Sun Theatre Yarraville reviews
45Love love love our local independent cinema. The big name movies with the small town community feel and heart. We regularly see films here and will continue doing so. We recommend this place to anyone we know who comes to Melbourne
I just love this place. So relaxed and that old time cinema feel which has been lost over the years. I feel lucky to be able to visit often.
The Sun Theatre in Yarraville has been on my ‘Melbourne Bucketlist’ for a number of years. When I finally got around to going after lockdown, it was absolutely fantastic! Don’t miss the choc-tops (salted caramel was delicious!). The atmosphere outside the theatre was also very relaxing.
The Sun Theatre still retains it's Arts Deco styling while offering a number of movies at any one time, on multiple levels, each in a small viewing theatre of its own, with large comfortable lounge style seating - we like it as it affords us the luxury of comfortable seating and cuddling capacity.
Snacks and drinks are available just past the ticket office, including a selection of wines (remember to empty your own trash and return the glasses to the counter downstairs.
Multi theatres, current pictures, cheap tickets Mon and Tues.
Suggest strongly to take the train as parking is difficult and streets are very narrow.
Gorgeous little art house cinema in Yarraville. Lots of screens, independent and mainstream releases. Can't recommend highly enough
Had not been in several years. Staff were helpful and did not mind me having to go back several times when I forgot stuff in one of the cinemas.
Gorgeous art-deco era cinema, restored to its former glory! Forget the big chains, make the trek out to see this gem
Very small and crowded however worth the experience. Lovely architecture and the freedom to have a drink.
Sun theater in yarraville it must historic building it's bring yarraville community together the outside setting full of happy people
Staple of my life in the inner west. Never disappoints. Amazing choc tops and wholesome staff. I love this place
Sun Theatre is my top place for movies in Melbourne. Beautifully renovated old cinema with great selection of movies and special events. Amazing cinemas with comfortable seating, community history and announcements are such a treat - it is defiantly the heart of Yarraville.
My Favourite Cinema by Far.
The Sun Theatre is the benchmark by which I measure all other cinemas I visit, few live up to the consistent excellence I've experienced at the Sun.
Some of the reasons I love the Sun Theatre:
- Very reasonable ticket + snack prices.
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- Amazing decor + very comfy seating.
- Almost no pre-show ads (typically a trailer or two and a community newsreel).
- Assigned seating.
- Attracts a well-behaved audience.
- Amazing choc-tops (Tia Maria is a must try flavour).
How it could improve:
- Better management of lines at ticket and candy bar (can get a bit hectic at busy times).
Art Deco splendour, in the heart of Yarraville. Each of the theatres in this cinema pay homage to cinemas from earlier decades in the local area, which are no longer there. This restored grand dame has mostly mainstream (sprinkled with quirky, art house, and foreign) films. Next door in The Sun Bookshop, and within spitting distance are so many cafes and restaurants it's not easy deciding where to eat or have coffee. The Sun is my favourite cinema in Melbourne, and it's close to home - and you can even hold film functions there. Bliss
My absolute favorite movie house - comfy seats take in yoursparkling wine its licenced- woo hoo and where else do you get pina colada choc tops? So much more organic than the big movie chains love it - VIP style without the price
Always a great experience. Nestled amongst Some of the best restaurants in Melbourne, a night out at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville is always a great night out.
Great atmoshpere, confortabe seating, good choice of movies staff pleasant, parking available and good eating venues nearby
Loved it. Great atmosphere. Great seating. Relaxed vibe. Well organised. All round great venue. Did I say great? Haha
Old fashioned theater and is better than the modern cinemas. We love it, comfortable chairs, big variety of chips chocolates ice cream and the best part Me and my hubby enjoy is having some wine while watching our favourite movies.
Old style theatre, very comfortable seats and a relaxing environment. You can enjoy a wine while watching a show. You can book tickets online. It was very busy the day I went but it’s apparently quieter during the week.
