Tan Thanh Loi reviews
53Would have to be one of the best Vietnamese Restaurants in Melbourne! Especially like the Bhan Tam Bi as its rarely available in other restaurants. The Bun & Pho dishes are also fabulous. Always a busy place with many customers but they close at 5pm Sundays so make sure your early on that day. Have been here many times now - can be a bit tight for space but it's because of the popularity.
Update 13/02/24:
Food price has increased slightly, but my rating remains the same. Arguably the best Viet restaurant in Footscray
We came in just after lunch rush time because we saw the restaurant had a long queue for take away, so we thought they must be serving decent meal. Not to our surprise, our expectation has been exceeded. I really enjoyed the pho and grilled pork on vermicelli. The portion is decent and the taste is heavenly.
The serving time is also pretty quick eventhough the restaurant was constantly full during our visit.
Definitely come back to this store again.
They specialize in Vietnamese broken rice (com tam). The servings are generous with all the trimmings, great value ($15.00). The customer service here is non existent, but that's all a part of the Footscray experience. Highly recommend this place for delicious broken rice.
Supermarket food Court had better food, chicken and rice was served cold and had to add chilli sauce to give the food some flavour
Simple menu, affordable price, quick service. Pork was bit dry on separate dining occasions
From today I will stop supporting this business.
I bought a lot takeaways, however their soup dishes always to have much less soup compared to dine in). I casually mentioned it today and i received an attitude from the owner lady, she be like "want more soup pay more money"
Huge portion of Grilled Pork & Broken rice lives up to its reputation Tasty food with reasonable price, definitely a great choice for you to try Vietnamese foods.
Nice beef pho! Probably an authentic Vietnamese local restaurant, having a lot of Vietnamese dining in
Super popular broken rice in Footscray but I seldom eat bcz its quite sweet for my liking.
Their pork chop is special for its smokey flavour although the meat somewhat feels like smaller and thinner than before.
I wish that they would put some fresh chillies on the table so I could put in my fish sauce the complimentary soup was a bit salty for me tho.
Your go to in Footscray for the classic broken rice. The Banh Canh Cua here is also quite good.
The place is usually heaving with lines out the door. The metal tables make you feel like you’re in Vietnam with a lady yelling over crackly microphone that the orders are ready from the kitchen.
I’ve seen previous reviews regarding portion size being small but the amount is sufficient for me.
Very good food, original taste of Vietnam. Affordable price and huge portions.
The place get crowded during lunch and dinner time but it’s acceptable. Would come eat again!
My go to quick Vietnamese lunch of the day if. Staffs are super friendly, great food- grilled pork with broken rice is a must!
I am a semi-regular patron of Tan Thanh Loi, i can do nothing but recommend this place. The front is a bit old but the food and the customer service is anything but. You enter, take a menu and a seat at a clean table and you choose a menu item, before it arrives you get a stanley container full of the most perfectly brewed green tea you’ve ever had, for free too, the food will arrive 3-6 minutes later and it will be perfect. You’ll leave happy and full and only 12-18 $ poorer and for exceptional ‘bang for buck’.
I have returned, and i will continue to do so.
Came to this restaurant since 1993 the food was great but the restaurant very very dirty and I never coming back
We always preferred Grilled Chicken instead of Grilled Pork when ordering broken rice Com Tam because in our opinion chicken is juicier if you like Com Tam this is the place to be - don't let the queue put you off
Popular vietnamese restaurant in Footscray. Famous for their broken rice with pork chops which is pretty good, my favorite.
Other dishes are alright, just so so in taste but very generous in size. Big portions.
Price ranges around $15-17 per dish.
Excellent value for money and some of the best vietnamese food i've had. Great vibes too
This is the best local food in Footscray.
It's my go place for comfort food! Been coming for 5 years! The food is always good and so fresh! Good price! The staff didn't speak English but, the lady always remember me and it's always quick looking at how busy they are. Treat it like going to market for food. I don't expect excellent service for the price point, the food quality exceed it all. In fact it's more than what i paid for. Many places charged higher with not so good customer service nor the food. If you come during lunch time as a group and expect seating, that's bit hard. My best time to go is around 2pm onwards. My favourite food, the crab noodle, spicy beef noodle, beef curry noodle, broken rice or dry vermicelli with pork chop.
My favourite Vietnamese restaurant. I couldn't find any better than here for broken rice.
2023 now they increased price alot. It's not cheap anymore. Bit pricy for broken rice.
This place is super busy but the value for money is awesome and the food is super delicious.
The ingredients were fresh and the meat was super juicy.
15$ per dish - can’t complain about that.
Service was a bit rough and we had to remind them of our drinks twice but other than that a pretty good place to have lunch.
