45 BE CAREFUL OF DODGY GRATUITY TACTICS
(EDIT: Ignore my above statement, it turns out the 'gratuity' listed on the bill is a public holiday surcharge. I would suggest using different wording as gratuity's definition is "tip", and a tip is completely different to a public holiday surcharge. END EDIT)
I had lunch at Second Home yesterday. Upon paying for the bill, the person at the counter showed me on a digital display the food items we had. The display was too small to display everything at once but I could see the main meals and that was enough to confirm that was my order. I then paid, and after payment went through, a receipt of the payment was displayed which included a 15 PERCENT GRATUITY of which I did not agree or was told about at all. What an absolute dodgy tactic to add this on to my bill without telling your customer!
Needless to say I will not go there again and hopefully others read this so that they are aware of this DODGY TACTIC and can identify and remove the 15 PERCENT GRATUITY that gets added on in secret before paying.
Manager or owner… Who ever she is, need to search about hospitality and manner.
Beside the attitude that she gave me, I’ve never waited 23 mins for a take away coffee.
Absolutely beautiful venue, with a hybrid of restaurant/cafe. Definitely a place to take someone for an impressive meal with good service.
I always enjoy going to Second Home. Good coffee, good food, good atmosphere and good service. Parking can be a bit of a pain.
Not great for vegans. No savoury options and only 1 sweet option. I was surprised as it has a great vibe, bummer the menu didn't match. Hopefully they will add some more diverse menu options in future.
I would like to give four but the staff from second home disappointed me for the second time. On Sunday morning, When you are fully booked you need to have more staff to serve people. The waitress get our order and we confirm our four orders, she left and after half an hour they brought three, when we asked they said we will check, took 10 min that we didn’t touch our food which got cold by then, one came back and said they are preparing, we asked to cancel he said it’s going to be ready in couple of minutes! It took another 10 min, we start to share ours, then we finished and still they running around, we asked to cancel again and they respond was in a minute your order will be ready! And still we sat there and waited longer than 7 min which the breakfast got ready on the bench of the kitchen, we saw it but it took 5 min to serve, in fact I expected them to be professional and when it takes much longer than they say at least apologise like a professional. I felt terrible because I invited my friend who has a 10 days old baby to be happy and I failed.
Striking midcentury warehouse cafe tucked away in an unassuming & commercially zoned precinct of the beautiful leafy east.
Quality extends to the food, menu choice & followed by friendly service. Lovely little serene courtyard suitable for warmer seasons.
Highly recommended to book well in advance for larger groups (for brekky or lunch) as it does get busy!
It is definitely one of the best Cafe in Melbourne. Food are so good, staff incredibly helpful and attentive. Interior design make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Absolutely loved it.
Really enjoyed everything we ordered, the size of the halloumi dish was a bit disappointing which is why I couldn't give 5 stars. When my friends and I went it was incredibly busy (long weekend so understandable) so it was quite a while before we could be seated. Would definitely want to come back to try more of the delicious food.
Such a beautiful spot with lovely staff. Delicious food to boot. Did I mention the gorgeous interiors?
Great service, great atmosphere and great food. Ranks very high in my top 5. Highly recommended.
Excellent and fast kitchen hand workers! Food was stunning, left me shaking and going crazy! The use of real plant decorations Fantastic
After having a terrible cafe experience a few weekends ago, it was such a breath of fresh air to come back to Second Home. The food is amazing, as is the professionalism and atmosphere. Favourite cafe in the area, possibly Melbourne.
Delicious food very friendly stuff too. Perfect for a brunch wolith friends, partners or family. The best coffee in Melbourne's Suburbia too! Quite busy on the weekends, so I recommend booking ahead!
Extremely underwhelming experience. Nice venue and friendly staff, that's about it. Don't bother trying their food at all especially if you were to wait 40 mins for a table and another 30 mins for food. Both my partner and I went off to eat at another Cafe after because it was just that bad.
Go to breakfast or brunch spot! The atmosphere inside is amazing and I love the openness of the cafe. Food there is also so yummy and you’re always met with a smile by the workers. It can get very busy so sometimes you do have to wait so Id recommend booking in advance. However the wait is always worth it anyway!
Overpriced. Shredded cabbage that came with panko chicken was brown and unappealing. Staff friendly and helpful. Nce outdoor space.
Service was great, very friendly. Good strong coffee and food was delicious. We sat out the back on a rainy day and it felt like we were in a cosy cabin.
Love this place with its friendly family vibe, fresh, delicious and healthy food and upbeat atmosphere with quick and friendly service.
The Eggs Benedict was absolutely amazing! I switched it up for Salmon Pastrami instead of Ham. My friends had it with Ham which I think is better.
The coffee is just as good, if not better then the food.
Strongly recommend booking in advance. This place gets super busy
