Oriental Teahouse South Yarra reviews
68 The perfect place for our family Christmas lunch.
Service from Ash and the team was so great. We were really looked after.
The food quality was great and we were generously offered 2nds on anything we had ordered.
We had cocktails on arrival and the wine list was extensive.
Even the one vegetarian in our party (with 7 meateaters) was given their own banquet without any problem.
My only complaint was that the food came out too fast without giving us the space to really savour each dish of the banquet.it felt a little rushed.
Best place good atmosphere my favourite place renae was perfect never been up stairs if anything air conditioning wasn't the best thank you for a great night happy new year to all your staff and especially renae
Had the tasting menu and overall it was pretty good. Like a lot of feed me experiences, some things where great & others I wouldn’t order again. Friendly staff, prompt service & while it was a bit pricey for the quality of the food that’s chapel st for you. Highlights where the Peking duck, prawn dumplings and the sizzling steak
The restaurant has great ambience, the food is delicious and the staff are friendly and efficient.
Food consistently delicious, lovely vibe. The staff a standout for excellent service - they are really doing something special here with their team.
First time here and absolutely loved it. The food was amazing and a big thank you to our lovely waitress Rose for looking after us with her smile and great service!
Restaurant was all open except for 2 people, states everywhere online open until 10pm for dinner. Went at 8.30pm and told kitchen was shut.
Seemed nice enough but refused dinner service hours earlier than they were meant too. Possibly the owner wasn't there and the apprentices were left in the kitchen. Will try again in a month to see if they can turn my 1 to a 5.
The food was delicious with so many choices on the menu. There were plenty of gluten free dishes including dumplings. Great service too.
Thank you to Jeffrey!
From the pervious eventful last weekend but they had made sure that I came back as a happy customer.
Again I am back and happy to say that there service is exceptional and Marlo and his team made sure my guests and I had a great dinner.
The food was exceptional as always.
The whole experience was 10/10
Will Definitely will come back!
They had made sure that everything went well for us as soon as we entered to when we had left.
Been to both stores, the city and Chapel and I have to say Chapel brings a better vibe. I finished work late yesterday and got there hoping to get something to eat. Me and my girlfriend stayed back a bit while everyone already left but none of the staff rushed us out. Other Chinese restaurants would definitely rush customers out. Staffs are super nice and understanding. The one in the city didn't give me this kind of vibe, staffs and managers seem like they work well together which create a smoothing environment for customers to dine in.
The plant based menu looks great, but the reality was that none of the dishes had any flavour apart from the bbq buns. Everything was very white washed.
We felt like we had wasted our money because we could easily have gone elsewhere, had better tasting food and spent less.
The service was excellent, all of the staff were lovely and efficient.
It was very, very loud and there was no music playing from what we could tell, the space definitely could have some sound proofing.
Don’t recommend if you’re vegetarian, vegan or want genuine Chinese food.
Super quick and attentive staff, food comes out really fast and is beautiful every time we come here. Has a great plant-based menu and lovely ambience in the restaurant.
Average knowledge of gluten free and allergies. Food is good but not with the price. Although indicated in menu, Take extra precaution when ordering with allergies or food sensitivities. Average customer service level
It would have been a 5 but the amount of bloating that lasted a few hours after was uncomfortable. So uncomfortable that will be a while before I go again.
The service was great and the staff very helpful. We got seated at standard table seating in stead of the front window and there was a loud young group of women where we sat which thankful left shortly after.
We ordered a series of dumplings which were fresh and tasty. Also go the slices steak and fried rice with chicken.
I’ve been to the Oriental Tea House South Yarra branch many times but I never got a chance to take pics! Finally this time I did it
I was out with friends this time when I got:
? Pan Fried Eye-Fillet Steak with Honey Pepper sauce - Perfectly cooked steak, nicely seasoned and who doesn’t like honey pepper sauce? ! Its one of my fave
? Roast Duck Dumplings with Peking Sauce - such a nice filling, not too over the top with the flavors so just enough hint of the peking sauce. Looks cute too doesnt it!
NOT PICTURED BUT I 100% RECOMMEND:
? Ginger Prawn Dumplings - Love that ginger kick that you can easily tell from the first bite.
? XO Scallop & Prawn Dumplings - I like the texture of the fillings, XO sauce is just so good.
? Chili Wagyu Beef Dumplings - This is a must try! Not too spicy but they deliver on that nice spice kick.
Don’t forget to order rice though, I mean nothing is perfect until you add rice to it right? ! Or is it just me
Also, I just realised they have a branch in Lt Collins? ! Need to check it out asap
Such a calming experience!
Staff were accommodating to seat us despite not having a booking on a busy night.
We started off with a hot loose leaf tea which prepared us for the wonderful meal to come.
The dumplings were divine, incredibly soft and melted in the mouth. A delicacy.
The fish was also quite creamy and delicate.
I would describe this teahouse as fine dining with a reasonably priced menu. Will return
The food is great but unfortunately not with the service. We came and order few dumplings first with the drinks because we were super hungry, we still wanting to order more and wanted to have a look at the menu after but the lady with pink hair said I can’t keep the menu because she scared that we will spill the food over it mind you we were seating in huge table where I can keep it next to me and not spilling anything on it. She let another lady on the other table keep the menu on smaller table
I think most of the food here are pretty average-tasting, except for the hoisin pecking duck bao and chilli wagyu beef dumplings, which I highly recommend. The duck is very flavorful and tender, and the bao buns are pleasantly soft to eat. The chilli oil on the wagyu dumplings is just divine, fragrant and though not that spicy has enough kick to it. Staff was friendly and attentive too. Bit on the pricier side.
SO GOOD! My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here and every dish was delicious. We left feeling utterly full, and the bill was super reasonable on top of it all. The pepper chicken is a MUST TRY.
