Viet Kitchen reviews
59 We gave this place a go today and got rare beef pho and the duck coleslaw salad here because our usual favourite restaurants were closed (Xmas week).
The pho broth was sweeter than most other places and also had multiple chunks of ginger in it which I have not experienced before at other Viet restaurants (I understand it may contribute to the stock flavour, but it is not usually included in the served soup). The beef was also not as tender as most other places. The duck coleslaw was also quite sweet, but the flavour was decent.
Most worryingly was the cleanliness of the restaurant. The bottom of the water serving bottle was dirty and had algae starting to grow, so we didn't drink water. They were obviously not regularly cleaned with a bottle brush and are instead just topped up repeatedly. The door leading to the hallway to the toilet was extremely dirty and had clearly not been cleaned in a long time, particularly on the side coming from the toilet. The white tile splashback near the register was dirty, particularly near the right had side electrical power point which was so covered in filth it was literally brown. It makes me really worry how clean their kitchen must be if they leave the customer visible areas this unclean. Yuck. We did point out the dirty water bottle and door issues to staff at the end of the meal, so I really hope they have addressed this asap.
All up, the food portion sizes were decent, the prices were reasonable and the staff were fine, but I wont be returning as there is better quality food and cleaner restaurants to choose from in the area.
Good service and dishes
Had fried pork wontons and the lemon grass beef. The wonton tasted nothing like pork, but the lemon grass beef wasn't so bad. Decent sized plates.
First time here we (2 adults) arrived around 2.15pm for a late lunch so shared the pork spring rolls, delicious, came with fresh crisp lettuce and few sprigs of mint. The accompanying sauce also was a little different in a great way too.have to agree with another reviewer that Viet Kitchen's spring rolls do seem to have more filling in them as well compared to other cafes in area. We then shared the turmeric sizzling fish (see photo) This was super tasty, highly recommend this. Came out sizzling on the clay plate stayed hot to eat and fish was cooked perfectly. The turmeric fish accompanied with cooked spring onions and dill and some other spices.yum yum yum. We ate this with a side of rice. We will definitely be back. Service was also friendly and quick.
Came on a Saturday at 7 pm and the packed was almost full. The spring roll sizes felt bigger than other restaurants, unfortunately the fish sauce was a bit of a letdown. The sizzling plate was pretty good although a little expensive when it's filled mostly with vegetables. The fried chicken on Rice is also decent with its crispy seasoned coating, but once again heavy on the rice and the salad.

Love this place, it's a regular for me as a Footscray local. The food is fresh and served quickly. They have BYO. The staff are polite and helpful. I continue to return here because it's always tasty.
Went to eat here on a whim with my family. Ordered Grilled Pork with Rice and Macha Milk Tea, overall the food was satisfactory, the portions were of a medium size, moderately over priced. However due to miss communication the restaurant served us Salt and Pepper Quail, took it back inside and apparently began to cook our desired dish -Salt and Pepper Calamari-. Thus leading to the Salt and Pepper Calamari we had ordered not being delivered by the time everyone had already finished eating. We stood up to pay the bill with the expectation that we would be charged for only the dishes we had been served. Oh boy was I wrong, it was unprofessional for restaurant to charge us for the incorrect dish they had served. I do not recommend this restaurant.
I go to this little Vietnamese restaurant regularly now. Vegetables and seafood are always fresh and waiting staff are lovely. It seems it's family owned. They open all day so it's convenient.
The food and prices explained why this place is the only one has empty tables on New Year Eve. The pork chop is too dry from being microwaved. The Pho broth is too cloudy and over-seasoned.
For non-Vietnamese, best option would be fried rice and spring rolls, as they can't go wrong. Second best option: go somewhere else.
Thought we give this restaurant a try. Food not that great. Had the chicken ribs and tomato rice and steam dumplings. Avoid the steam dumplings. Chicken ribs and tomato rice weren't that great either.
The place is clean.
Went again last week with friends, a year later and still fantastic. Sure there may be tissues instead of serviettes but definitely go
Nice and quick on a Sunday nite. The sauce for the pork spring rolls were amazing!
Hubby loved his fried pork ribs and I’m loving the chicken Pho.
Great little drop in for a quick yummy meal. Super friendly staff.great variety of dishes to choose from!
Superbly tasty, authentic food! Service was quick, the staff were friendly and the place has a nice ambiance. (Not the typical white fluoro lighting like some places) Dishes were a good size and priced well. We went in a Tuesday night and they were busy so best to book. I’ll be craving their rare beef pho within a week for sure. A great find.
Absolutely delicious vermicelli noodle bowl! Pork & spring rolls were incredible, flavour was amazing. Will be getting again- thank you!
Such a delicious meal. Prawn spring roll and beef in vine leaf entrés. Quick service, fresh taste.
Tells u 15 mins to pick up and still not ready 30mins later and it's not busy. I am standing here as I wait reviewing. Never again
As I said, they tell u it'll be fifteen minutes then take 30mins. Nobody said i was waiting there for 30 mins. Also the worst San choi boi (or however u spell it I've ever had) more celery than anything, was horrible. Pho was below average too. Go elsewhere
I asked for a small tub of lemon chicken sauce in the notes when I ordered some broken rice, and I got a huge of it. I didn't think they would do it and it definitely made my night!
Love this place! Staff are so friendly and most importantly the food it delicious, big portions and authentic Vietnamese food. We have come back time and time again. Walk past Sapa sisters and go in here if you want vietnamese.
Awesome food and service! Had the soft shell crab viet salad, prawn salad and seafood pancake. All fantastic and really tasty. Great variety and amazing for people who have dietary requirements (V, GF…)
I was not impressed. The pepper steak tasted like the sauce came from a supermarket packet (think third-rate pub pepper steak flavour) and the vegetables were overcooked to the point of disintegrating. I don't eat out very often and was thoroughly disappointed to receive a meal like this.
If I could leave them no stars I would. It was almost closing time so I’m not sure what happened however we ordered a “special fried rice” and spring rolls with vermachelli noodles. The rice looked as if it had just been reheated. The egg was grey. The rice was terrible. We didn’t even get through 2 mouthfuls before throwing it straight in the bin. As for the spring rolls with noodles, the noodles were not fresh at all and had a terrible sauce. The salad was wilted and soft. I honestly could not recommend anything about this place. Im normally not one to write these kinds of review but the experience was that bad I felt I had to.
Im so disappointed. This was my first night out to get take away alone without any kids in months and I was so excited to be able to pick what I wanted to eat. Only to be terribly dissatisfied!
