It's a rip off. The quantity doesn't match what it is on the Manuel, and they charge four times higher than the similar restaurants. Don't think any customer would come back. I left with hunger and empty wallet.

Over the last decade, we have been to Tao Tao House on a few occasions. The quality of the food has never disappointed. However our last visit in late November 2023 left us with a bit of a shock. For a party of 7, the bill came up to almost $500! That's $70 per person for yum cha, almost double what it would cost you at an equivalent restaurant elsewhere. What would avoid a 'bill shock' is to have a price for the various dishes on the yum chat ticket marked up each time a dish is ordered. Pure lack of transparency!

Dreaming about my yumcha lunch
: Tao Tao House
: Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn

: Was contemplating whether I should post these horrible iPhone photos I’ve taken (I’m hopeless), but the food here was too good to ignore! I was recommended to try the yumcha here by a friend, and she was so right! I really loved the food here, and service was pretty good too!

: I cannot get over the Fried Glutinous Flour filled with pork. The outside was crispy, yet underneath was super soft and chewy. And I still can’t stop thinking about the perfectly warm, flakey egg tarts that were so creamy and fragrant—GIMME MORE!

Very mediocre quality food for the over expensive prices. Small quantity too. Not impressed after giving the restaurant a good go after a few times try. Yum cha was okay.

4 people,
11 x plates of 3: dumplings, dim sim, etc etc
1 lemon chicken
1 fried icecream
2 teas (tried to charge for 4)

$202.

Food was good, service was good. Price is too HIGH.

I explicitly wanted to go to an old fashioned Chinese place with a group of friends and that's exactly what we got.
Get all the same staples your parents stick to and you won't be disappointed.

Nice fellas that run the place too.

Ordered $30ish sweet and sour pork and literally got 6-7 pieces of meat.
Over-priced and not worth the trip

I love exploring different restaurants and am quite perplexed by how they maintain their business yet with a fairly good rating. Over-priced, tiny portion, below average food. Trust me, not worth a visit.

My recent experience at this restaurant left me thoroughly disappointed. It was disheartening to witness the stark difference in service based on customers' ethnic backgrounds. The waiter seemed to give preferential treatment to the white locals while neglecting Asian faces, including ours. We were ignored and not even served water, while the neighboring table of white locals received attentive service.

Furthermore, the food portion sizes were remarkably small. The taste was equally disappointing, lacking flavor and quality. It was not authentic. To add to the frustration, we were presented with an incorrect bill in an attempt to overcharge us.

I find it unacceptable that such biased service and subpar food are offered at this establishment. I cannot recommend this place due to its discriminatory practices, unsatisfactory portion sizes, and overall poor quality.

I recently visited Tao Tao House for my birthday dinner. The food was cooked well and full of flavor, but the service was unprofessional and the portion sizes were too small for the price.

When we first arrived, the waiter spoke to us in his native language, assuming that we were of the same ethnicity. This was a clear mistake, and it made us feel uncomfortable. We had to ask him to speak to us in English.

The menu was also handed to us in the waiter's native language. We had to ask him to give us an English version, which was a hassle.

The food was good, but the portions were very small. We ordered 5 dishes and the fried rice. All the portion sizes look like it was for one person while there was 6 of us.

For the price I paid, I expected much larger portions. I was left feeling hungry after my meal.

Overall, I was not impressed with Tao Tao House. The service was unprofessional, the portion sizes were too small, and the prices were too high. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

4.4/5
Made to order and may be that why the food is better and more fresh.
Pretty decent dim sum place but it slightly pricier than average.
The chicken feet and beef tribe are better than the one you get from secret kitchen.
The prawn fried donut tobiko cheong fun was surprisingly delicious and the scallop siu mai was so juicy! Fried turnip cake is also good, love the charred crispy bit.
Recommend to come on weekday to skip the lines!
It’s not as noisy which is great!

We dined in for Chinese New Year so the restaurant was quite busy. Ambience was nice and the food came out fairly quick. However the food was very overpriced for the quantity, including the drinks. The fried rice and fried chicken was a bit bland but other dishes were nice.

We’ve come to Tao Tao house many times, usually excellent. However yesterday 12pm Yum Cha was incredibly disappointing. We waited so long for our food to arrive and only when we asked about our order did it arrive immediately, some of it cold. Rude, unpleasant staff, overpriced & below average. So disappointing. The opposite of what we’d come to expect from previous visits. Won’t be coming back.

Had yum cha here this week and food was quite good but expensive for what yum cha items are. Also service is so typical 'cold/ignorant Canton' style.

Definitely overpriced. The whole place feels very pretentious with average yum cha food but insanely expensive menu. We had yum cha billed 240 for four people. Will definitely not come back again it’s just not that amazing to pay that price tag.

Went there for yum cha on a Sunday. Was surprisingly busy, we managed to get the last table available at the time. Just make sure that if possible, you don't take the table right near the front door. Was absolutely freezing whenever the doors were opening and closing.

I rate the food 3.5 stars. There's a good variety of yum cha dishes and food presentation is not bad.

However, we found the taste of the food to be rather average compared to other yum cha places in Melbourne, especially given the prices are not particularly cheap.
