Small French Bar reviews
73A hidden gem in Footscray! My partner and I have been here several times and we love the food here. Super hearty meals that are packed full of flavour. Must try the steak & potatoes that's topped with pate. So yummy and I highly recommend this restaurant
Really enjoyed my meal at Small French Bar. The Filet Rossignol was a favourite and the roast potatoes were cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.
Always outstanding! The food, the service absolute quality. Thank you for making every experience amazing!
It is and will always be my favorite French restaurant! The atmosphere is amazing, feels like we’re in France and the chef is the best! Love it so much.
We have been here a number of times since moving back to Melbourne. The food and atmosphere is amazing. You would think that you’re in a little restaurant in Paris. Staff are lovely, providing excellent service and advice on the wines available. French food done very well! We will be back!
Had higher expectations for such a pricey restaurant with a high rating online! Found the food quite salty and the beef pie was unpleasant. Staff are lovely but wouldn’t return unfortunately.
Nice little restaurant. Very small menu, typical french fare for tourists, however serving lettuce with duck leg and potatoes is not french or acceptable. Why not have aspargus or beans? The beef tender and tasty, duck a little overcooked. The wines are overpriced, cheapest Red was $60. You need to have cheaper options, for occasional drinkers. Only one beer available, also not acceptable in a cafe/bar. Finally, the coffee machine was not working, so a walk down the street to the french baguette for a hot delicious capuchino.
We recently celebrated my wife's birthday with a quite dinner at the SFB by enjoying terrific food and great wine. It was great to see Stefan and team busy and the SFB buzzing with happy customers.
We have been regular customers and great fans of the Small French Bar since it was first opened, often taking friends to dine with us. Chef Stefan and his friendly team run a lovely intimate bistro that is a local treasure. My personal weakness is the eye fillet, pate, and duck fat potatoes. Ken & Michelle.
I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday with my gorgeous Sisters at the Small French Bar. A little gem tucked away in Footscray. Thank you to Stefan for a scrumptious night of French food, French wine, French music, French accent and a real French man. An absolute experience.
Really beautiful and simple French food. Try not to eat much before you go, as it's very provincial French and filling! Small restaurant so be prepared to be shoulder to shoulder with your other diners but this adds to the experience.
Absolutely delicious! Went for dessert and can't wait to go for dinner. Intimate setting, really cosy, just loved it! An awesome gift
Had the mignon fillet steak with pate and truffle butter as well as a beef pie. They were both phenomenal. Felt like a fine dining experience but the prices were very reasonable. My new go to for Footscray.
Came all the way from eastern suburbs and it's worth it! Welcomed with a cosy, homey vibe by wonderful people, sat at the bar and felt comfortable conversating with the chef and staffs.everything was on point! Crepe was an elevated classic, duck leg confit was tender yet texture was there, a glass of gamay recommended by the staff was a good pair.dessert! Apple sorbet with the apple liqeur, a refreshing and just the perfect ending.parking was not extremely difficult on a saturday but spare time to go through the city, depends on which way you coming, is suggested!

Simple tasty French cuisine with a fabulous wine list, great service and exceptionally reasonable prices. Took us a while to get a reservation, however, the wait was worth it!
Footscray has many hidden gems and this is one of them. Chef Stefan hails from Nice and you can enjoy French Mediterranean cuisine and wine in this cosy little escape from the outside world.
Our return to SFB left us nothing short of satisfied and more in love with the food and the whole experience. Stefan has come back stronger than ever and was the perfect host. We cant wait to go back soon! Well done Stefan)

Great little place. Genuine French
hospitality. Has changed from a restaurant into a wine bar that serves food. Still a great atmosphere and the rillette is delicious.
Where French people go to eat French food. Find a cosy table and delve into a hearty dish or sit at the kitchen bar and graze on charcuterie. The chicken liver pate is worth coming for alone. Stefan is a great cook and makes everyone welcome.
