Bookings essential at this outstanding restaurant or you most likely won't be able to get in. Two serving times are available for most meals and almost always are booked solid. It is definitely worth booking to eat @ Tien Dat! The menu is extensive and very very tasty and extremely affordable compared to most restaurants. A two storey restaurant so book downstairs if you struggle with stairs. This restaurant is always full of customers in an area with many excellent restaurants and places to eat. This restaurant has been growing for the decade plus it has operated in busy Box Hill. A little noisy due to always being full of customers and sometimes a bit of a battle to get in the door. This is because usually there is a few people without a booking wanting to get in. More than worth it for a truly excellent eating experience. It has become a family favourite place for us to celebrate with a quick, yummy very affordable meal. Five stars plus for Tien Dat.

Authentic, fresh Vietnamese food. But somehow also not. Extra $3 for a soup broth if you want it for your broken rice. (Com Tam Dac biet). Bowl of broth should come standard. Never have I been to a Vietnamese restaurant, ordered a broken rice and not come with a small bowl of broth. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but expected for the Box Hill area. Would have to think twice about coming back.

I have been frequenting this restaurant for years. It is still fantastic. The food is great and good value. Service lacked a little, but the staff are super friendly.

In this era of gentrification and the sacrifice of quality, next to, but not overshadowed by the behemoth Sky One lays the quaint Tien Dat. This restaurant is a beacon of culinary light that shines through it's patrons lives. This is a quality restaurant that serves some delicious Vietnamese food at an attractive price point. This reviewer recommends the pho and lemongrass pork bun with spring rolls for a great lunch or dinner. The interior is modern and welcoming and the staff are nice, great for a date or catch up with a friend.

This place never disappoints, every time I’ve been the food has been nothing but wonderful.

Highly recommend the Hanoi Spring rolls.

Will keep returning to this lovely place.

I’ll say it’s pretty average. It’s not bad however it’s not great either. Tables are not even 1.5metres apart which makes me really nervous while having dinner.

The quality and service level has gone downhill since I last visited a few years ago. Used to be amazing fresh food but now it's kind of mediocre. Wonder if management changed?

Clean and bright, quite modern.
We had crispy chicken with noodles and stir-fried prawns in curry and coconut cream.
Both dishes were very good. Service was good. Corkage of $7.50 was not unreasonable.
I would be happy to eat there again.

It was great. I love going there. I always have the Red Curry with Sweet Potatoes including Roti Bread and the vegetables and tofu option. Also, enjoy the Hot Vietnamese Coffee!

We came here for a family birthday a few years ago and it was great, so we kept coming back. Recently had a different experience. We were crammed onto a small table in the thoroughfare and none of our meals came out together, like they were staggering the main courses (across 45 minutes) and the rice came out with the last dish, so the rest of us who ate first didn't get rice. We made the staff aware of this and nothing was done. It was okay food and reasonably priced but not worth it if you're uncomfortable the entire evening.

Delicious Vietnamese cuisine which you can enjoy at this place. The staff is polite and very helpful if you are not sure about any particular ingredients or choosy in your food. Little bit crowded so make sure you book an appointment in advance. Parking is issue around Boxhil but if you are going for dinner after 6PM then there should be plenty of free parking around.

The food was amazing! I can't fault any of the dishes we had served up. The fried calamari was the best I've ever had.

Modern decor and can tell the staff are well drilled and run a tight ship. Friendly and competent staff made the experience that much better.

Only negative I can pick out is that it's quite cramped and the tables are very close together. Place was packed out so this can mean sitting very close to other patrons.

Definitely recommend and make sure you book ahead

The menu and the pictures of the food have all the hallmarks of your traditional Vietnamese eatery. All your usual suspect dishes you'd expect are there, honestly great menu. Food felt fresh and less oily and healthier versions like a home cooking style. Renovations lovely makes it look very up market. Price is medium but pricier than your traditional eateries for eg $16 for pho where in Richmond it's $10.

Won't be returning here. The Bánh cuốn (prawn steamed pancake) was nice however grossly over priced. The Bún, grilled lemongrass chicken was very underwhelming. It lack salad and flavour. Essentially rice noodles and a bit of boring chicken. Again very overpriced for what it was. Trading off the name and appealing to a certain audience it seems. Look elsewhere

Food was average.
Satay sauce was very unique and tasteful!
One waiter was very accommodating and cooperative, while one was plain cold and borderline rude.
Ordered a drink and when it didn't arrive for 10 mins, we followed up and the rude waitress just stood there and said it's on its way.

When I called to book they asked us to come in half an hour earlier than I wanted to book for. I said no worries but I’d have to check with my other guests as it was early, called back to cancel because we couldn’t get there in time and all of a sudden they could do the time I’d originally asked for. So went ahead and booked for 5 people. Arrived to be put on a table for 4, I (politely mind you) confirmed we had 5 coming and they said yeah no worries and added an extra setting, however the tables were small even for a group of four and the fifth person was in the walkway. I asked if we could be moved to a bigger table or even one that was out of the way and they said they would when the next group moved on. After several other tables left we still weren’t moved and it was hard to even get a waiters attention.
Ordered beers and took well over 20 minutes to get them. Took 25 minutes and us asking 3 times to even get wine glasses.
We had three entrees all brought out a separate times at least 10 minutes apart each.
Out of four mains ordered (plus rice) one arrived and then we finished that and had to ask two times where the rest of our meals were. Rice wasn’t brought out until the last dish was.

The wait staff weren’t rude at any point but they were nowhere to be found, and when asked about where or meals were they couldn’t actually give us an answer. It was disappointing as we have been there before and enjoyed the food.

Pho beef soup and pho chicken soup were very oily and the taste like dry shallotte fried with oil, not boil from bone.
No more visit again and not recommended.

Excellent Vietnamese restaurant. Extensive menu; some selections reflect the French influence from colonial times. Friendly and efficient service. One of our regular places to go for dinner.
