Royal Standard Hotel reviews
59Top notch food, and I mean top notch not just your normal pub grub this is some real home style cooking which I loved. Big portions, great happy hour, ice cold Guiness and lovely atmosphere, what more could you want!
Great local pub near Vic Market, very happy attentive staff, wonderful Italian food and friendly atmosphere.
This is a fine hotel close to the Melbourne CBD with a huge menu to select from. The food and service was great. This venue is well worth a visit.
Great pub atmosphere with very good range of food for lunch. Combined with fast and friendly staff.
Several other reviewers have described this pub as a hidden gem and after dining here I must agree. In addition to an old-school style pub located within a close walking distance to the Melbourne CBD, there is an Italian restaurant that serves fantastic pizzas with outdoor dining. Despite being close to the city it’s in a quiet pocket of North Melbourne and very relaxing to have a drink and a feed. Definitely a must visit.
My first visit to the Royal Standard in almost 35 years I reckon - I hadn't been through the doors of this great old Pub since I worked at Southdown Press in Walsh St in the late 80s. And boy have I been missing out.
An absolute ripping local pub resplete with great staff, Moretti, Guinness and a host of other beers on tap, friendly patrons, what looked and smelled like divine pub grub AND to our great surprise, Happy Hour on a SATURDAY!
It's a bit of a hike but this one's definitely going on our roster of regular watering holes. Cheers!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this delightful local pub, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, the cozy and inviting atmosphere welcomed me, setting the tone for a memorable evening.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the slow-cooked lamb and chicken Parma. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece, bursting with rich flavors that left my taste buds dancing with delight. The tenderness of the lamb and the perfect blend of toppings on the chicken Parma made them truly exceptional. As if that weren't enough, the portions were incredibly generous, ensuring I left the table feeling fully satisfied.
What truly elevated the dining experience, however, was the warm and attentive staff. Their genuine friendliness and willingness to go the extra mile for guests made me feel like a cherished regular. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful recommendations, making the decision-making process a breeze.
From the moment I sat down to the final farewell, I felt like I was part of an extended family. The pub's commitment to creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment truly shone through.
In conclusion, this local pub with its great food and exceptional staff deserves every bit of praise it receives. If you're in search of a place to savor delicious dishes in a friendly and inviting setting, this is the spot for you. Whether you're a local or a visitor, don't miss the chance to experience the culinary delights and warm hospitality offered by this gem of a pub.
Famous for it's family friendly Italian bistro that seems to have taken over the pub. Pub classics still on the menu but focus is on pizza, pasta and super fresh seafood.
A classic inner city pub with great food, plenty of staff, nice atmosphere whether it is summer or winter. We moved into our new offices up the road in Feb and have enjoyed having the Royal Standard so close by.
Stumbled upon this place by accident.
Don’t judge a book by its cover.
Outstanding filling well priced Italian food, and the service was attentive.
Beers on tap
Can’t wait to return again.
Went there with our nephew and his wife for lunch. Lovely pub, exceptional food and customer service was probably one of the best received in a very long time. Will definitely go back next time we are back n Melbourne
The hotel hosted the Vespa club of Melbourne Xmas celebration. The food was excellent the beer fresh and cold. The hosts friendly. Locals must already know its good
One of Melbourne's oldest hotels and It's a great one too. We've been here many times. The Italian inspired food is always great and the prices are very, very reasonable. The service is great too. We love sitting outside on a nice day. Parking in the area, especially during week days, can be a bit of a problem sometimes.
The Royal Standard is a great restaurant with amazing Italian food and some friendly staff. Unfortunately the experience was brought down by the male owner/manager who was extremely rude after ordering a steak medium rare and receiving it well done. We tried to politely speak with staff about it but ended up with the owner aggressively dismissing it entirely and walking away. It was only when asking for a second time did he acknowledge the issue and said he would make a new one, after this we received a new steak that was cooked Blue and slammed on the table. It is disappointing as every other member of staff was amazing and the other food was great. If dining here I advise trying to avoid the male owner/manager.
If you know you know, this place never disappoints!
Lovely staff, the lady and man who are always working there are so sweet. I recommend the pasta, although everything is delightful.
Went there for a meal with friends, and WOW it blue us away with the menu the food was above expectations and a great atmosphere will definitely be back next time we visit Melbourne
Pub/Aussie style Italian restaurant. Very popular joint. Solid Parma. Feels like a country pub. Limited range of beers on tap and in the fridges. Needs a bit of a tidy up.
One of the best old-school pubs! It’s so comforting. Good, cheap food and lovely staff that give it a homely feel.
Wonderful food and staff. I regularly have the spaghetti pescatore and it's sensational. Make sure you book a table because it gets busy here. You can usually find a car park in William or Capel Street for 2 hours.
For a small hotel it bats way above the average, hotel staff are amazing service is impeccable and food is fantastic, I would highly recommend this hotel for a get together or just a quiet meal, hands down one of the better hotels I've been to.
