The Tea Room reviews
69Delightful high tea with very accommodating staff for the little ones who accompanied us. Will return soon thankyou
Wonderful high Tea. Food was delightful and it was a wonderful finish to a wander through the gallery.
My party of four, 2 adults and 2 six year olds enjoyed a delightful morning tea. The staff were exceptional and very charming with the younger members of our party. The tea, cakes and sandwiches were delicious. My companion, a chef, remarked she had never had a better iced coffee.
Staff were absolutely wonderful and the food was first class. We did the high tea and will definitely be going back to do it again. We highly recommend it to everyone
I’ve thought about it and I’d like to change the star amount from 4 to 5 because I’m still smiling a day later from the experience. It’s great. Everything’s great
The staff at NGV tea rooms were very helpful and pleasant. The surroundings pleasant. A great place to meet with friends and chat. Thank you.
My wife and I had a tasty and very filling High Tea in the National Gallery Tea Room. Would recommend to anyone wanting a special day out.
Not what we expected as viewed on the Web site.
We had a reservation and confirmation but it was as if they did not expect us when we arrived. The Tea Room was a basic Cafe and disappointing as a high tea venue and not as the web site shows with tablecloths. The food was certainly enough for 2 people and scones good but the whole experience dampened the occasion. We certainly expected plusher surroundings for the money.
Everything was superb. After viewing the French Impressionists, such a feast for the eyes, sat and relaxed over a beautiful Chardonay and ribbon sandwiches. Everyone is so friendly, the space is really safe and clean. Thankyou NGV, you do everything with style. Bravo and cheers.
We had booking today for a group of 7 at 12pm. I have got a phone call confirmed yesterday but I came in and the lady said we weren't on the system. And look like she didn't want to organise a table for us. Then her manager came over and said she would organise the table, apologise for the confusion and explained it might be booking system because the restriction just changed today. Anyway, she was so lovely and look after us very well. Our kids have nut allergy and my wife is vegetarian but she explained the menu very clearly and recommended us the Chef Special and the Beef Cheek. My wife had Winter masterpiece Salad. We had great experience, very welcoming services and lovely chat with the manager as she looked after us the whole time even though the tearoom was so busy and crowded, despite the confusion from the beginning thou.
High Tea at NGV was devastatingly disappointing. Food was not particularly exciting or satisfying. If I paid $40 pp I would say that would be fair for what we got but at $79pp, it was way overpriced and underdelivered in terms of gourmet quality, quantity and provided an underwhelming experience all round. It's a shame because it has the potential to be spectacular and memorable but leaves you feeling ripped off. I gave a second star only because the serving staff were pleasant.
Went here for work lunch and the food was great. Menu has limited options, but we had chef's special Mushroom quiche and it was delicious. Coffee and cake were wonderful too. Quite big selection of cakes. The setting is alright and could be improved given its situated inside such a beautiful gallery. The service was friendly too.
I took my daughter and family to the NGV tearoom for lunch during the Triennial. The food was OK, but the service was quite haphazard. The waiter had to be reminded that one of us had ordered an omelette, which finally arrived long after the rest of us were served. Afterwards we had to queue up to pay. Strangely, just as it was my turn, with others behind me, the cashier simply walked away, leaving us all standing while she wiped down tables before eventually returning to the queue to take our payments!
My daughter enjoyed her birthday with a few friends at the Tea Room, with a spot of High Tea.
The service was fabulous and attentive. Afterwards we enjoyed the various art on display at our leisure. Thank you.
We had a very enjoyable lunch at the NGV Tea Room last week. The service was quick and friendly and the food delicious. Highly recommended.
A lovely high tea, the food was delicious, quality and more than enough for two of us. However I think some of the staff were new and still learning and could use some more supervision from experienced staff in just checking in to see if we needed more water, take our hot drink orders etc.
We had a fantastic high tea experience at the NGV tea rooms. We had two members of our party with dietary requirements which were looked after (really went above and beyond). Water glasses and the free flowing sparkling options were constantly topped up. Very appreciative.
Great service by attentive staff
Limited menu but very good quality. Prices are reasonable. My third visit.
Nice place to have a high tea or some devonshire tea. Not cheap but the staff are attentive and helpful
The setting is amazing, obviously. The tea is lovely, but scones are not really scones. Everything was fresh and lovely. Very hands-off service.
