South of Johnston reviews
66 Everything about this place is fantastic. The food, the service, the atmos.
Love it.
Great coffee and great brunch options. Delivery of food is very fast and high quality at the same time. Service is incredibly welcoming and friendly. I always enjoy being here!
Been here 3 times now and the food is always delicious and love the vibe of the place.
The only thing that has put my husband and I off each time we have come has been the the barista guy with the earring.he is utterly cold and rude (upon arrival and departure - greeted us like we were a nuisance and in the way, and when he was ringing up our order, we asked to purchase some of the cakes they had on display and it honestly felt like "how dare we").
We even witnessed him being completely condescending to one of his co-workers who was just asking him a question about seating customers.
He really needs an attitude adjustment/ to be behind the scenes (not front and centre at the coffee machine) or perhaps better yet, a job that doesn't deal in customer service
I couldn't bring myself to give the business any stars lower than 5 because of an arrogant employee, but management should really address this issue, as others may not be inclined to do the same.
Keep up the great work South of Johnston (except for barista guy- do better, be better)
Always amazing! Fantastic coffee, perfect tea, the most delicious food and epic service. Wish this was my local.
Consistently Excellent service and food. The regular popular dishes like the corn fritters and chilli omelette are consistently good. Coffee is also excellent and prices are reasonable for a cafe like this. An institution of Collingwood and the hipster brunch experience generally - Would recommend for tourists and locals alike.
Always great food, service and atmosphere. I always bring out of towner friends and family here!
The food was very nice and tasty. The ambience is also very good. The food is served in good portions. This place is usually crowded during lunch hours. I found the service a bit slow. The staff is very welcoming and friendly.
Had the $19 steak sandwich which was nice, steak was a bit thick for a sandwich and didn’t come with fries, they were an extra $9.
SOJO is my neighbourhood favourite.
Excellent service, style, menu. The best Chilli eggs and Corn Fritters in town. Quality every time!
5 stars
Spacious and stylish venue. The place smells lemony (or orangy) which makes the experience very pleasant. Very attentive staff as well. Coffee was good, will try the cakes next time.
So close to work yet I hadn't tried it before, to be honest I don't even know how long it has been there, but I tried their steak sandwich on Wednesday for lunch and it was fabulous. I couldn't fault it even a little, the bread, the steak, the quantity of ingredients, all exactly what I was after.
Very cosy breakfast place, open fire, great staff. Excellent choice for breakfast and superb coffee.

Love this place and keep
Coming back.
We came in for breakfast on a Sunday which was super super busy but the staff were so lovely and welcoming and we found a seat.
We had the pancakes with bacon which were tasty and the oats porridge which I was very glad it didn’t have stone fruits (due to my dietetics) and they were able to make it with soy milk and with maple syrup so it’s vegan. So delicious too.
Hot chocolates were yummy and a great vibe overall.
Beautifully presented food. Interesting and inspiring menu. Had to wait for a table but we’ll worth the wait.
I had the tuna melt and all the flavours were off-balance. It was waaaay to salty, most likely due to the 50 or so capers in the sandwich, which is excessive. The tuna mix was dry and bland. The pickles (gherkins) were few and far between. My dining companions seemed to enjoy their meals (salmon salad and baked beans).
The staff were friendly and food came out promptly. It's a pity my meal was ruined by over seasoning.
4 year anniversary in Aus and where do we come for brunch? Never anything but brilliant here- setting, service, food and coffee all spot on. Love it
If you manage to secure the couch beside the fire you know you are set for a great day.
Melbourne breaky institution with a classic food menu and exciting cocktail list.
Amazing outside area for a nice sunny day
Gorgeous place, lovely experience! Great coffee and delicious interesting food! I chose to sit outside on a wet Melbourne day as the place was full All staff were so warm and friendly fussing to make sure I had blankets and was comfortable Will definitely be back
Fabulous brunch cafe. I took the tram out on a Friday and they were very accommodating. The food was creative and well prepared with lots of interesting options. Coffee was solid and fresh juice was welcome. It has a warm, fancy vibe with generous indoor and outdoor seating which is pleasant as it’s surprisingly quite there. Defiantly recommend to try for a change from Brunswick or Smith street crowds.
