Chef Stefan and the team at Small French Bar run a lovely intimate bistro, it's almost as if you are a guest in their home. Delicious food and welcoming atmosphere. A local treasure.

An absolutely glorious experience! I was transported to Paris through the incredible food and unique atmosphere. The open kitchen, friendly staff and incredible food make this place so special. Do yourself a favour and drop in for the 4 course set menu.

First visit since pre-Covid times - cosy, small & friendly - traditional, honest, robust, tasty French food. Good wine choices (French) to accompany the set menu on the Sat.night. Strongly recommend!

Great food, wine and genuine hospitality. The duck confit & the chocolate fondant dessert were sensational.

Upon enquiring about booking a table the restaurant, we were advised that restaurant has 2 seating option, 6pm and 8pm. We chose the 6pm session thinking that 2 hours was plenty of time for dinner.

We arrived at 6pm and was sat down and handed some menus. 15 or so minutes later they waitress came back to take our order. We wanted the 4 course menu but was then advised that this was not available and we can only order from the A le carte page. Not sure why we were not told this as we sat but it wasn't a big problem. During the meal I asked about matching a wine with my main course. The waitress had no idea and just asked if I wanted the house red. She looked confused so I just accepted. It was the end of the evening that was the most disappointing. After I finished my steak the waitress promptly took away my plate and returned with the bill. I asked her about the dessert menu but she advised that there was a booking at 7: 30 and we had to leave. She did offer to give us our dessert outside in the cold but we declined.

In summary, the service was poor, the food was good. Willing to overlook at the issue with the service until we were asked to leave. I thought we had the booking until 8pm as per the email that we received as we were booking. No mention of the start that it was a 90 minute seating.

We did the the a la carte and it was a night of great food and wine. Stefan and his crew made sure we had a great night and can't wait to go back again and try the other items on the menu. Definitely recommend!

This was probably the sixth or seventh time we went to Small French Bar and I am always so grateful for the delicious dishes, the wonderful parfait, the crunchy baggette and the wonderful creme brulee. Having Stephan with his amazing hospitality coming to our table, having a quick and warm chat about the position we share for good food and wine, is really the best! Thanks Small French Bar team, we had a blast last night! Angelica and Reuben. (and our friends who had dinner with us, are now your newest fans)!

Good atmosphere and food is nice. Staff is friendly. We enjoyed our dinner and will come back again.

We had a beautiful evening at Small French Bar! It was intimate, no-frills and Chef Stefan's food was amazing, of course. We sat at the bar where we could chat and watch him work. We were so impressed with his passion for great food. Highly recommend!

It was like a dream! We thought everything was perfect. Loved seeing Stefan create his dishes right in front of us in the very small French bar/kitchen. Each dish we had was excellent. The service was fabulous & the overall ambience relaxed, comfortable & friendly. We will return to try the rest of the menu. We love the small menu & wine selection.

Authentic French cuisine in Footscray is so rare that's impressive. It's a small and boutique restaurant and you just know, you will get the French deal.

My husband and I loved every bit of the food that we ordered (we got the 3 courses meal). Compliment it Chateau Du Grand Puch Bordeaux Superieur 2017 red wine, it was oui!

Prices are reasonable. Staff are so friendly and they know what they are talking about.

We have been going to the SFB since it opened. This weekend was our anniversary (32yrs) which we celebrated at the SFB with a seven course Dégustation. The SFB is a small, intimate French bistro with a Parisian feel. Stefan, the Chef and owner is charming and dishes up the most terrific meals accompanied with glorious French wines. We are BIG fans of Stefan and his bistro and have already planned out next visit.

A complete sensory experience. Warm cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, incredible food. Will go back again. Can't recommend enough!

When you walk through the door you are transported to a little bistro in Paris, even though you are in the centre of cosmopolitan Footscray. The menu is small but exceptional. Luca can suggest wines to suit your taste, Stefan dishes up the most incredible duck parfait. Fantastic service, I almost don’t want to give it a good review in case we can’t get a table in the future.

Cosy surroundings and bustling with other diners. Delicious food delivered without fuss with wines that complimented the food splendidly. My cassoulette was so satisfying that I couldn’t fit in dessert. The ratatouille was tasty and the potatoes were so good we ordered two serves. A few more soft furnishings might bring the noise down a bit but it was part of the charm of the evening too. Will definitely return frequently. Yum.

Only called in for a quick red & dessert but was very impressed with a Small French Bar. As the name implies it’s very compact but packs quite a punch with an interesting French wine list & accompanying fare. SFB comes highly recommended as does booking ahead to avoid disappointment.

I visited SFB again last week (29/2) and was suitably impressed with the back of house. The culinary offerings coming off the pass were superb, but sadly the overall experience was let down by front of house with curt and apathetic service. I would now very much think twice before returning to spend my hard earned: - (

The food and service were wonderful, we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience and we'll definitely return and recommend this lovely cafe/bar.

Dined here over the weekend and cannot recommend this little establishment highly enough. Perfect example of when the little things are done perfectly, the experience is pleasurable.
