Sassafras Cafe reviews
65Ordered a pot of Chai tea but the woman taking the order wrote 'chai latte' on her pad. I tried to explain I wanted chai tea in a pot made with water not latte, so she vigorously scribbled out her error and then asked 'do I want milk in the tea? I explained again how I wanted tea made with water and she rolled her eyes at me. Not surprising, my tea came out ten minutes after the coffee my partner ordered (and just about finished) came out!
Lovely cafe. Mum & I enjoyed home made quiche, home made orange & fig cake, coffee & chai. Most warm & hospitable hostess & owner. We'll be back when next in Sassafras. Thank you
I am a regular return customer. The staff are accommodating and so friendly, nothing is to much. Best scones. Can be hard to get a table on weekends as very popular. I would re ommend to anyone to have a cuppa and meal. The staff remember myself and children which is so nice.
Friendly staff, we came here for Breakfast and scones, it was ok, I still prefer the scones from Kallista Tea Rooms.
Quick take away coffee and carrot cake, best carrot me and my wife have had in a long time. Coffee was hot but not burnt. Will come back when it's not so busy.
We came across this little cafe in search of Devonshire tea and was not disappointed; scones were fresh and huge accompanied by good coffee. There wasn't enough cream with the scones unfortunately. We also had the club sandwich which was really delicious. Great service too.
Staff were friendly. Quiche of the day and their Devonshire tea was nice. However, recommend to skip the Sassy Burger. Average and comes with crisps potato chips instead of hot chips
Came in to buy a sandwich (which they didn’t sell). The owner was a bit rude and told us we won’t be able to get food like that “anywhere along here”, and that we’d need to go to the next town. Quite dismissive.
Luckily we found Ripe cafe across the street, who were friendly and helped us out.
The most beautiful little cafe, the owner/waiter was absolutely exceptional. So cheerful, so knowledgable about the menu and what had just came out the oven and where the ingredients had come from.
Love love love!
This is a really lovely cafe. Comfortable and warm with very friendly staff. The scones are a real highlight, which is no mean feat considering the heavy competition on this street. Leaves Miss. Marples in the dust.
Delicious French toast and great coffee. Good spot for cyclists, check out my YouTube channel MCS Melbourne Cycling Segments
I don't usually comment but great iced coffee, coffee and scones. Noisy to sit out front unfortunately.
It was a busy place when we visited on a Sunday morning. Luv the chai latte and mixed berry jam.
This is a lovely, homely cafe which you can relax and drink a coffee in because it is quieter than other cafes in the area. They have books on the shelves which you are free to read while at the cafe. I would recommend getting the scones, banana bread or the burger which is delicious and absolutely huge and very filling.
Love it there. Very social place. Great for a get together with friends. Great coffee. Owners are great to have a chat or a laugh with.
My father was in a wheelchair and even though the place was packed the staff were extremely accommodating
They are trying!
One star for service. It's never easy to get it right, I appreciate that, but this time they were off the mark. Queue jumpers should not get preferential treatment but that is what happened to me even though I observed the queue jumper's request and then I specifically asked the waitress for my food not to be delayed due to that person. Very disappointed and frustrated with the result.
Three stars for the price. Reasonably priced considering they know that they are in tourist hot spot. It's not cheap for what you get, but they could have charged a lot more.
Five stars for the food. My compliments to the chef for the Big Sassy Breakfast.
Average score = three stars.
Would I go back? Unlikely. There are quite a few other good options in Sassafras to choose from.
Boxing Day when nobody else was open, managed to get a table and quick service despite them being busy. Nice scones and really great iced coffee with ice cream. Recommended.
Best scone ever in Australia! Warm and soft, served with homemade cream and jam. Absolutely delicious!
