The Ox and Hound Bistro Beechworth

Beware of the lunch special. We had a group booking for a lunch special and because we chose a different drink or the wrong wine we were excluded from the lunch special and the waiter did not make us aware of this at the time. Hence our meal was normal price with drinks on top.

This group wont be falling for that again.

We had dinner at this fantastic place and will repeat when going to Beechworth again. The environment is perfect, the staff is the best in the area, and the food is fabulous! Great wine as well! ;)

Food wonderful, staff easy and engaging, comprehensive list of local and international wines. All good, except for background noise level (unavoidable, but contributed to by hard floors and full diner capacity), and my choice of main dish from the menu being unavailable on the night.

Absolutely delicious food and amazing service! I could not fault a single thing. I’ve never had chicken that tasty and succulent, the duck fat potatoes were perfectly cooked. Their signature dessert, honey pannacotta is an absolute must. I was almost too full to order dessert but didn’t want to miss out, so thought I’d be able to try a bit. I ate everything and wanted to lick the plate it was just sooo good. A must try when in Beechworth!

I have a soft spot for Beechworth and have been going there for 9 years and The Ox and Hound is a must visit for lovely higher end Italian cuisine. Keep up the good work Sean

Really disappointed. I don't mind at all paying for something amazing, infact I absolutely welcome it, but this was either so heavy handed like giving us a huge chunk of liver and 2 palm sized slices of burnt bread for $20 (entre') or having the kid's risotto so heavy with parmesan they said it smelt like vomit. I checked it out and it was true. It was absolute slop. It was like it was made in a huge pot and just smashed out onto a plate like a comedic line in an army camp. It also didn't include anything else.just literally two big bowls of yellow slop. Our mains were also pretty average. We were keen for dessert as well but the place was just a money vacuum that didn't mirror the quality so we left.

Dined here Mothers day evening. WOW WOW WOW. What a stunning little place to dine. Service was superb. The menu is small but stunning. Wife had risotto for entree. She loved it. I had rabbit and pasta and it was terrific. For main we both had duck. And WOW it was the best. Absolutely devine. We ordered the 3 sides and glad we did. Then came desert OMG yummyyummy. She had the pannacota and I had the lindt chocolate terrine. These were the best deserts we have ever eaten anywhere wanting more. Ambience was great and cleanliness was top notch. Great restaurant and will definately visit again. Thanks for an awesome dining experience

I forget our waitress's name (red haired medical student) but she was lovely! Really engaging!
The homemade bread and churned butter was delicious! Our mains were a bit inconsistent in terms of temperature. Cold plates and clearly some elements had been prepared ahead of the main protein so were cold. We mentioned it more as an fyi than a serious complaint and very graciously were not charged for the sides. The flavors across each dish were delicious and well balanced.
Thoroughly recommend the gougeres which are something I could eat all day!
Overall really enjoyed it and would definitely return.
