Penny Young reviews
73Came here with a group of friends on a Saturday and it was fantastic. Top notch service which was so friendly, tasty food (pizza’s were a winner) and just a fantastic vibe. Couldn’t recommend this place more.
Great spot with an awesome vibe. Nice areas to sit in or outside. Try the pizza's, they are very nice. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Great love music to go and listen too while having a pint.
Seriously found the worst pizza ever made. $20 plus for the calabrese pizza which was horrible at best, seriously disgusting. Very expensive establishment however staff were really friendly.
One of the best craft beer selections in this part of Melbourne, as well as an epic selection of wines and spirits. Always really good service too, cash friendly. Would give 6 stars if I could.
Great place! Amazing cocktails and the food is good as well. Went on a date night with my partner and we had a great time.
The ambiance is great at Penny Young, and the food was amazingly delicious. The bar staff were friendly and patient with the long order we had for the group. The wait staffs were in a bit of a hurry for us to vacate the table even thou booked from 6-8pm and some of us were still eating.
Great for date nights and friendly catchups.
Staff weren't particularly polite throughout our night. The evening was soured by the fact that we paid $4 for cakeage per person (which in itself is outrageous) - for which we got our cake cut into pieces on its platter and received no plates, cutlery or napkins which meant myself and the other guests were eating with our hands and had no way to clean ourselves. Really poor form.
A soulless, "beer-barn" atmosphere, and excessively loud music — not the sort of place for quiet conversation.
Yummy wood fire pizzas and little bites. GF and Vegan options. Friendly staff.
Nicely done up carport enclosed with patio blinds, wall heaters and a concrete floor. Water bowl promptly provided for my dogs without having to ask.
But for such a laid back, hip and casual setting, I was very surprised when I was politely told to take my small dog off my lap when the food arrived.
Their restaurant, their policy. My money, and my policy is to keep spending it where I can eat with my dog on my lap.
Very nice atmosphere, the staff were nice enough, I can't complain too much about them. However we were kicked out at 9 since it was a "quiet night", it was a Thursday btw. I understand the financial logic, but surely they stay open until at least 10: 30. Overall though, I enjoyed it.
Food is 4/5, awesome pizza and bites with a great ambience. But they knew we were after food and sat us at a table too small for a pizza dish+bites+cocktails. Our plates were a bit precarious. Ask for a deck table if you're eating in. Be aware, they have a smoking deck out front which wafts in easily.
Great vibes, friendly staff, heaps of drink options and tasty tasty woodfired pizza! They unexpectedly have vegan cheese too! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would like to return.
Delicious food, fantastic service and amazing atmosphere! My friends and I had a fun night and will definitely be coming back!
Booked a reservation here recently and it was well worth it. Amazing vibes and hospitality. The food and cocktails were immaculate and the staff extraordinary. Definitely recommend the hotspot of Moonee ponds!
Nice cheeky little spot, went there with some friends and the waitress I got was sooo nice and patient with my dumb friends. I never got her name but I wish I could shout her out, she was a slightly shorter girl and I think her name began with a T, but the mask muffled it. Also yummy cocktails.
Yep they've got a variety but it's mostly not very interesting and seriously expensive. They're cashing in on the term 'craft beer' without actually providing anything interesting. The food is average.
PROS:
-Their margarita pizza was honestly one of the best I've ever had! Plenty of sauce and herbs with a delicious, thin, crusty base. Minimal wait time before being served.
-Staff seemed very nice, from the door security man to the bartenders and waitress.
CONS:
-Cigarette smoke from people directly out the front came wafting straight through the OPEN door. We could literally see the haze entering and drifting across the room. This is so disappointing for non-smokers and asthmatics who sit indoors at such venues specifically to avoid inhaling other people's fumes! They desperately need to put a closure on the doorway or something, because I ended up leaving with a cough, reeking of smoke and having to take my asthma reliever medication.
-Unfortunately the night we were there they had a live band (guitarist and singer) who were unbearably LOUD. It was near impossible to have a decent conversation without shouting in people's ears and repeating yourself constantly. They really need to tone it down.

Overall it would've been a great place to come back to if it werent for the deal-breakers mentioned. If I hear that they fix these things however, then I would definitely go back. If not, then no way.
Long time Moonee Ponds resident, just found this place. Surprisingly good (for the area). Can recommend.
I had one of the pizza specials and substituted the prosciutto with mushroom and it was fantastic. The atmosphere is high and it's a very vibrant location. Great spot for lunch and after work drinks.
