Loved every single dish. The soba was fresh and cooked to perfection. The food came out very quickly as well. I highly recommend this place if you want fresh soba!
Gluten free and healthy food focused Japanese cuisine. Their specialty Tasmanian buckwheat soba noodle is really good. Just their brown rice based dishes lacks the taste of authenticity and mouth feel.
So sad it changed. The base soup/broth for most of their warm soba dishes is now a truffle mushroom concoction that I find terribly over seasoned. I miss the old Shimbashi. Please, continue with the vegan options but don't remove the original dishes that made this place so good.
Gotta get the nattō, mountain yam and okra option with some warm soba water on the side. This way you know you are living. The way they put the tiny egg yolk on top is so cute it will make you cry. Obviously they also have many richer tasting options and a selection of fine beverages but it's pleasing to find a place which delights in the subtle and delicate tastes. Take a friend or eat alone, equally special.
Great customer service by a lovely waitress, wearing all black, this afternoon around 12: 30pm. Super friendly & efficient! She deserves all the praise.
Will return just to be served by her again
I love this place! So much so we've got take out from here the past 4 weeks (the first time to celebrate mine and my partner's 6 months together). The quality of food is amazing and just so delicious. Can't wait for covid to go away so we can come and dine in.
P.s it's rare that take away options are as good this
Best ramen in Melbourne. Plenty of decent vegan options. Quality delicious food. Great service.
Great gluten free chicken and sushi!
Disappointing they take 10% off for cash and charge extra for card - so there's no way to actual pay the prices listed.
I used to go here just for the spicy seared salmon salad soba (though I would ask for it without chilli oil haha) and I'm so sad they took it off the menu! Other dishes are good too but the seared salmon with that yummy sesame/miso-y soup was so delicious and unique. Personally I don't like yuzu so it's frustrating that so many menu options are served with it now.
Lovely restaurant. We tried warm soba noodle and salmon bento. It was delicious<3. Highly recommend!
Was a very welcome surprise to have genuinely good japanese food in a more local setting with very reasonable prices compared to what's the norm for Northcote especially. Food looked great and tasted great too!
I cannot rate them highly enough. Lovely, helpful staff. Super fresh food with more thought put into it than your normal Shopping Mall-style Sushi. This is still quick but preparations happen throughout the day rather than a delivery of 100+ at 5am from a Warehouse. The serves of Sushi here are more generous and even though the cost can be $1-1.50 more, it is worth every cent! And at the moment, if you buy Sushi, even just one, you can take home a small tub of Karaage Chicken for $5.00. That's $9: 00 for Lunch, $13 if you're really famished. I'll take 2 please. Thank you.
I don’t leave reviews often but I absolutely had to after my meal tonight. While in lockdown we got the DIY sushi kit. Amazing! So much fun to share with others and delicious! What a treat for a coeliac who has really missed Japanese food.
Perfect experience! Great food, lovely staff, quick service, good atmosphere. I recommend it 1000%
The cold soba is definitely more tasty than the hot ones. The place is cosy and great atmosphere. Food came out quickly.
Very friendly staff! I think was a Vietnamese lady who served us:) The mushroom soba was amazing you must finish that rich fungi broth! Bento box was beautifully presented but the sides were pretty blend.
Gosh I love this place. Good atmosphere, friendly service, good value for money and the sake was lovely. The Vegan Tan Tan was seriously good and the Red Dragon was hot but delicious. Highly recommend.
The Soba was delicious. The Tempura however was bland, underwhelming and somewhat disappointing for a price point of $24. It also felt pre-fried and expensive. Izakaya (Bourke Street) may perhaps make better Tempuras for a better price. The spicy salmon salad with soba was the oddest meal Ive had inawhile. I admire Shimbashi's creativity but chilli oil, japanese salad sauce and cold soba with cashew nuts does not sound nice, and taste nice in anyway. Shimbashi also does not respect social distancing as they sat us at very cramped tables.
Quaint little place on Liverpool Street, post-covid dining in experience is almost getting back to normal.menu has changed since the last time I was here, soba is good. Tempura batter is kinda chewy and sticky almost.rainbow roll is good! For the price, it is pricey but you get quality food. There is a 10% off total bill if you pay by cash instead of card. No split-bills.
Good offerings and presentation and lovely environment, but the soba sauce was a tad bitter for my taste
