The xiao long bao is a must to order and worth the wait. Would def visit again and recommend to others

We were walking down Chinatown looking for a place to have lunch when we saw the queue at Shanghai Street and decided to give it a try.

The line was quick, the service is attentive and efficient, and the food was good. The place itself is run down and the toilets are old and scruffy, which is to be expected as is a high rotation restaurant.

We ordered soft shell crabs battered and fried. Which were oily but tasted nice. Spicy chilly crabs, which were hard to eat but came with a really tasty pasta. Pork buns and pork and prawn dumplings, both nice. Vegetarian noodles. And spring rolls. It all cost 165$ if I remember correctly. Like I said, food was good and fairly priced. If you're around the area it's a good choice.

The signature menu, Xiaolongbao, is the best. If you order one steamed basket, you will be full because the skin is thick. It was drooling bird and sesame sauce. Unlike Bangbanji, the basic taste of Yare Tori is delicious. It comes with bones, so don't swallow it! Accompanied by beer. The brand was Sapporo. It might be a good deal at $8 for 350ml.

Not a place to go if you are looking for 5 star service, but if you are just here for the food then the dumplings here are a MUST try.

There's a line almost every night for good reason and I always find myself back here for dumplings as it's quality is unmatched for its price.

The XLB is always consistently good, my partner loves the peanut sauce dumplings and the dry lamb noodles is amazing, cheap and very filling.

This crappy shop is really terrible.
Totally not recommended to anyone who wants to eat human food.
Incredibly salty

This is a disgrace for Chinese food.

Dumplings are good but most of the other food are salty like the shanghai fried rice, beef brisket, sweet and sour chicken/pork…

Consistently good every visit! And great veg options!

My friend dreams about the Chinese Broccoli with garlic - it’s seriously that good.

Vegetarian dumplings both pan fried and with the chilli peanut sauce are delicious. Peanut chilli sauce is definitely not spicy so still enjoyable for those with low tolerance.

Shanghai noodles are so flavourful and the noodles are fresh and perfectly cooked each time.

Short wait in queue outside, menus given outside. Food came out quickly and appears to be made on-site and was reasonable quality. Negative, take away container sticky taped to roof to catch mystery oil leak above our table.

Very busy Chinese restaurant with a que out the front in peak times. They are smart in letting you browse the menu and order before you are seated as it means you're not waiting long for food despite the wait times outside. The food here is good and you'll be happy with it. Dumplings are the letdown here though, so avoid these and you'll be fine. Service is ok and cleanliness is not top priority here. Ok, but there's much better around

As a Shanghainese, I grew up in Shanghai and I have to say that Shanghai fried noodles and xiaolong taste very authentic

Very very good Chinese, real food not much MSG. Swrvice could be better but its part of the experience.
There is usually a line out the door and sometimes a 20min wait but it's worth the wait.

We have always noticed a queue outside this place thought we would have lunch there, having read many positive reviews. First of all we have eaten plenty of Xiao long boa on our travels But were pretty shocked at how dry the pork filling was hardly any stock and very thick dough also tried a stir fried noodle dish which was overcooked and lacking flavour. Way below average

First time my wife and I trying this place.
Boy what a treat. Place does get pretty busy aswell.
We had 2x serves of dumplings, soup and a side dish. We were soo full had to take away the rest.
Service was a bit on the down side as we didn't know to go to the counter or someone come to you.
How ever the quality of the food makes it an easy 5 star.

In the middle of this lock-down in Melbourne we had take away vegetarian dumplings so plump with delicious deep green veg filling and peanut sauce. Just what we needed after our AZ vaccination!

If you are a vegeterian, try spring rolls, dumplings and fried rice. I won't recommend Noodles.
I have a request though that they should add more items for vegeterian people. Staff is very courteous.

Want something affordable and delicious? Something soft and hot and juicy at the same time? And have some group of friends? This is the place to be. The Sun rise in the east and sets in the west.

I had the basic spinach and other greens filled dumplings with soy sauce, chilli sauce, and a bit of vinegar. Quite tasty and fulfilling!

I had Xiao Long Bao here. They were really bad. They look fine, but tasted so bad. I had the same at Hutong the night before, which were excellent. So I know what tastes good and what doesn’t. If you want good Xiao Long Bao, don’t come here.

This is the worst yum cha experience we have had anywhere in the world. I can barely describe what we were served today, except to say when it appeared on the table, it looked utterly horrendous.goopy and just not fit for consumption. My partner urged me to at least try some, as we have eaten all over the word and are frequent yum cha advocates and this was the most appalling slops we have ever been served. I cannot begin to describe the filth we were served and would urge anyone considering going here to think again. As a sidenote, there was ZERO distance between diners and an alarming amount of people dining in very close contact, but compared to what they dished out, this was nothing. REVOLTING and wouldn't think about eating here even under duress.

Xiao Long Bao and panfried veggie dumplings were very tasty, fair price and the staff are very friendly, considerate and vegan accommodating. Only downside is their strict BYO policy and fee but that won't discourage me from going again.
