The Smoke Pit reviews
47All the meat was really great but their Mac n cheese needs a lot of work. It was made with tasty cheese (a mistake) so was really sour. It had also split - inedible. I suggest they try different recipe.
Was really disappointed with the food, very little flavor on the night we went for a friends birthday. Was also charge $20 for one glass of prosecco
Wow! After watching so many American food shows i was so exited to see a Southern American BBQ Bistro at my door step. So we decided to get some takeaway. Apon walking in the restaurant the atmosphere felt like you were in Texas and the vibe was great. We ordered 3 brisket burgers a veggie burger and frys. Unfortunately the corn and potatoes salad wasn't available so my question is then why is it on the menu? One by one we were shocked and disappointed with the state of our food. The ONE SMALL PIECE of brisket was dry along with the bun that was microwaved, dry and stale. The fries had no seasoning and tasted like they were out of a suppermarket packet. We couldn't stomach it, $70 went straight in the bin. We complained and the manager said he would make us fresh ones, Do restaurants taste there own food before it goes out anymore or do they just expect thier patrons to pay for food that isn't up to standard. What ever happened to fresh food. FIRST IMPRESIONS LAST FOR EVER.
Went to the all you can eat on last night (Wednesday night).
Unfortunately after high hopes the service was very poor, wait staff seated us and didn't tell us we had to go to the counter to order, once we figured this out and ordered the wait for our first plate of food was 1hr and 30mins, then another 50mins for the next round. At this point we ran out of time to finish the rest of the offered food on the all you can eat menu. Brisket was decent, other smoked offerings lacked the seasoning and smoked flavour unfortunately.
Value for $45 all you can eat is very good though.
Devine, amazing.
We had a taste and the wine and food festival in Central Park Malvern.
Waited months for the right time.
Worth the wait, food is great, service to, salads are fresh, meat is to die for.
WOW WOW WOW what an awesome place, food was to die for. We ordered beef brisket, Mac and cheese, pulled pork, and onion rings. Every single thing was bloody delicious.
Thank you so much for your awesome friendly service that matches in with the theme of the place and great food. You will be seeing alot of us.
Thank you to the Smoke Pit for an awesome Australia Day feast! I’m a Missouri girl born and raised on Kansas City bbq- I’ve literally never had good bbq in Melbourne. Lol so happy we found this place. 6 stars to the mac and cheese.
That was the first time I went there with my daughter. The staff where amazing, the service was welcoming and the food wow the food this place is one of my top 5 places to eat now. Can't wait to go back.
Just had a family Christmas party here, can not recommend The Smoke Pit enough. Josh and the team treated us like family: warm and genuine! The food was on point full of flavour and Josh even came out and went through the smoking process, housemade pickles, ingredients etc. Presenting great knowledge and pride in his restaurant. Go and visit Josh and the team for a genuine American BBQ affair
Feast for 4 - 4th time ordering
When they get it right, they get it right. Perfectly cooked brisket with a delicious pepper salt bark, excellent pulled pork with not an ounce of fat in sight, lovely snags rich in flavour, juicy sweet corn, fresh salads and perfect sauces to compliment.
But when they get it wrong like tonight’s dinner, I feel cheated out of $125.00
brisket trimmed with an inch thick slice of unrendered fat, juicy but completely flavourless corn, overcook dry chicken, tinny portion of pulled pork, snags and sides great as normal
Probs won’t order again as there is just no consistency in the meal, I don’t want to cross my fingers in hopes for a great meal.
Great Texas feeling restraunt. They got great tasting smoked food at great prices. Also have a lot of hot (chilli) products including sauces and chips. Take the spicy chip challenge of you dare
Last night we had dinner and it was really really good, a special thanks to Joshua the very kind owner and made us feel really welcome. We will definitely be back
Had a great pulled pork sandwich in 2019 from their giant smoker setup at an obstacle race. Now they've gambled on opening a BBQ Bistro in early 2021 despite the heavy restrictions. I expect this Thomastown enterprise to flourish! Just tried brisket, wings and chips & all were great. The Smoke Pit does a great job with big, tasty portions. I'm ready to try the ribs and jalapeno cheese sausages with a few friends later today. I'm an Yaussie from the southwest U. S.and love smoky Tex, Memphis & Bama BBQ.
Good menu for smoked meats and prices are reasonable. Not the place to go to if you're vegetarian!
Whilst their pork ribs fell off the bone easily, the meat was dry and chewy unfortunately. The chicken wings were good too but again, not succulent and didn't have enough sauce on it. Their burgers looked good and juicy and beef brisket looked good too but I didn't try them. Maybe next time!
My favourite dish was the onion rings, highly recommended!
THE BEST, THE BEST, THE BEST.
This joint is the best BBQ I've ever had. It's my first recommendation to people, and the first option for when I go out with people. Every one I have brought here has loved it to and it seriously top quality. The food is insanely delicious and cooked to perfection, but the atmosphere and staff are all so welcoming and friendly. So the experience and the food both live up to the hype.
I've been to the so called best BBQ joints around Melbourne recommended by various blogs and lists and all I can say is they are so underwhelming. But The Smoke Pit is the best BBQ in Melbourne and possibly Australia no question about it, everything I have eaten has been amazing. They tick all the boxes and you will usually find me eating in here at least a few times a month.
Possibly the best bbq place in Melbourne.
I took my American partner and she was so busy eating she didn't speak to me apart from to tell me how good it was.
I'll be back again
Great staff, great food and a great atmosphere. Iv already become a regular, I wouldn't go anywhere else for great Texas bbq, nowhere else compares to this gem?
Omg, this place was amazing I haven't ate so good in a long time, the staff was amazingly friendly, I will definitely come back with all my friend as soon as possible.
Bbq ahumado definitvamente recomendado, no habia probado algo asi desde hace mucho Tiempo.
Thank you.
Second time The Smoke Pit has had a special on uber eats, accepted my order then just canceled minutes prior to due delivery time without contact, just canceling the order. With restrictions in place this has not only left me with no meal but also no opportunity to order from any other provider.
Really loved my meal at this restaurant. The staff are very friendly, and knowledgeable, the food is delicious and unique compared to other bbq I’ve had, lots of flavours and they have some traditional favorites and their own style the smoked meats are impeccable and better than other BBQ places I’ve tried around Melbourne. The restaurant is very clean and roomy plenty of room for big group and seems kid friendly. The main thing that I was really impressed with was price, for the quality of the meal, the customer service and the restaurant the price is very good. I will be dining here regularly, an excellent find in the north.
