South Melbourne Market Dim Sims reviews
53I was looking for Dim Sum but then found DimSim. Easy delicious bite if you’re a hungry around the market and don’t want hipster food. You can try both the friend and the steamed version and spice it up with some of the sauces available. $10 for two and a drink.
Iconic meat filled dumplings served fried or steamed
Shop's name may sound like a cheeky misnomer, but do bring your friends here for the culture. Partake in the joy of mystery meat stuffed fried pastries in all its glory.
A tad salty, but the grease fixed everything
Lots of sauces and condiments to help it go down easier
Had 2 fried original dim sims.
I enjoyed it, But they are very salty, and made me very thirsty (msg side effect)
Dropped in for dim sims & potato cakes the past 3 weeks, always get hot fresh Dimmies & Potato Cakes, cooked perfectly
Look forward to my next visit
So salty…
Also the cashier isnt very focusing her job or a racist
She doesnt care about me who was standing and looking at her but saying hello to another guy who came later than me.
Even the service is horrible
If it tastes good, i would have came a lot more but itis too salty
I've eaten these for 50 + years. Sent frozen eskys to Q/Land. Syd. Etc. A Melb thing. Like Andrews Hamburgers?
I think you either love it or you wonder what all the fuss is about. Very popular with the locals, expect long queues on the weekend. Dim Sims are larger than average in size, available fried or steamed. Was originally beef only, but now they have chicken as well. Make sure you're not cutting queue by just heading up to the counter, the line is behind the walking traffic path. 1.1% surcharge on cards. Friendly service.
Best dim sims I have ever had! They have been in business for a long time and always have a high standard.
I think the quality has dropped a lot for the dim sims. The skin for the fried one wasn't eatable. It was so hard and tough. The steam one was slightly better. The meat inside is so-so, quite dry.
It's a pitty they don't sell these dim sims in every fish and chip shop OMG they are the absolute best dim sims you will ever eat. I could live on these things.
I've been coming here for years, ever since the old boy passed the dim sims and sprig rolls have changed. Casing dim sim are too hard and miss the pepper in them. Today the spring rolls where terrible. Short and stumpy way too much filling for my liking. When you have a good thing going, don't change it. Hopefully it was a off day.
I don't usually like Dim Sims but these are great and it's not too salty. I've passed this shop many times over the years but never tried it until recently, im glad I finally tried it
Went to the Preston Market store and waited for it to open but sign said "No Spring Rolls" It was Saturday morning, a very busy day at the market, one of the few days they are open yet no spring rolls. They only sell 2 items (they do sell processed potato cakes) their famous Dim Sims and Spring Rolls yet on a busy day they didn't have any. I love them thats why i was so disappointed and surprised
Huge dim sims at $3.50 ea. They were delicious, definitely recommend if you do come to South Melbourne market.
I have been having these beauties, dim sims and spring rolls since 1972!
On average few times a year!
Always very enjoyable, they have changed the original recipes a bit but still the best around! Impressive performance!
These are the best dimsims I have ever had and the spring rolls are amazing not to mention the outstanding customer service. If I had to say one thing against this place is that they don't tell you how huge the food is, besides that it's devine.
Our local takeaway sell south Melbourne dim Sims which are tasteless rubber. (instead of the usual marathon ones which are delicious and crispy). I can only guess the Melbourne ones are cheaper.
The original and the best. The extremely busy staff are always friendly and efficient. Their potato cakes are some of the best in Melbourne as well.
Good dim sum but not happy with the grumpy Asian lady who served me. Charged me xtra dollar for a stereo foam box. While others got it free (instead paper bag) the worst is she didn’t tell me about it, just charge and expect you ok with that, principal
This shop got famous for a reason, their dim sims used to be incredibly tasty, crispy pastry, meaty fillings and the lines were out to the road. Nowadays the pastry is reminiscent of cheap dim sims from any run of the mill takeaway that have been sitting to long, the filling seems like it has been stretched with filler and there doesn't seem to be any difference between the pieces of meat anymore, just one big ball of mush wrapped in a stiff pastry. Another once succesful restaurant ruined by greediness.
