whilst reading a paragraph above the bar thats completely tasteless and misrepresents Melbourne entirely).

Is it worth it? No.

Save your Saturday night for something more incredible, like MoVida, Vue De Monde, Gingerboy or those alike. Even Melba at the Langham takes Lolla in spades. It’s an awful shame, because I was so excited!
