Simon's Peiking Duck Chinese Restaurant reviews
64We came for the duck and received it in flying colours! It was beautifully tender and crispy at once!
Best peking duck in Melbourne.
I find that the quality in terms of crispness of skin is inconsistent.
Regardless, it's still the best peking duck and i will return and support them when I'm craving duck. After all, they specialise in it:)
Very very very bad customer service! As a chinese, i dont think this is the authentic pecking duck!
Dreams really do come true when I visit this place. Best duck and every day becomes the best day of my life when they have a duck available for me.
The duck was delicious with super crispy skin, as was the duck soup and duck with home-made noodles. Service was also really good. Great experience all round.
Really juicy and crispy roast duck. Peking duck is one of my favourites and Simon's knows how to do it well. Great legacy left behind.
Great food and services. But they are ripping customer with 3% bank fee for using bank card payment. There is no way the bank will charge 3% for card merchant fee. Dishonest entrepreneur.
Very bad stuff there is named Joel, very bad attitude to the customers, even on the phone. What an ill mannered shop. Don’t recommend this restaurant at all.
I went there today with my 5 year old son for lunch at around 1pm. I was shocked that was dumbfounded that we were turned away, the reasons giving by the boss being that I didn't make a booking! The restaurant only had 4 guests (2 tables). New covid rules stated that up to 150 vacinated people can dine indoors!
Service is good. Takeaway the peking duck set which includes noodles and soup.
Even lockdown can still enjoy crispy peking duck roll. Scrumptious.
One of the best peaking duck experience ever. I am your regular client as long as you keep up the good work. Worth the money
Favourite place to have Peking Duck. Probably a good thing that it is quite a hike for me to get to otherwise my cholesterol would be worst than it already is. The duck skin is crispy, the fat is rendered out, the pancakes are thin, and I always get the crispy egg noodle option because I love crispy noodles. The soup is not the best as it has an MSG taste, but I'm not really there for the soup so I don't mind. One duck between two plus noodles will get you really full, or one duck between three if you're not such a big eater. I have tried other dishes on the odd occasion with friends, but nothing stands out. If it was up to me I would only get the duck.
Whoever wants to make you night to a joke, please go as you won’t be disappointed. As it can only be worse than whatever you can possibly expect!
You will be served by a group of rude people and very dry meat!
The only good thing is, you do not have to spend too much time on choosing the food from menu. They are very smart to make the menu very simple for customers by only have one thing on menu to choose, nothing else available at all! Seriously, no kidding, absolutely nothing else on menu at all!
Everyone should go there and have a great experience! Then you will find any other place is a good place to go.
Did.not.disappoint! Pre-lockdown, bustling Saturday night - best Peking duck I've had outside of Beijing, crispy, moist, delicious - go the whole duck, you'll be back, I'll be back, yea haa.
Best Peking Duck in Melbourne. This is no joke.
We ordered a whole duck and boy did it not disappoint. It was both crispy and moist, while the pancakes were soft and wafer thin and the plum sauce was fruity but delicate.
We also got the soup and noodles, which were perfect. Staff were friendly, if a little rushed. But adds to the charm.
Definitely a must, no matter where you live!
Our duck was well over cooked. One or two nice pieces but generally dry (we were the first to be served) but did see the ducks that were coming out towards the end looked better.
Customer service was poor! You could only order duck. No entree, no other dishes were allowed. When asked several times our request was declined with a “no”. No other explanation. Not sure why they even have a menu…. Rather rude!
Would I go again? Probably not.
Delicious duck. Absolutely delightful crepes to wrap the duck flesh and awesome duck noodles. More veg + bigger slice of tofu would be nice in the duck soup, but the flavour is beautiful as it is.
We had a pleasant evening with delicious food and friendly service. The duck was the best I had in Melbourne, crispy crackly skin with succulent meat. We ordered $68 set that came with duck pancakes, stir fry noodle and a bowl of soup. It fed us nicely (2adult and 2 kids). Booking is essential.
When you are looking for a cosy restaurant, dimmed light, staff that checks on you every now and then, a place where the chef explains the specials, calming music.this is not the place to go. However, if you just look for great peking duck, Simon Peiking Duck (sic), is your place. I have eaten peking duck in China, Europe and the US. Tried to make it myself dozens of times. Getting the skin crisp like paper (whithout cooking the skin separately) is an art, and this place is like a museum. The skin shattered like glass, the meat was a little on the dry side, pancakes were home made, sauce had a good flavour not too salty. The price is reasonable for Melbourne. This is not roast duck, it is authentic Peking Duck. For sure you can get better in China.but we are in Melbourne, not China.
In my experience, there are 4 predictors of great authentic Chinese food 1) lots of noise, 2) packed with Chinese customers, 3) functional bright light, 4) functional service-not overly polite, just functional. SPD, has it all. Really, think about it, if it was not great (authentic food), the Chinees would not come. The so called "left over duck" which they take away, comes back to you in your noodle dish and soup. This is the authentic way. Peking duck is a feast, where all the parts of the duck are used. You are there to eat Peking duck, and great Peking duck is what you get. I will be back. Thanks
Best peking duck in Melbourne.
5 stars the first time I've dined here, few years ago when the legend, Simon was still alive.
My second visit was a bit disappointing. I've also heard then and there that the owner has passed on.
4 stars: I've noticed the duck served this time had no fat attached (maybe removed?) which was the second best part imo, after the shattingly crisp skin.which wasn't as crispy as the first time around. I can also tell by the colour of the skin wasn't as dark as the first time.
I was estatic taking my mates here but seeing their reaction like it's "meh" made me feel like I hyped it up too much. Throughout the night, I kept saying, noo trust me guys, normally it's 100x better.
Regardless, it's still the best peking duck and i will return and support them when I'm craving duck. After all, they specialise in it:)
