Mediocre Irish themed bar with a very poor selection of beers. While there I met the owner who was not particularly welcoming or friendly. The upside was that the food was decent. And going on a Tuesday meant that the steak and chips was $25 instead of $40 which was reasonable given the toughness of the steak. Overall a rather disappointing experience. One worth avoiding.

First and foremost, the ambiance is fantastic. The pub has that authentic, cozy, and rustic feel that I love in a traditional Irish pub. It's a great place to unwind with friends, and the atmosphere really sets the mood for a relaxing evening.

The drink selection is impressive, especially if you're a fan of Irish whiskey and beer. They have a variety of options to choose from, including some unique and lesser-known brands. The bartenders are knowledgeable and can make excellent recommendations based on your preferences.

The food menu is decent, offering classic pub fare. While the dishes I tried were tasty, I wouldn't say they were exceptional. They do a good job with the staples like fish and chips, burgers, and hearty soups, but I was hoping for a bit more creativity and variety in the menu.

One thing that stood out was the live music. The Last Jar often hosts local musicians, which adds a lively and entertaining element to the experience. It's a great place to catch some tunes and enjoy the evening.

Service was generally good, though it can get a bit slow during peak hours. The staff is friendly and accommodating, so I didn't mind the wait too much.

The only reason I'm giving this pub four stars instead of five is because I felt that the food, while good, could use a bit more innovation and perhaps a broader selection. However, if you're primarily looking for a place to enjoy drinks, music, and a classic pub atmosphere, the "Last Jar" is definitely worth a visit.

Overall, it's a charming spot to spend an evening with friends or even for a casual date night. I'll be returning for the ambiance and live music, even if I explore other dining options in the area.

Love this place. Surely has one of the best guiness in Melbourne. I always love live music that I have experienced across multiple visits.

Great pub, really fantastic service - the bar tenders were great. Dinner was really nice, the pie was tender and the mash went perfectly with it. The drinks were tasty and decently priced too. The ambience of the place was good, and the venue was very solid. 5/5

Went to The Last Jar on Saturday at midday. Wow! Aaron greeted us, that’s where the spoiling started… He took our orders at our table, I ordered the Chicken Stack, my Husband had the Fish N Chips. Both were amazing. Aaron was helpful with our wine selection too.
*Chef, the fish n chips were the best my Husband has had since moving to Melbs 4yrs ago.
Can’t wait to return. For noting, the overhead music was the best era (pre 2020 shall we say) played at a level you can easily have a conversation over.
4min walk from Vic Markets, reasonable prices. Treat yourselves
PS. Chris was ok too.

Great pub food and friendly service, ordered the chicken stack, sorry no photo, amazing and tasty, also ordered at the table was a chicken parmy (huge) fish & chips (huge) and pot pie, the meat inside was very tender, I recommend to anyone for a good Irish pub meal

Best Guinness in Melbourne!
Get in for the trad session on Wednesday, live music Thursday and the Roast on Sunday.
Great service and pints

I love potato chips and am aware of the shortage, so even though I haven’t seen a price increase at other places yet other than here, these authentic cut potato chips were definitely worth it! Thick cut, so crispy with the skin on and perfectly seasoned. Didn’t need any tomato sauce, enjoyed it much better without. And then we tried the curry and cheese version- honestly so delicious! We appreciated the Irish tunes as well. Good little gem

What an awesome little pub with a homely atmosphere. Great for groups big and small, the staff are lovely and friendly, and the range of pub fare and drinks available is brilliant.

Worst St Patrick’s Day I’ve ever experienced. Kicked us out at 4pm due to a ticketed event, without telling us about that when we arrived. I’ve been here for multiple years and it’s the quietest it’s ever been. Really disappointed.

Had a great night with some great acoustic music on a Friday night. Our singer had a big voice. It was a chilled atmosphere and as a couple we had a great evening there. Thanks

The barmaid is good it's a high class Irish pub. Not as cool as the quiet man but that's ok it's a city pub version

The Last Jar has a special place in our hearts. It is our home away from and our unofficial officespace. The staff have always been super nice and accommodating to our theatre group. The pub has a really laid back setting perfect for creative sessions and get togethers. And the food is amazing! We love it so much we even had our wedding reception here.

We like coming here with friends on a Wednesday night to listen to local musicians “jam” some Celtic tunes, and have a pint or two.

Food is pub fare of satisfactory quality and portions. Chicken Parma was the best we’ve ever had; the tomato sauce was more tasty than anywhere we’ve eaten. Staff are friendly and helpful.

If you’re keen, bring your instrument and join in.

Their beef and Guinness pie was by far the best pie I have ever eaten in my entire life. I would come back to Melbourne just to have it again

The staff were very friendly, the mulled wine so good on a cold winter night and the food is such good quality and so tasty! I had the Barramundi with polenta and ratatouille which was GF, my friend had the Morrocan lamb and we were both full and very happy with our meals, they didn't take to long to prepare. The atmosphere was really friendly and the live music was a bonus! There was a young guy playing Irish Folk music, we unfortunately had to leave to get to a concert but we would have happily stayed much longer.
