Simply THE best chicken takeaway in Australia. The chicken is always cooked to perfection and the chips are seasoned just right whilst being crunchy and tasty. These guys never disappoint, I have been coming here for years and they are always consistent. The prices are cheap as well! Great bang for buck. Do yourself a favour and try them out.

Chicken was very tasty and juicy, chips were well seasoned and salads were delicious too. Half chicken n chips with medium salad. My meal was $19.50 all up, worth every cent!

Best chicken around. Always fresh as he never lets them sit there so always crispy skin, juicy inside. Chips are amazing and Sachin is fantastic. Long time customer and will keep going back. Love it. Don’t bother buying chickens and making them at home, by the time you cook it, dishes etc it’s not worth it.these are 50 times better.

Great local business! Chips are a highlight - think delicious herb seasoning and chicken salt on perfectly battered chips. So good!

Cannot go wrong with Smokey Chooks. Food is great, prices reasonable and the owner is a good man. Would recommend to anyone wanting to go back to the basics of chicken, chips and relaxation. Never stop making those chips!

I can absolutely say, hands down, this is the best charcoal chicken and chips in Melbourne. I’ve lived in Melbourne my whole life and never found better tasting chicken and better salted and flavoured hot chips. I recently took my in-laws who were visiting from Ireland and they said it’s the best meal they had in Australia (we took them to lots of expensive restaurants). The cheapest meal they had turned out to be their favourite haha.
Definitely recommend this place. Owned by a husband and wife, lovely service and great people. Enjoy:)

We have been coming here for a good year now for there delicious juicy chickens and the best seasoned chips ever! They also do a great serve of roast veggies for that 'healthy side'. Top quality charcoal chickens here!

I estimate that I have eaten a quarter chicken and chips every week here for the last 5 years. That is 260 quarter chickens. Or 65 entire chickens. And each and every one of them has been nothing short of delicious. Thanks Sachin!

Just awesome. Usually we only get chips, and they are so yummy. The renovation certainly improved the store as well (better ventilation).

Excellent service and freshly made chickens. Well priced and satisfying meal. Orders the full chicken and medium fries, was more than enough for 2 of us, so some left overs for tomorrow.and get the chicken gravy, was so so good. Place was nice and clean and the own super friendly and welcoming. Will come back again!

Why go to the supermarket when you can find freshly made chicken with tasty salads at Smokey Chooks. The service is excellent and very welcoming.

Simply the best chicken and service you can find. Add perfectly salted crispy chips and delicious salads and you get a suite of loyal customers that refuse to go elsewhere for a charcoal chicken.

Chicken = Amazing
Chips = Incredible
Service = Below Average

Would have been 5 stars if they knew what service was. I come here often and there is always an issue with my requests (which arent outrageous)

Example:
I wanted a whole chicken, cut into quarters and have half then and take the other half home for my partner/the next day. I was told that they would do it this time but next time, they would have to charge extra. Kept mentioning that she needed to keep costs down. What costs? The plate that I return after I’ve dined in? It didn’t make sense. I literally wanted to eat half the chicken there and then take the rest home but this was a problem and couldn’t get an answer why.
If they eliminated these little negatives it would be great but Sachin and his wife seem so concerned with making every cent/dollar possible at the expense of service and having repeat customers. All the reviews are accurate from a flavor perspective and there is no charcoal chicken in the area so they have cornered a market but if they just added a little bit more service, friendliness and an accommodating manner it would be 5 stars all the way which is a shame.

Been waiting for a good quality charcoal chicken joint in Richmond for ages and finally it’s here. Chips are out of this world as well

Love this quick little spot to grab some roasted chicken. The veg and potatoes are good as well plus they have outdoor seating to sit with our dog.
