Saltwater Phillip Island reviews
63 Employees were nice & helpful but the food was really bad. We got pizza & all of us got sick. We ordered mushroom & truffle- Salami- islander & Mediterranean. We chose this place bcaz of their ratings but have no idea why the quality of the food was so bad!
The view is beautiful, but the food
Absolutely fantastic. Great location, excellent service and the food and drink was sensational.
Zero stars. Made a booking over a WEEK in advance & asked for a particular table. Upon arrival table was already given away. Restaurant wasn’t full. Given no reason, excuse or apology for the error. The service has been absolutely woeful since it opened a few years ago. Staff turnover is constant. Overpriced food & drink. Underserviced ordering. Limited drinks menu. Expect to wait at least an hour for your food. They lost $150 plus of business tonight. I walked out with my family & went to the Wooli Tavern instead which is so much better. When Ben Hilfenhaus was managing here it was average. It’s gotten progressively worse since. You basically pay for the view. They even removed my post from their Instagram account because they were obviously embarrassed & didn’t want the poor feedback. I will never spend money at this pathetic establishment ever again.
Really disappointed. We are locals who eat out often (a good 3 times per week) and I was really looking forward to a good seafood chowder. Well is was pretty awful. Tasteless, watery with very little seafood and way too much carrot, potato and celery. A small serve with 1 piece of toasted sourdough for $37.
I love seafood chowder normally so such a shame. When I told the girl when paying how disappointing it was I got no apology at all. I asked for a discount as I left half of it but was offered the bitter lime and lemon drink for free instead. Mmmmm not good enough Im afraid and such a shame.
Two stars for the location - nice view and ambiance. Food and drink were ordinary and price was over the top. Two adults and two kids - the bill came to $160 (with a $15% surcharge equaling $21 dollars) felt like we had been robbed as was not advised prior to ordering. Kids lemonades came as soda water, we were given food with no cutlery or napkins and one child’s pasta meal was served stone cold. Felt like we were constantly asking for service. Won’t be back due to the price tag.definitely not value for money. Disappointing!
Eaten here twice and everyone loved their meals. Hamburger was the best I’ve had so far. There was a bit of a wait for meals but restaurant was full so totally understandable. Will definitely come back!
Got the chips here and they where awlful, worst then frozen packet chips at the supermarket. Only ate because I was hungry.
Long since I last wrote a review
1) Amazing pizza hand's down
2) Amazing view, beautiful place, guys if ya wanna impress your GF/BF/partners take them out there.
3) The only thing I found missing is hospitality connection between the staff and our table reiterating again it is only my observation cant speak on behalf of other family members and maybe because they are very busy.
4) Not to say they where not observant they immediately brought us a free drink as we dropped one catering to our kids on the table.
I would absolutely go back there.
SaltWater, thank you for having us, it was a special occasion. We booked the place at a very short notice and absolutely enjoyed it.
Great location, great food. If you want an easy dining experience with delicious food then come here.
Delicious xmas celebration dinner, service was great. Prawns in linguine pasta were tough and not nice unfortunately but the rest of the seafood was lovely. Ginger waiter was very handsome and attentive:)
Fairly disappointing. I ordered the fish tacos which is advertised as a main. Two mini tacos with slivers of fish the size of a couple of matchboxes and the thickness of paper. As a main I would expect a full portion of protein, otherwise it’s an entree and even then it would be stingy. Hamburger was nice served with a side of 6 chips. Again, not good enough. When we saw the volume of food I asked how long it would take for another bowl of chips and was told it would be 40 minutes. People are paying customers, costs may have increased but we still expect a full serving when ordering a main. We won’t be back.
I was so impressed with this restaurant, it was amazing in every way. We will certainly be back.thankyou.
A must for a trip to Phillip Island. Book ahead. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Were able to move tables as requested which was kind.
Food and cocktails were delicious.
Thank you
The service was lack-luster, there was long waitimes even though the venue was not busy. The clientele present at the time of eating was very rude and ill-mannered. The food was most definitely not worth the price!
Had the best mussels in Victoria, that what it makes me feel, soft like it’s still fresh from waters and not over cooked. Love the mushroom arancini, and the chicken wings! I specifically liked the bar seat outdoor on the second floor, great food with great view, just perfect! If I visit Phillip island again, il definitely come again!
Food was good - service and wait time average. Had waiter say sorry we don’t really care about service just brewing beer that’s our main business. Odd comment when he was paid as waiter to restaurant
Saltwater is our go to every time we come to the Island. The relaxed atmosphere is second to none, with a view that is picture perfect any time of the year. Whether it’s a wood fired pizza, a couple of sippers or a sharing of the great choice of tapas, you cannot go wrong with the menu choices. The staff are so friendly and the Manager Tenita, is accommodating and professional way beyond her years.
Nipped in for a drink and to check the place out, was impressed with the attentive staff and their willingness to help and serve
Read this review to the end!
The negatives- Well Overpriced. If you charge $35 for chowder it better be memorable, I’m sorry but it wasn’t. See Mure’s in Hobart for a well priced excellent value for money chowder.
The adults fish and chips serve ordered for my 13 year old man child, although proclaimed “awesome” was stingy on the Gummy shark, for $29 I would expect much better value.
The positives- amazing location, absolutely beautiful no matter the weather- arguably best location on the island. Big windows with incredible views.
Great atmosphere, great building.
Brilliant staff, friendly, accommodating and efficient.
The Margherita pizza was delicious. Great base, crust, and fresh basil (a marg should have basil, not oregano, like so many do these days)
I made a booking online at 7.45pm (there was no earlier bookings even though there wasn’t many people there). We sat down around 7.50pm and by 8.20pm we were told the kitchen was closed and could only order pizza, even though the website stated they closed at 11pm. The entire 45min we were there we were rushed and felt like the staff wanted us to leave. We spent $150 in 45min and had such poor service. The staff were basically vacuuming under our feet to get us out on top of one of the waitresses giving other employees looks for us to leave - it was 8.45pm on a Friday night. Very disappointing…
