Rare Hare Wine & Food Store reviews
67 Be prepared for an exquisite stay, environment and meal.
Also lots of pretentious folks around to avoid like the plague.
My husband and I were given a voucher to the Jackalope group and decided to use it at Rare Hare - wow, so glad we did!
Warm friendly welcome. Interesting setup with "shared tables" which was fantastic. Each table is long and whilst it's shared you are well spaced away from others.
My husband and I shared everything which I'd highly recommend - a great way to taste lots of things. Here's what we had:
(1) Salumi selection (2) Potato Bread and Olive Oil (3) Kingfish Ceviche with avocado, blood orange and chilli - yum (4) Wood roasted stone fruit with stracciatella, radicchio and pecans - this was the most amazing dish - just wonderful combination of flavours and so tasty (5) Lamb shoulder, cumin yoghurt, pickled cucumber and tomato vinaigrette - perfectly cooked and great quality meat (6) Fries (7) Choc chip cookie - the only disappointing dish of the night - quite tasteless (8) Cheese selection. More than enough food - we had such full and happy bellies.
Drinks were well priced.
And service, our waiter, Elliott was excellent - relaxed, attentive and engaging.
A wonderful evening!
We had the best seat in the house for a Sunday lunch. Super impressed with this place - food was flawless. Some the new staff made a couple of small mistakes but very apologetic and fixed immediately. Highlights were the octopus, the beef, and of course the flagship cookie.
Spent a very enjoyable Boxing Day late lunch at the Rare Hare. Food was very enjoyable with the share plates, delicious selection and plenty of it. Service was great by Maddy, lovely young lady with nothing too much trouble and a great sense of humour
We attended the venue for Christmas lunch, set menu. The vibe and interior design was really nice and we had a great view of the vineyard while dining. Food and wine both were exceptional with massive portions. We will definitely come back soon to try their usual menus as well.
Wow. Had lunch there on Sunday. Food is out of control. Delicious. Faultless. Every dish. I’d recommend getting a seat outside if you can.
As always excellent food excellent service. Great wine at very reasonable prices. Catered very well to gluten free diet. Whatever you do don’t miss the sardines amazing!
Service and food was fantastic!
A little bit expensive but well worth it.
Just a pity they left the best until last, the lamb was cooked perfectly for my liking but a little bit rare for my wife's liking, if it had been cooked about a minute longer we both would have enjoyed it.
We were so full we couldn't eat much of the lamb anyway, pity it wasn't brought out sooner.
At least we didn't need to buy dinner, we were too full for that.
We will definitely be back.
Very disappointing.we had been trying to contact them before driving 45mins to get there, no answer! Website said walk-ins welcome. We got there only to be told they were booked out and turned away. Had to find another restaurant with a hungry child and I myself being pregnant.
The Food, weather and the Scenery was Excellent
Loved all their food
It's a must to go
One of my favourite wineries to visit for food. The set menus are delicious, and the atmosphere and view is lovely. The wine is good without being superb though but overall a great place to visit.
A friend and I attended this restaurant yesterday for lunch. A surprise for my 50th. My friend had advised this upon booking and like most restaurants I have experienced over many years, there was no 'happy birthday'
To begin with, we were seated practically at the front door and the table and chairs - high table with bar like chairs - were so uncomfortable. The amazing view was not visible at all. First disappointment!
Once seated, it took over 25mins for a waiter to come and take our order. There was no 'hello, welcome, Im 'name' are you ready to order? ' In fact none of the staff were friendly nor spoke. Second disappointment.
Then I noticed the plates placed infront of us were dirty, actually scrapped off food and asked for new plates. Once again, there was no 'im terribly sorry about that' or something to that effect. Third disappointment.
Whilst the food was tasty, the rest of the experience was sub standard and I would not recommend taking the time to drive to this venue to experience tasty food. There's much of that in Melbourne, right at our door step.
The staff need some major training in customer service, and the plates MUST BE CLEAN! And another thing, please note this venue only has 'communal seating' so you are seated with others at long tables. This is not advised at booking and when my friend queried this was told 'its on the website'. This venue is presented as 'high end', nothing of the sort, really!
Great food and lovely service. Only minor criticism was that it was too loud with background music making it hard to converse but perhaps that's just me getting old! The noise wasn't a deal breaker and we're lucky to have this 15 mins from home
Enjoyed every morsel! Last time we stayed at Jackalope- we were not able to get in. This time we were better prepared. A vibrant, seasonal menu which celebrated vegetables beautifully. Wonderful service and generous helpings. See you soon.
An amazing food experience and wanted to try everything on the menu. Great service with wonderful vineyard views.
Food was amazing, staff on point, view spectacular, negative was the seating arrangement, in this day of age do you really want to be seated so close to someone else. Plus the tables could be arranged looking at the view.
Casual setting with great food, wine and service. Fantastic location with indoor and outdoor settings.
Took some interstate visitors to Rare Hare for lunch and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed the set menu and each dish was delicious. Staff were wonderful. Friendly, attentive and informed. We didn’t have a table close to the window but could still enjoy the wonderful view across the vineyard. Would highly recommend Rare Hare.
We had a great experience at Rare Hare. The food was great, service excellent and the view was perfect. We look forward to returning in the near future.
We went to Rare Hare to celebrate a birthday & cannot fault the experience. Every one of the dishes we chose was delicious. Very attentive & polite service. The candles in the desserts were a nice surprise & lovely touch to help us celebrate a great day!
