State Theatre reviews
57Went to see An American In Paris, brilliant show to see in this exquisite theatre. Wonderful venue, extremely helpful and friendly staff with a great accessible location.
My only concern about the State Theatre is that the stalls area is a bit of a firetrap. There should be an aisle down the middle of the very long aisle rows. Granted a lot of seats would be lost, but which is more important?
The Bluey Big Play was fun and amazing to watch with the kids they cant stop laughing and dancing with the music that's being played on the show.
Beautiful theatre set right in the famous arts centre of Melbourne, seats are plush and comfortable and for someone who is 6 foot tall I had plenty of leg room in the stalls which was a nice change to my usual experience of being squashed in a seat.
Drinks are standard theatre prices $9-11 for cans of beer or cider (you have to put in a cup before going in and the cups are the exact same quantity so be careful haha) wine and champagne on the other hand seemed fairly pricey from my quick glance.
We saw the Wedding Singer this time around which was also a fun enjoyable show.
My eldest daughter and I saw the ballet Anna Karenina. The music, dance, costumes, performances and atmosphere were all just perfect, and the drinks afterwards were also good.
Went to see the Wedding Singer and it was an amazing experience! The staff were friendly and efficient, the venue was clean and just the whole show experience was fun, respectful and lively!
Went with my two grandsons to see Bluey show. Easy parking underneath.
Very helpful staff showing you where to go.
Much easier than l thought it would be. Grandsons loved the production.
Parking cost $17.00.
I used to work here. 1969. Plenty of talent. Was involved with HAIR. If anyone remembers, please get in touch. Please excuse my Human Rights concerns. It's not just me, it's a cool industry, but has to come to terms with MODERNITY. Your on the other side of the. You have some of the best films. The Brits need to get out of OLDING. It's bad news. MY QUEEN was BARRED by MEN ON MY? Never have I been owned. Scams hippopotamus.
Is a stunning building/venue to visit, I went to the Australian music history section, it's worth a look and walk through at least if you like your music and there's going to be more stuff added slowly I'm told, the central music room in the middle inside has excellent videos on 3 full on sized walls and is a really good experience, the Countdown tv bits and the Sunbury music festival from 72 are presented very well I thought. There's old billboard posters of gigs I went to in the 90's amongst others which is 2 stories high and brought back allot of good memories! There's a small AC/DC clothing and memorabilia section plus several other Aussie bands most music lovers would recognize that are interesting, plus to much more to mention! Check it out if you walking past one day, it's free entry and there's very nice people working there to help with any questions before entry.
The Backstage Tour:
The Arts Centre’s famous spiral is just the tip of an enormous network of underground passages, archives, performance spaces, dressing rooms and offices, extending five floors underground.
The friendly host will tell you stories of famous performers who have tread the boards of the Arts Centre’s theatres since it opened in 1984, and tales of backstage mishaps and urban legends from over the years.
They’ll also give you an insight into the technical aspects of putting on large-scale shows at the State Theatre, which seats 2,079 people and has a ceiling covered with 75,000 tiny brass domes. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to glimpse sets being constructed for upcoming productions.
On our tour a guy had prearranged for some extra excitement by proposing to his partner on the main stage.

Great and we enjoyed a lot the staff work here all are very professional and do their work in a great way.
Love the state theater such a beautiful setting we have watched many ballets here we enjoy the great location with so many restaurants close by.
Poor access for elderly, no assistance to seats for elderly, I went on a Wednesday matinee no room for
People to sit and eat if you didn't have a booking, the small 'cafe' ran out of sandwiches and cost for 2 small bowls of potato gems/ 6 chicken bites and 1 bottle of water ridiculously over priced $30. What a rip off. Would not go back
Beautiful theatre, staff are great helpful. Only thing I found lacking was the food and the pricing of it, there wasn't much choice for food and what they did have prices (I found) were over priced
I attended an evening session musical. I had never been there and had no idea where to go. The ushers were friendly and helpful, seating was comfortable, it was clean and not too hot or cold inside.
Just a great place with good entertainment although drinks are over priced and some bar staff less than helpful
Enjoyed Chicago last week, very comfortable seating with seats in the middle. Of course never enough toilets when the whole theatre has an interval or the show has finished. Enjoyed the facilities re: drink or ice cream
Great venue except the seats.they the most uncomfortable seats causing back pain.many people around me were complaining of this too
Saw Chicago here, seats are a bit squishy and annoying if you are sitting on the aisle. But the theatre itself is great. Good vibes and great experience.
Our cultural place. Love this place. A must see for visitors, even if you just walk through and see the costumes and the exhibition. Add a show, too. Fabulous!
