The Olive Tree

Long established Italian joint in south Melbourne area. We tried ordered couple of pastas and the veal Schnitzel. Pasta are Al dente and the sauce seasoned nicely although a little too wet to our liking. Schnitzel was thin, crispy, juicy and have a nice accompanying sauce. Venue is perfect for a casual date night or mini occasions.

Had a early dinner with friends and my 2 year old. Loved the original decor and exposed brick, feels very authentic! They provided a high chair for my daughter and staff were very attentive with service/topping up drinks.

We had a selection of garlic breads, bruschetta and the calamari to begin, followed by pasta and the lamb shanks. All cooked very well and the portions were generous size. Looking forward to trying the desserts next time around.

Still a lovely venue after 50 years. My duck was slightly dry, but tat wouldn't stop me from returning

Very good food and big meals. Weird decor and wall furnishings and chairs/ seating uncomfortable. I like to be comfortable when I eat. Otherwise, I'd recommend trying it for the food which is the most important part.

We regularly dine here and usually get takeaway as well. We have been going here since the late 1970’s! It never ceases to impress and often exceeds our expectations. The owners are so friendly and down to earth, and the staff friendly as well as knowledgeable and helpful. Probably the best steaks in Melbourne but many other excellent dishes. Numerous delicious entrees and deserts. And I must add that they have a wide range of great cocktails. You will not be disappointed - highly recommended

Went with my partner after hearing great things about this restaurant. My experience was complete opposite. The female waitress that served us was completely rude and provided poor service. I felt discriminated against and felt we were treated differently than other patrons. They made no effort to underline the bad service we received. The food was good, I can give them that but unfortunately the service was bad. I hope no one experience what me and my partner went through that evening.

Had a enjoyable evening last Saturday,
Arranged to meet my cousin and his wife, also in our group was our daughter and her husband.
We all had different dishes, all prepared cooked and presented lovely.

Love the caprese! Large menu and food is fresh. Servings are large as well and reasonably priced. Went for a work lunch but would love to return for dinner one day.

Had dinner last night with a few friends. We had Mussels, Bruschetta with tomato and basil for entree. My wife had pasta, and I had the crumbed venison cutlets with caramelised beetroot. Boy the meal was scrumptious. The flavour, quality, and the servings is what dining out should be, when your paying good money. This place certainly delivers all that and more. The dishes weren’t dressed up to to fill the plates. The plates were filled with real tasty wholesome food. Wonder if the chefs married

I love the olive tree. Fresh oysters. Great seafood and steak. And who can resist finishing with affogato with Drambuie. Bon appetit

Alrhough the 1970s decor of brick arches might not appeal to some, the food is delicious. My foodie wife said the risotto was the best she has ever had, my fish was perfect and dads steak was so flavoursome. A great place for an Italian meal. And drinks reasonably price as well.

Steak cooked just right. Awesome staff with great recommendations. Went back the following night for more but couldn't get a table. It was Tuesday night at 7pm and full of people. Shame, I was really looking forward to trying something else from the menu.

One of the amazing steaks I've had in a long time. If you're going to Melbourne, it's a can't miss.

The food was so good (as usual), and my all time favourite place to eat at. The staff are always so friendly and the wait for food isn't very long. I highly recommend this place.
