The Wanderer Thai Bar and Kitchen

Had birthday dinner here.
Surprised with balloons and complimentary piece of birthday cake complete with candle, macaroons and berries. Live music also sang happy birthday. Felt very spoilt!
Staff, food and atmosphere were all wonderful. Could not fault. Had a really lovely, memorable evening.
Definitely come back again.

I left in tears. My partner and I walked in last night around 9: 30pm ish hoping to grab dinner at this restaurant. I did knew this restaurant can be booked out on Saturday night but when I walked passed.it was pretty empty with a lot of vacant tables and the peak hours has passed so I thought I would try asking if there was a table available. I mean nothing is wrong with asking right?
We walked in… I spoke to the boy with the glasses at the counter ‘ Hi so sorry we didn’t make any reservation but I was hoping to get a table for 2 if it’s available? ’. The boy just nodded his head, smiled and pointed us to the bar. I said, oh we are not here for the bar, we just want to eat dinner but he kept telling us to go to the bar, so we just assumed he wanted us to wait at the bar first because that’s what most restaurants does, they made the customers wait at the bar until there’s a table available.
We sat at the bar near the toilet or kitchen, waited for a good 10-15mins but no one came to us with no menu nothing and all the staffs just walked passed or attending to the other customers.
Then a group of 4 Asian people walked in.they went and grabbed a seat on one of the booth that was vacant and was served with menu straight away.so I felt like something was off so my partner went to ask the male staff again. The male staff told my partner no, there’s only the bar available for us. So then we moved our seats to the other side of the bar area away from the kitchen, we waited for staff to give us the food menu but no one was coming to us or attending us or taking care of us. I didn’t mind, I went and asked one of the female staff working at the bar the meal menu and she gave me drink menu with some special meals on it and not the proper menu… then the staff told us to order at the counter and brushed off before I could ask for the food menu. The male staff we spoke to at the start walked passed so, I stopped him and told him I feel pretty disappointed with how we’ve been treated, he just smiled (I can feel the smile was not genuine) and told us there’s a birthday party function happening at 10pm. No other things was mentioned, just keep getting told there’s a function happening. Why didn’t he tell us this when we first came in? And it was 9: 56pm, 4mins to turn 10pm. No tables were set up for the birthday party. The big tree tables were still left with dirty plates and nothing was cleaned up. I call it biggest bs telling us there was a birthday function happening. Maybe there was a function booked, but if a customer tells you they feel disappointed with the way they’ve been treated, shouldn’t you find out why? And how to solve the issue? But instead you keep getting told there’s a function and indirectly telling you to leave.
I come here multiple time, celebrated my bday here last year. I remember coming here without booking on Saturday night and it was more busier than this. I did got a table maybe because I was wearing heels and dress? But I’ve seen white make customers wearing just Kmart t shirt and jeans? Is it because my partner is not white, not Asian? Or is it because the way we were dressed? I don’t think I need to wear dress and heels to dine? Our dressing code was neat, smart casual. I took a video when we left it was 9: 56pm. Less than 5 tables were occupied. And there was dirty tables too.

I have an excellent dining experience from here. Even the live music was a bit too loud but everything was perfect, than I expected.

The decor of the place is what initially caught my eyes as it looks so fancy and elegant. Decided to try it out with my husband and friend as it had a good selection of drinks and food. If you like Thai food then i would recommend to try this place, staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious, also good to note that the meat is halal.
The only negative thing was that they refused to make me a mocktail as there was a larger group there ordering a lot of cocktails. My group were also able to order cocktails yet I was told they were limited on supply. To me that was very disappointing, as I'm pregnant and cant have any cocktails so it made me feel excluded and not a valued customer. Would have given higher star if it wasn't for that.

Experience would have been better if they had more floor staff attending to all the consumers. Many requests we're forgotten, even a simple request of a plate of rice was not delivered.

The ambience was nice. The food were average, especially the chicken we had was under cook.
The Western staff she needs to be more active listening.

We had Valentine dinner here and it was an amazing experience. The food was yum and good portion. The staff was so nice and helpful despite they had full house yesterday. The decor was lovely and the music was on spot. Even though it was fully booked, I m happy we had enough space for ourselves and our dishes without touching the people on our left and right. I appreciate the set wasn’t too tight and leave us some private space to talk and dine. I would definitely come back. My husband loves the dinner too!

The atmosphere was nice, but the food and service were average. Normally I don't write bad reviews for businesses, but this one is.
We got prawns that weren't gutted and weren't fresh, there was a big surcharge if you paid by card, waiters kept coming over to ask if we're done, and they tried to take dishes away when we were still eating. Then another waiter kept coming back every 5 minutes asking if ‘are you sure you don’t want me to take it’ even though we were still eating. It was expensive so I would expect more but this one was below average.
I wouldn't recommend it.

Food is great, with nice flavours and options. Service staff were a bit dysfunctional on the night. Overall, it wouldn't stop me from going back. Not many vegetables serviced with the meals unfortunately. Ordered a stir-fry so expected vegetables. And way too much coriander.

Ordered 2 jugs of singha beer that appears to be flat.

Ordered 2 side dishes, the french fries was horrible and the fried chicken wing was dry.

We went there because my frd bday. The staff was friendly and nice! The service is +100/100marks. The food is ok. Not bad. But the manager and staffs are so nice! They provide balloon for my frd for free? And the guy who helped me reserve the table is really nice and friendly! I am really appreciate it. Definitely will recommend to my family and all of my friends.the price is priceable. Love it!

Had dinner there on a Wednesday night at 6: 00pm. The website says that you can share a menu for two or more people (see the screenshot of menu), but when we went to order they said that there had to be three or more so. Off to a bad start.

We then ordered a bottle of wine and a cocktail before ordering food, and even though there was only three other tables occupied it took twenty minutes and the waitress turned up without the cocktail as they had forgot and just a glass of wine not the bottle. I then had to go through a lengthy explanation of what we had actually ordered, which she didn't take too kindly to.

Then the food started to arrive, we ordered two entries and two mains and some rice. One of the mains turned up first, it was the PAD THAI KING PRAWNS, which consisted of some oily noodles and only TWO king prawns. TWO PRAWNS.

Then the entrees turned up and the food standard was similar, kind of what you would expect in a lunch time market cafeteria, and that is being generous. Then the second main turned up followed sometime later by the rice. As the main had gone cold we just left it and the rice payed our bill of $180 and went home.

Awful experience. Awful food. And shonky deceitful advertising via the website to get you in.

This is such a nice place, live music was amazing! Food tasty and service was great! Had my birthday here and really happy about it!

One of the best Thai food in Melbourne. The ambiance, the food, the drinks, all were amazing.
The live music made a very special effect. The staff was very polite and helpful.

Had an absolute amazing experience! Loved the place, ambience, decoration, friendly staff, music, and food was super yummmmm. Celebrated my husband’s 50th with few close friends, highly recommend anytime.

First time here and brought the family for a late lunch. My SISTER wanted to come here for the French dip sandwich and we were not disappointed. Even the Mac and cheese was really nice that one of my kids had and the other really loved his Brooklyn burger. Will be back here again

Went in on a quiet night with my husband for dinner. There were only 3 tables then. We ordered a couple of dishes to share which included a prawn pad thai, but was served a chicken pad thai instead. We were ready to let it go since they are a relatively new restaurant and we didn't mind having the chicken pad thai anyway. To our horror, the chicken was raw. It took us about another 10 mins to get the attention of the wait staff. We also ordered a green curry, which was served extremely hot. We suspected it's been in microwave before serving to us. There were also a couple of tap beers unavailable that night, which the staff did not inform us when we were seated. There was a lot of back and forth from the bar and to our table just to check what's available. However, we were given a discount at the end of night. With its beautiful interior, I hope this restaurant can improve over time.
