The Ox and Hound Bistro Beechworth reviews
52Have eaten here previously and booked again for dinner. Unfortunately forgot my phone and needed to fetch it from accommodation. However, we felt herded out the door to the front street and completely unwelcome. By the time I found my phone and Vax cert in the car, we had completely lost the appetite to dine at this place. A few lessons in manners and customer relations would go down well. Went for a pizza instead and it was delicious.
Front of house and service was incredibly professional. Meals were cooked and timed to perfection.
What a lovely, lovely experience.the service was second to none.a friendly group of people and excellent food.my partner and I came on a friday night and the manager fit us in for a last minute booking and so glad that he did.if you’re in beechworth looking for quality food - look no further!
Delicious dinner. The potato waffle was the only disappointment. Great wine selection and staff were friendly and efficient.
After you enter, you expect a special evening of fine dining. This changed while the evening continued. Having more customers cannot be an excuse not to ask how the food was.
Steak was more than charred although it was still juicy & delicious. I’d suggest to over think the presentation of the potato waffles though. Duck ragout was delicious. Wine slightly overpriced - compared to others in the area.
Staff were polite but rushed, hadn’t finished entree before the plate was taken away. Had a phone call fro the restaurant during my meal to see why l hand not turned up! I made them aware and they made a joke and no apologies.
Had the risotto, not good bland and stodgy.
Please tell atmospheres but they need to work on being a bit more welcoming.
Excellent service, great food in an intimate, polished yet casual atmosphere. Would highly recommend!
This has to be one of my favourite restaurants of all time! The food is phenomenal - the butter roasted broccoli is elite and heirloom beetroot salad is the perfect starter to your meal. Everything was amazing the crown jewel is the Honey Panacotta - with their housemade ice cream. This is a Beechworth must do! Make sure you book in advance! Can't wait to go back.
The Ox and Hound Bistro is a favourite for my wife and I. The service is outstanding, with high quality dishes and a beautiful atmosphere. We never feel rushed, and appreciate the attention to detail, highly recommend.
Oh my gosh! Everything we had was delicious. Ambience was quite nice and service, lovely. We had the pork and chicken terrine to start and then I had a chestnut fettucine with rabbit and my partner had the risotto, we also had sides and a citrusy dessert. Would definitely recommend. The backroom can get a bit cold in the winter though but that's to be expected with old buildings.
Exceptional service and detailed touches, that made the evening so enjoyable. The food was very high quality, and it was definitely our best beechworth dining experience so far.
Amazing food. Excellent friendly service. Definitely try the chocolate dessert or their signature dessert. And the vanilla bean ice-cream!
One of the best places I have eaten. We came to Beechworth 12 months ago and could not get In. This time we booked ahead. The food is to die for. My compliments to the chef and great staff who made our experience amazing.
Everything was superb.the food, the wine and the service were all impeccable. This is a ‘must do’ dining experience when in Beechworth. Save room for their signature dessert too!
Great food and great service. Good local wine choice. Mains were really good with amazing panacota dessert.
Exceptional food, lovely service. What a cosy, beautiful place - all of our food was outstanding. Highly recommend and would definitely come back next time we're in Beechworth. Thank you!
I very recently ordered a take away meat ball and rich tomato, onion and gently 'spiced' sauce which I felt the love they put into the dish. Importantly it was piping hot, so extra care doing this for me was a real winner. Delivered by Ox 's Karen at the exact time requested. Just one request K, is it possible to get a fish dish back.light beer batter.but guess that's hard for take away. And any chance to get some De Bortoli wines.e. G.only a Petit Verdot with age 2015 and a Cab Sav from their Heathcote. $11
Iike Verdelho too not local though
Cheers from Terry, a local.
PS 24 hour slow cooked goat with the Petit beautifully coloured Verdot.nice in winter.they have goat at the famous marble and collonade Italian restaurant near top of hill in the main street in Daylesford in the depths of winter.atmosphere there.great
Excellent pasta and protein dishes paired with local wines. True blue honey panacotta dessert is also to die for!
We had a lovely lunch. Amazing homemade pasta. We would definitely recommend the fettuccine with rabbit and red wine as well as the homemade pasta with balmain bug.
I just didn't expect this style of resturant in beechworth, surprised yes. Food that was served was terrfic, cooked beautifully, presented beautifully, service very good. Not every thing suited my taste but it was very good. Would make a point of going back if I was in the area. Len
