Penang Road

I’d been to Penang Road so many times over many many years, and each time the food was good and service was quick. My all time favourites were their nasi lemak with fried chicken ribs and their hainanese chicken rice. Some dishes were not as good; the beef rendang and the curry chicken that came with the roti canai, for example, seemed to be always dry, so nothing to dip the roti into. But overall, a great casual dining/takeaway option and the food was always of good value.

This morning, me and my baby in stroller came into this restaurant. One assistant required me to change table, and said my stroller took too much place and impacted her business. But in that moment only me and my baby in whole restaurant, nobody else. Even changed table, my stroller would be there, nothing really changed. As it’s restaurant old customer, I felt very angry as it is sheer racial discrimination. In past times, Australian and African customers took baby with stroller, they warmly welcomed. Planning to hire a lawyer and bring its case to court

The food was only ok and not very authentic. CKT was sweet and no 'wok hay'. The Har Mee came with green beans. I had never seen green beans in Har Mee all my life before this. The soup was ok though but I couldn't help but compare it to soup paste I bought from Asian grocery stores.

Trying this out for the first time, very impressed with the quality of the food. Highly recommend the seafood ginger & wine pot.
Will come for for 2nd round, for sure.

Started off good, was okay. UNTIL it came time to order! Served slightly late, and after the order was made. There were orders missing for several minutes! Wasn’t checked up or made sure everything was good and served until the end, and by then it was too late. Appetite was gone from delay and at that point food was mediocre. Disappointed

If you’re vegetarian then I think this place is fine. But if you’re here to order meat then you’ll probably starve. There were 8 tiny pieces of meat in my black bean beef. Their Hainanese chicken was all bones and no meat.

Very cute place that serves authentic Malaysian food in South Melbourne.

We ordered the Char Kuey Teow (stir-fried noodle with prawns) and Hot & Sour Seafood soup.

Great food and good service.

These folk are nailing it, day in, day out.
You know when a place is packed, (on weekdays!) that they must be doing something right.
I can tell you, they deserve it.

Entered half an hour before closing- staff was obviously unimpressed but regardless let us sit down to eat (after asking if they were sure!). Seemed incredibly unimpressed by us existing but regardless, food was great and prices were good, especially for the large portions we were served! Staff could use with lightening up, but for almost closing time, a good meal!

Went in about 30mins before they closed, trying to be polite and nice, we left within 10mins of them closing. They weren’t very friendly or impressed even though we were courteous. Allas the food was delicious and the price was unbeatable

Was excited to try out but turn out bit disappointed. Nasi lemak taste like fridge and rendang were heat up by microwave, try their char kuey teow and it a bit oily and too spicy. Probably just we not enjoy that much the taste but no offence for others to try out.

One of the best authentic Malaysian restaurants. Visited here twice and will happily visit again.

Arguably the best Laksa in Melbourne, price is fair, food comes pretty quick, quality is consistent.

They closed 1 hour early and just shooed us away, super disrespectful and will never come again. Very disappointed.

A place for authentic Malaysian chicken rice. The rice is flavourful and the chilli has the right balance of sour and spiciness.

Tasted and smelled absolutely horrible. Ordered food at 9: 30 and they looked very uninterested. Will never come again.

Good place to have a quick lunch before launching to the market. Our fave meal from here is the laksa dan char kwei tiau. Decent size place if u come with a big group.

I love their Malaysian Curry Chicken! Period!

Disappointed food and service tonight. I placed an order directly through their website, upon arriving, he said they forgot my order and had to wait for another 10 min. When I got home open the bag, there was an item missing. The Laska I ordered was very bland, the only highlight was the large protion.
