Tanswell's Commercial Hotel reviews
77Ok for drinks when a gig's on. Would definitely skip it if you're looking for something to eat.
Was a great afternoon catching up with friends and family, live music Troy Humphreys and co. Was awesome.
Went to sit down on the tables out the front at 12: 40pm on a Wednesday and before we could go inside, had a bucket of what smelled like dirty water and old beer dumped on us and passers by from the balcony above.
We made a booking a week early and confirmed it on Saturday however when we arrived on the Sunday we were told they were not doing lunches.
Very poor management and very disappointing
A nice old hotel which has that charm that comes from age. The accommodation is very basic as I expected and I had no issue with that hence my rating for various aspects of the hotel. However, having a local band start playing at 8pm and not finish until midnight on a weeknight was unexpected and unpleasant.
I’m a fan of live music, and although I heard more enthusiasm than talent, it also sounded like they were playing in the room next door which was fine for the first couple of hours but as the band worked through their more polished material the singing and playing became strained and there was no chance of sleep.
I’ll probably come back to the hotel again for a meal or a drink in the lovely bar out the front with an open fire, but I definitely won’t be staying there again.
We didn't use the rooms. The restaurant was great and the food superb. Very nice staff.
Amazing food! We had the sourdough, chicken, Angus beef and pumpkin & both desserts! Ignore some of those comments below, there's a reason why the menu states to order a few dishes to share as the meat portions are big so get some veg sides! Will deff be recommending to anyone heading to beachworth!
Awesome old pub with a genuine happy vibe. Ordered the pork belly (which was perfect!) But literally that's all was on the plate. Would recommend ordering a side of veggies or chips etc.
Interesting and tasty food on offer at the Bistro. Friendly staff. Beautiful and cosy dining space. We enjoyed ourselves. Thank you!
Although basic accomodation with shared bathrooms, everything was exceptionally clean and very comfy. Lovely period hotel with open fires, great wine list and food. Fantastic location and friendly staff. Happily come back. Thanks
Comfortable room, at a good price, right above the pub. Cheap pints went down a bit too easily.
Great food. We had sour dough with garlic as a shared entree, I had the fish & chips & son had the pork strap. Delicious food, prompt service by cheerful staff & very reasonable prices.
We didn't stay in a room here, but will next time
Lovely, friendly customer service. The young lady was really talkative towards myself and my daughter while we were being served with a nice, cold glass of lemon, lime and bitters which was really fantastic as we felt comfortable with her.
Do not recommend to dine in. Pretty disappointing experience. Tanswell’s offers no table service which ordinarily is okay in a pub like environment. However, hovering in a crowded walkway for 25 minutes with no direction or signage indicating where to go is not acceptable nor functional. (Keep in mind this is just to order food, one has to order drinks separately at the bar)
It would be easier on staff and patrons for each section to be managed accordingly, considering one is paying restaurant prices.
Rude and indifferent service with some staff. Particularly the female hostess taking orders/bookings in the corridor.
No paper towel in the women’s bathroom. Bathroom doors that don’t lock.
No music or background ambiance until the band started. Put on a playlist.
Tanswells saving grace was a nice male staff member (cap, longer hair and beard). As well as nice country food and decor.
If you’re determined to visit, stick to a drink.
Good place for a meal on a Tuesday night in Beechworth. Haven't been here for over 10 years but it has maintained a great standard of food and service. Exceptional local wine list by the glass but didn't get to try them as I was driving. Standout on the menu was the yabbies as an starter. Decent sized serve and well cooked.
Food & service was absolutely amazing. I booked for dinner as vegan, and the chef made me a “veggie stack” which was bloody amazing! And I didn’t expect them to go above & beyond like that. Thank you! We all loved our food
Didn't stay there, so I can't comment on rooms.
Great atmosphere, nice balcony, great view.
No burgers left, chairs are uncomfortable, bottom of my plate was dirty, food is okay but options are average at best.
Wouldn't recommend.
We ordered a Venison burger and Beef strip loin for dinner. The burger was good and the steak was a little dry but tasted alright. A little bit rough that they charge $3 for sauce on what would have been a too dry a meal.
The burger was cold and the bun stale.salad was nice although there was one walnut in the walnut and beetroot salad.service unfriendly on both occasions l have been here.the only slightly negative l’ve had here in Beechworth visited here on the 11th Jan@7: 30pm and 12th @6: 30pm January 23
