Space Hotel

Check in was fast and easy. The staff are friendly and helpful, and are eager to advise about things to see & do, and where to find bars, restaurants, etc.

The hostel is exceptionally clean everywhere. The dorms, toilets, kitchen, lounge, gym (yes, they have a gym!), lifts, and halls are all well maintained. They are strict about noise at night, so you can sleep very peacefully.

They have a range of cool features that differentiate them from the other hostels. These include:
Rooftop area with a spa pool & exceptional view of the Melbourne skyline, especially at night
Drinks preparation area on each floor for filling water bottles, making coffee / tea, so you can do those close to your room and do not need to go to the kitchen
Wooden lockers right next to the beds which are big and quiet (no clanging metal doors)
Full length mirror in the dorm
Wheelchair lift for the stairs at Reception, and lifts to all levels.

Security is fantastic with electronic locks and key card access for each room, main front door at night, and also the door from Reception into the guest area.

The dorms are spacious, with large lockers, 2x power sockets, large shelf for devices, and a light at each bed. There is also a good aircon in the room which is a blessing in the summer. The dorms have a full length mirror and rubbish bin as well. The beds are steel framed bunks, but they are solidly constructed and barely creak. The beds are comfortable and the linen is clean and fresh.

Showers have these huge rainstorm type heads, and the water pressure is great. Body wash is provided in wall-mounted dispensers, and each wash room has a shower, toilet, & basin. There are also other facilities that have toilet & basin only.

Location is very good. It is on the edge if the CBD, and is a very short easy walk to the free tram stop. Melbourne city is nearly flat and easily walkable, and the free trams help with getting around, although you'll probably find it's faster to walk. Despite being so close to the city buzz, inside is quiet and chilled, so relax and sleep in peace.

The only problem I found was that the WiFi requires sign in each time it reconnects, it does not auto-reconnect after initial sign in. Be aware, so you don't use precious mobile data thinking you're on WiFi. That is a failure that is very easy to fix.

Overall, this is a great place and will be my go-to for future visits to Melbourne.

I stayed at Space with Welcome to Travel, it was a wonderful time. Great location, easy to walk to places or use the tram. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. Large kitchen space to use. Reception staff was very helpful. Highly recommend staying at Space.

I loved my stay at space but the guy who checked me in told me to just store my stuff in the luggage room where as everyone else was just getting pre check ins. Kathy and maren made great recommendations and and went out with me so I love them so great

The staff and facilities are great, rooms adequate, but do not consider staying here if sleep is on your agenda. I write this at 12.40am, music reverberating through my bed. I am told I can expect it to stop in about 20 minutes, by which time I can look forward to about 4 hours of sleep.

I stayed at Space with Welcome to Travel. Welcome to Travel seriously sorted us out with this, putting us in a spacious 6 bed room with a bunch of other new backpackers. Space was exceptionally clean (cleanong bathrooms 5 times a day), always had helpful staff on the counter (with free fruit) and plenty of little things going on around the hostel. The rooftop view is also pretty great, any time of the day.

Happy to recommend to those new to travelling or expeienced.

So glad I picked this hostel! - Was tossing up between here or Flinders and decided Space and damn am I glad. I enjoyed the location, the rooftop views, the cleanliness, the people! And the amenities (movieroom, gym and the spa when the sun came out!) Will 100% be back. Special thanks to all the legend staff - Alyanna, Reece and true gentleman cleaning man Aran! The service of this place is great. Even in the middle of the night they did everything they could for my special request. Especially Maren was very helpful and took that extra step for the customer.

Booked a single room for 10 days. The room itself is fine, and the shared bathroom is par for the hostel course. Main issue with the stay was the complete lack of WiFi for half my stay. Initial response was to offer a discounted SIM. Management eventually refunded 1 night. When WiFi was fixed, my room was too far from an access point to get connection. Was offered a new room but by that point I’d purchased the SIM to have any sort of connectivity in the hostel. Half the dryers were inoperable during part of my stay because of what seemed like fire damage. The staff were all very nice, and the location is a good middle ground between CBD and Collingwood. Rooftop view is amazing.

Had a week long trip in Melbourne over the Easter holiday period. We booked for a 4 bed-room semi private room, but due to circumstances was not feeling comfortable staying in the room. The staff downstairs assisted us an upgraded us to a twin room for a really good discount. The rooms were actually surprising good for what other hostels are like. The facilities that were provided were well kept and clean. Only issue we had was not having room in the fridges to put our cold food items.
Best part of it was the rooftop, the views were amazing and beautiful to study.
Would stay again for sure.

I stayed at Space with Welcome to Travel! Beside the wifi not working during my stay, I honestly couldn’t fault this place! It was clean and tidy, comfy beds with great size lockers. The showers were nice and hot with good pressure and it was nice you had a little full bathroom each instead of seperate toilets and showers which meant you had plenty of space! The communal facilities were good with having a cinema room, lounge, roof top (with hottub), large kitchen and dining area, gym. So you had a lot includes into the cost of your stay. Would definitely stay again and it would of been 5* if the wifi worked!

We had booked last minute on new years eve after our original booking with another hotel was canceled. We were booked in straight away by staff and given our room. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the overall vibe at the hotel was amazing both guests and staff were very friendly and respectful. I'd like to mention that the manager hue was extremely helpful in sorting out our last minute booking and everything we needed thru out the stay the staff and Hugh (manager) were extremely attentive and helpful. Will not be going to another hotel in Melbourne, Space hotel will be our go to from now on.

I enjoyed my 5-night stay at Space. Great facilities, lovely treetops and city view outside the room, friendly team of people running reception and even the other guests seemed friendly. For sure, Space has an uplifting atmosphere <-see what I did there

After staying at hostels like Flinders backpackers and the village Melbourne, I genuinely believe space hotel is the best hostel here in the city. Not that it was something exceptional but the bad hostels here in Melbourne has me appreciating every little thing fr!

My experience was positive. Everything was proper, it was was clean everywhere, the rooms have nice cabinetry and decent space to move around, and you can control the temperature as well. The bathrooms were very nice and spacious. They have a cosy movie room, a gym (with horrible lighting tho) and they have a jacuzzi as well which I never found the time to use. The interior is nice and bright. The kitchen is very nice in my opinion they have all the utensils and equipments you will need. The reception is available 24/7. The crowd was very nice too there!

Negatives - They make you change rooms a lot sometimes, I had a mildly unpleasant experience w 2 of the receptionists. They double book a lot by accident too and I had to face some last minute troubles because if that. Not every floor has open windows for air circulation. Trams were a bit far but the view is very pretty of the location around.

The price is the standard price you find here in Melbourne for hostels. I will definitely not mind staying here again at all. Definitely an ideal ‘hostel’.

I stayed at Space with Welcome to travel and its been one of the best hostels I've stayed at yet! The facilities were stunning and the staff and service were top notch! Big shout out to Simon for making the stay memorable!

Very clean hotel, Queen rooms are big with comfortable bed, good size window shutters and TV. Big bathrooms and clean and great facilities (jacuzzi on rooftop, gym, cinema room, lounge and big kitchen on the 4th floor.
Very well located, close to all amenities.

If you want to have a really good time in Melbourne then go for Space hostel / hotel. I would love to visit here again & the most best part of this hostel is this really helpful girl at the reception who gave me a few tips on what to do in Melbourne her name is Lisa:) ️?
