Shimbashi Soba & Sake Bar reviews
61Had ebi oroshi soba which was nice and simple. It was $24 for lunch menu. I feel quite expensive for that soba.
The food, atmosphere and service here was amazing. Had the cold soba noodles, with seared salmon and a poached egg that was cooked to perfection. Best meal I've had in a while.
Pleasantly surprised by the great food and service - will definitely be going back for more meals.
My favourite Japanese place in the city - always delicious and inviting, friendly staff, superb noodles.
Absolutely incredible. A dream. Went there twice on my weekend trip to Melbourne.
As a celiac, it’s really rare to find gluten free traditional Japanese food that isn’t sushi or sashimi.
Shimbashi is a truly special place. 100% gluten free and serves traditional soba and other dishes like tempura that are not normally gluten free.
Service was amazing, food was amazing, 100% would fly back to Melbourne just to eat here again.
I like this place but I feel like their tapas collection is getting poorer. They should have more options for the little portion of tapas with reasonable price.
Quaint Japanese Soba bar with friendly staff! If you like spicy food, try their Red Dragon, but otherwise, any of the cold soba noodle dishes are a perfect go-to

I gatta say appetizers absolutely destroyed soba main. Octopus Kaarage was just amazing! So tender and juicy. Soba noodle was slightly too chewy - maybe undercooked? Tsuyu lacked flavour and tempora was cold and had no texture. Hopefully it's better next time.
Great food, and helpful and friendly staff who checked to make sure we knew what we were ordering (cold noodles). Cosy place, with a large communal table for people dining by themselves.
I really like this place. The soba noodles are so good and you barely ever have to wait as compared with the places next door. It is also not as clamorous and overwhelming to sit in as Ho Chi Mama. Food comes quickly and staff is great. My go-to.
This was my second time visited the restaurant. The entire dining experience still pleasant and relax. Loved it!
If you want authentic soba, you come to the right place! Lovely stuff and nice cozy environment. Will come back for more soba of course
It was a little crowded on a Sunday night so we were seated at the bar. I had the Red dragan soba noodles plus some tapas. The food was really delicious. The service was also very good. I would definitely recommend this place.
It used to be better than this. I found the taste for my lastest visit was not as good as before. Also the price is not now not for everyday eating anymore, most meat dishes cost $20 or more already, not like before seemed like they also adjusted the prices and menu.
Have been here twice. The first time was on Wednesday, staffs were attentive. The soba was chewy and full of soba flavour. Best soba in Melbourne I reckoned. The second time when we went there on a Friday evening, room was packed. Ordered the same kamo nanban soba. I was pretty sure the soba noodle from that day was from generic store, not hand made like I had the first time. Soup was still delicious as it was. What a shame. Will give it another try, maybe.
Quite pricy for soba noodles and portion. But the bigger issue was the food itself and it was super salty and I didn't really enjoy the food that much. Staff were nice so I gave one star more. But I wouldn't go back.
The most disappointing Japanese food I’ve eaten in Melbourne. The soba was barely OK, but to be told that the cold, gluggy rice served with the salmon don is ‘normal’? Simply not good enough.
Not sure about this place. I ordered the miso butter seafood soba. The soba was good, the soup is just ok.
Quite pricey for lunch, i guess that the price you pay for the location.
Cosy little place, light & healthy food - delivered hot & fast. It was a bit cold sitting outside even with their heaters on. Tables and stools were a bit wobbly and small. Loved their happy hour sparkling.
