Shimbashi Soba & Sake Bar

Food was delicious! Plenty of vegan options on the menu. I got the vegan red Dragon soba and the portion was quite big, so good value. Relaxed vibe and friendly staff.

Perfectly cooked, fragrant flavourful food, simple and delicious, finally after a string of atrocious dinners this place deserves the full 5 stars, try the katsu don or the buckwheat noodles, will be back definitely keep the good work up!

Great food, a little overpriced. All dishes are gluten free, which makes dining with friends who have coeliac.

Cute little Japanese restaurant in Northcote. Known for their soba noodles. This was a fantastic dinner meal.

Opted for the Red Dragon Soba noodle and Chicken Katsu GF Curry Rice. Delicious!

Shimbashi is my go to Japanese it’s always good standard it reminds me of Japan with great tasty sushi and authentic soba it is definitely a place to try if you haven’t already

Wonderful service, with a great menu. We were a table of 4, and got a range of food: sashimi, tofu, rolls, karage chicken etc. Everything was high quality and super fresh. They had a considered menu of delicious cocktails and drinks. Looking forward to going back and trying the soba.

Soba is great but the tempura could be improved. Its not light and crispy like the best tempura should be. This one while crunchy ends up being chewy and sticks to your teeth which is strange. Not sure what they do to it, but never experienced a fried food being chewy.

I spontaneously walked in for a solo lunch and had the teriyaki salmon bento. It was exactly the healthy lunch I was craving. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. Service was relaxed and friendly. The portion size was a little smaller than I might have expected, but I believe this is reflective of the increased cost of ingredients and is the same everywhere you eat right now. I would still say this meal was good value. I will definitely be back to try more options from the menu in future.

Omg the food in this restaurant is is absolutely delicious, 6 of us everything we ordered was amazing and for me having so much on the menu l could eat being Gluten free and dairy free options am definitely going back!

One of the best soba places in the north. Soba perfectly al dente, and super tasty flavour combos. Plenty of vego options too. Ill definitely be coming back

Miso glazed karaage chicken is just heaven. Main meals a bit expensive for what you get (imho). Sushi is fantastic though - $4ea for these big whoppers about two thirds bigger than an average hand roll. Worth a try!

Tried this place today and we were blown away. Had the Teriyaki salmon bento and the Red Dragon warm soba soup. The salmon dish was light but very tasty, the soup was like the Japanese version of a laksa. Very spicy, but full of flavor. The sake cocktails with fruit flavors were delicious as well. Service also fast despite being very busy. Highly recommend!

Noodles didn’t have that springy bite that you’d usually get from soba. As a huge fan of soba I was a little disappointed.) : Tempura was great though!

Seriously the best! They went above and beyond to help me move a booking from Fitzroy over to Northcote and made me feel like a VIP! As a coeliac, I love that I can eat here safely and am able to enjoy everything on the menu. Staff are SO friendly and I could hear them having a giggle and enjoying themselves at work which speaks volumes of the joy and good vibes in every corner of this restaurant. The food is insanely delicious and serving sizes are just perfect. My favourite place to enjoy a delicious meal with my friends and family. Shimbashi Soba you have my heart! The best cold soba in the city. Very cosy atmosphere created with use of dim lighting and authentic fit-out. Staff are very polite and accomodating.

I enjoyed the chilled soba with tempura. I do wish there's more dipping sauce though. The tempura is tasty and portion size is good for the price. Kids enjoyed the chicken karaage. Would visit again
