Orexi Souvlaki Bar Cafe reviews
67This is one of my favourite Souvlaki bars. Dine in or take away in the heart of little Greece in cosmopolitan Oakleigh. Great food & service reasonably priced. You can’t beat a great charcoal spit grill that is expertly supervised by an experienced operator. Good parking across the road off Atkinson St. Check it out!
Staff are very helpful and friendly. However, they forgot to bring sides many times. Also, music was really loud as we couldn’t have good communication/conservation with other friends. Finally, staff were rushing as time was near 09.00 pm and they packed everything when we were still eating.
Rude customer service the owner got angry face and not looking to us when we ordered
Food 6/10
Lamb from Orexi just can't be beat! I used to live close by and there was nothing like a Lamb souvlaki on a Saturday. Now I am down on the peninsula but will still make the trip to Orexi for that delicious lamb!
Great service, and very friendly staff. I really enjoyed the meat it was cooked to perfection and the marinade was not over powering the flavour of the meat. Very traditional. Well done we will be back.
I ordered a plain lamb souvlaki, so there was no ingredients for the meat to hide behind. The first bite tasted like a mix of faint tomato and lemon. The second bite left a bitter tang on the side and back of my tongue often associated with meat on the turn or off.
The chips, once I got past the overwhelming amount of overcompensating chicken salt, tasted as if the oil had been cooking fried food and hadn’t been changed for weeks. This mixed with a colour of yellow food dye in a powder coating of salt like snow.
In desperation not to waste the meat, I offered it to my dog, who spent several minutes deliberating if this was a trap or her human’s bad judgement. Our trust is forever broken.
I am writing this review from a bathroom cubical, regretting the last 3 hours of my life.
I would only recommend this place if you are forced into a really bad date or wish to serve a final insult along with divorce papers.
Ordered a souvlaki and a bowl of chips. The souvlaki was good but chips were barely edible, oily, covered in salt and burnt in parts. Definitely not steak fries.
Have been going to this restaurant for years. Still high standard on quality portion sizes.
Less crowded area worth the visit.
IMHO the best food in Oakleigh. Big call I know but everything they serve is always delicious. The quality and FLAVOUR of the meats is delicious. The Salads are excellent as are the breads. Even the chips are perfect. The staff are also very friendly.
5 Stars all round.
Very good service and the staff are very friendly. Food is great. Always enjoy eating here. Brenda
Good souvlaki. Nice bread. Well seasoned lamb cooked over charcoal. Came here for a second souv after being disappointed with our earlier one down the street. Will return to try more.
Good food, but there's no Seasoning in my lamb I had, but I'd definitely take my date here if I had one!
Today, I went to this new establishment in Portman Street. Beautiful outside, stunning inside. Floor to ceiling windows, which lets in fresh air from outside. Staff so polite & accomodating. Had a latte, cold beverage? & galatorboriko. Cake was fresh & home made & so delicious. Definitely come back again soon, I will bring family & friends.
Disgusting place. Doesn't pay their staff. As if people wernt doing it hard enough already. Scum bags. If people do the work then pay them for it!
Visited again today, Nov 2021. What an absolute delight!
Traditional lamb souvlaki to die for. The lamb is cooked over Charcoal and you can taste the difference it makes!
Chips were fresh, well cooked and a generous size.
What I particularly like was that I went in to order 4 souvlaki and the girl behind the counter suggested I get the family pack which included a large chips and was cheaper that buying the 4 souvlaki on their own. This care towards the customer is something I adore and I haven't encountered in a long time.
Great place, give it a visit!
VERY VERY VERY disappointing, The Lamb Souvlaki tasteless, and the owner putting less and less meat every time! It look like a salade Souvlaki! With a greek background the place looks tired and the service bored. Its Sad cause it you to be good. The old man probably made enough money through the year's, and he should be retired or change direction. Playing Lawn balls.
Super delicious chicken souvlaki! One of the best I have ever had. Loved the crispy bits of chicken, super juicy and fresh. Highly recommend. Chips were delicious too.
We went on a Saturday night, just a walk in, pot luck if they could fit us in, the waiter was great, said if we wait a few minutes I'll make something work, and he did, really enjoyed the food, ate way too much!
Loud atmosphere, think that s what made it feel comfortable, must visit place
Fairly average to say the least. Partners meal came out well before mine, salad was not fresh, meat was dry, and the "guacamole" was not. My rissole souvlaki was bland and dry. Service bad.
Ordered the lamb souvlaki here which was great. Succulent, fresh and well proportioned with the other ingredients. Reasonably priced as we ordered the family deal, friendly and efficient service as well.
Great to be out again after lockdown.
