Rock Sugar Melbourne

We really enjoyed all of the food and especially the cocktails, it was all absolutely delicious.

However - we all felt the end of our night was tarnished which was real shame as we were asked to leave half an hour early when were advised we would have 2 hrs until 8pm

We were advised this via email and this is also stated in the terms and conditions when booking online - and we understood and were happy with this 2 hour time slot.

However at 7.30pm we were given the bill and told we would have to be out in about 10-15mins

Yes this may not seem like a big deal - however two of my friends had just ordered another cocktail each at 7.30pm thinking they would have half an hour to finish them. Instead they had to quickly chug them.

When I questioned with the waitress I felt like she wouldn't even listen or let me show the email I received stating we would have 2 hrs.

I understand with covid that you have to have enough time to clean the tables etc

But when it is even stated on the website that you have a 2 hour seating and is stated again via
email correspondence - and I also the fact that the next seating isn't until 8.15pm - surely 15mins is enough time to clean the table?

I just feel that if this is not the case and if it's not sufficient time to clean the tables, then this is something that shouldn't be stated on their website that you have 2 hrs when in fact, you only have about an hour and a half

We just felt it was a real shame as we absolutely loved all the food and the drinks - I've been so excited to try Rock Sugar as have wanted to go for a long time and this was mine and my friend's first experience there - and we just felt extremely rushed at the end and felt like we only got a bit over an hour and a half to enjoy our dinner.

Yes I know they are dealing with restrictions - but then I don't promise a 2 hour seating and then kick people out with half an hour to go. It's not fair.

I would really like to come back again as we really did love all the food, we couldn't flaw it, but just a little sad and frustrated how the end of the night was. We did also order quite a bit of food and drinks as well so it's not like we didn't order a lot. I really hope management take this feedback onboard.

Food and service was on point. I'm a vegetarian and the tofu bao was out of this world. Highly recommend this place!

Can’t rave about this restaurant enough.
Service = top notch.
Venue = unique but not to over the top.
Cocktails = different, so so yum and beautifully presented.
Food = out of this world good.
To add onto the food, we got a lot of the appetisers to share and each one was so flavourful and gave us that fusion blast that we wanted. It was an amazing night and I will for sure be back for more!

Food was ok, aside from the fact that they didn't offer pad thai on the dinner menu. 10$ for a single bao was very overpriced, especially in Melbourne where you can pick up a delicious bao for 3-4 dollars. Drinks were middling to decent; the fairy floss one was interesting to assemble but very one dimensional taste wise.
My main issue was with the way we were rushed out of the place, we had 3 staff members tell us to hurry as the table was booked after us, then they started coming and clearing our table aggressively almost an hour before we were supposed to be leaving. Literally plates with half the food still on it was being grabbed while they asked "can I take this" twice during our evening. I get it, they want to make money, but our table of 4 spent over $300 during my brothers birthday party, so why they were so intent on pushing us out the door I'll never know. Wouldn't go back, wouldn't recommend.

The ambience of the restaurant is very fun and retro chic and the staff are very warm and friendly. My friend and I ordered the $49 banquet menu and let me tell you there was quite a lot of food that was served! Unfortunately the food lacked any kind of "Thai" flavours or modern asian fusion flavours. It's a place to go if you like "instagrammable" food as it all looks very "pretty".

Over rated. Good service. Meals were far too small. Cocktails over priced, and nothing special.

Great venue, great food and drinks but above all, amazing staff.

We had our engagement party in the private courtyard out the back. The decorations were on point, the cocktails were superb and the food was insane. It was just perfect for our group of 18.

The level of care and attention the staff showed us was simply amazing. They treated us like royalty despite the fact that we were just a rowdy bunch of kiwis.

We will definitely be going back, and would fully recommend Rock Sugar to anyone looking for a great spot for dinner, drinks, or a function.

Amazing drink menu and food we ordered was really yum! The pork bao omg mouth watering! Really lovely staff very attentive and friendly, will defiantly be returning!

Really fun restaurant especially to meet up with a small group of friends or for a date night. Drinks were great!

It was a green curry, dumplings and pad see ew beef dream. This meal was so good that we were still speaking about it days after. Can’t believe we have lived in the area for 18months and haven’t eaten here until now.

Dining experience was amazing. Our server, Imogen, was friendly and prompt, ensuring we had everything we needed at all times. Food was good, but the service and atmosphere was why we’d go back!

This is a must go in Melbourne! The menu is perfect for sharing or just taking yourself out for dinner. The food was fresh, full of flavour, diverse and yet had all the classics of an Asian fusion cuisine. Make sure you order the massaman curry and coconut rice! The cocktails tasted amazing and looked even better - my tip - grab yourself the bucket cocktail and don't share. The staff were wonderful and attentive which is a perfect match for the 'Instagram ready' venue. I can't wait to go back.

Cute little place with a good selection of cocktails. Food tasted fresh. A little pricey when considering portion sizes

Very average food with a high price tag. There are many other restaurants in Melbourne doing a similar thing and they are better and a lot cheaper. Avoid this place. It's very average.

Wow! What a place. Came here with a couple friends and genuinely impressed with EVERY SINGLE dish served. The cocktails were amazing, stunning venue and delicious food. 10/10

In my opinion this is an instagram worthy place as the food is nicely set out and that all I felt I was paying for. The food was not worthy the money spent and overall not an enjoyable experience due to the chaotic feeling the restaurant had.

Atmosphere
The place layout for couples felt very squashed, also the tables where small and made it hard to fit dishes and drinks on. It was also apparent the waitress staff didn't have their own sections as we were asked multiple times if we wanted to order by different staff amongst other questions being repeated.

Food
Food from ordering came out within 5-10 minutes which is great however makes me wonder how the food it prepared.
Food is overpriced. We were given calamari which was hard and not fresh at all.
Most of the food was also very oily and cold
The drinks where nice and displayed nicely

I would not go back to this place for food considering my experience I could eat food of same quality for 3rd of the price.
I would however go back for a drink.

Don’t recommend not good for teenagers stereotypical staff! Food not great taste like fish and china!

A nice trendy restaurant with indoor and outdoor courtyard seating.

Firstly we started off with the Fairy floss martini in peach. Nice, creative and sweet.

Tofu rice cracker has the crispiest cracker with the silkiest tofu with neoc nam sauce. Careful of the chillis as theyre quite spicy.

Sriracha butter corn on the cob. The juiciest and sweetest corn i've bitten into that. Perfectly paired with the shaved parmesan cheese and the dip compliments.

Sticky pork belly- sweet as honey and meat is so tender it just breaks apart. The sauce is perfect and pairs well with the cracker.

Warm cauliflower salad - looks simple but it's so flavourful. A mountain on roasted cauliflower that is paired with a thick layer of parmesan cheese and slices of thin spring onion.

Overall, a good experience and great place for lunch!
