Smokey Jake's Neighbourhood BBQ reviews
72Ordered $10 mac and cheese. Received fusili pasta with some melted cheese mixed in. Absolutely pathetic.
First time takeaway order, Cheesy Grits were on point, the Biscuits and gravy were smashing, the Lil Rascals hit the spot, the Gypsy Burger found its mark (just found the patty a little on the big side) and the batter on the Lil Ribs was F&$cken Spectacular. Fifth star is for the service and the spiced popcorn. Would certainly recommend and will most definitely be a return customer
After reading such great reviews and seeing an awesome score, I was bitterly disappointed with the food. I've competed in BBQ Competitions, have a BBQ Youtube channel and have eaten BBQ around the States, so know great BBQ. I ordered the Brisket, it was around 3mm thick and looked like it had been cut on a meat slicer, which you wouldn't be able to do with a well smoked Brisket. It tasted of nothing. It was more like sliced roast beef. I also had the Texas sausage, which was ok but nothing to write home about. Finally I had the Mac and cheese, this seemed like it was macaroni with cheese grated on top, with cubes of bread. No real Mac cheese sauce to speak of. It was served in a cast iron skillet and a lot of fat was left in the bottom after I finished the Mac and cheese.
I must admit I struggled to write this as I don't like to give negative feedback but when the ratings are higher than Redgum and Bluebonnet, I was expecting great BBQ but was left disappointed. Pricing wise it was great but I'd rather pay more and have better BBQ.
Enjoyable meal. Plenty of smoked meat options to choose from. Nice local beer list too. Friendly staff. Food was a little slow to come out was my only small gripe.
5 stars for the food quality without a doubt. Highly recommend.
1 star less due to mismanagement of staff. Management, for a Friday night, you should have more staff. Jason was half dizzy walking up and down the joint attending customers orders and he was helped by the chef! Good staff is hard to find and they can make or break you - Jason did a mighty fine job Friday night.
Really tasty food. The night we came it was quiet, but that didn't stop us enjoying our food and talking to the owner about the food.
Friendly service, very expensive for what you actually receive, won't return. 1 person from our group enjoyed it and he was a returning customer, just not for me I guess.
I was lusting after some great BBQ and couldn't wait to try a local restaurant. To explain this experience in one word - "disappointing"
One beef rib $20+ and when it came it was basically luke warm.
The salad was filled with undercooked beans.
The atmosphere and service lacked any positive vibe at all.
. The food was very ordinary.
Unfortunately won't be back unless something significant changes
Love this place. We love the food and the beers - one of a few local places that have a range of local brewery beers on the menu. The courtyard garden is a relaxed place to have a meal with our young family. The team here is friendly and helpful and happy to accommodate.
Lunch in the beer garden today. Pork and beef rib were excellent as were the chips. Friendly staff and a great place for a couple beers out the back.
If your mate threw a barbie like Jake's you'd be raving on about it for years and would always accept the invite for the next one.
Top quality food! Great for groups, lots of choices of share plates and all reasonably priced! Plenty of great local beers on the menu, too.
So next time you're having a get together, instead of burning the steaks and serving raw chicken, just take them to Jake's instead!
Today had a takeaway from Smokey Jake's. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was very delicious, and the price is reasonable given the quality of the food & service. Highly recommend it!
Ordered 500 grams of brisket, 12 Chicken wings with a side of Mac and cheese.all were exceptional.especially the chicken wings.can highly recommend
The pork ribs were tender and flavourful and the burnt ends went over a treat. However, the brisket was on the dry side and the biscuits were a disappointment as they were stodgy and overly crumbly. I'd definitely order again just for the ribs though!
Really good BBQ, even now I can still taste the yummy smokey favour from the Brisket and Pork ribs. We saw this place while driving and live near by so thought we'd give it a go, Excellent customer service. We ordered a platter style and kinda wish we got an extra side as serving size overall was a little small but that's on us. The sides we got were pickled veg whixh was great and the slaw - the slaw was the more traditional southern style not the best, I would of much preferred (and expected) a more mayo style to go with all the smokey since the pickled already has a huge vinger base, we didn't really eat this at all.
But that Pork Rib.my gosh, very well cooked. Would of definaitly ordered more if we knew it was going to be that good!
Ordered takeaway Beef and Bean Chili (spicy). One spoon and it just burned my mouth. Seems like just paste of chilli. Not edible at all. I am Indian origin and quite used to chilli. But this one was just unbearable hot. Sorry totally disappointed.
Lunch was amazing, burnt ends, thighs and lamb. The holy Trinity. Don't sleep on this place! Thank you again Smokey jokes for a brilliant experience
A combination of amazing food, friendly service and great atmosphere.
If you haven't tried this place yet - add it to your list!
10/10
Tasty food and great service. Went their for dinner and tried the brisket. The customisation idea of the menu is fantastic.
Lovely dinner at Smokey Jake’s Neighbourhood BBQ tonight. First time. Our platter was pretty rounded: brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, chicken ribs, bacon, burnt ends, mac and cheese, and cauliflower. The brisket was a bit dry for my taste but the burnt ends were spot on. The ribs and everything else were really smoky and delicious. All up, a great meal and really good value for money.
