Omnia Bistro And Restaurant South Yarra reviews
81 The smoked trout cigars POPPED with flavour, deeply smoky and filled generously with trout.the steak tartare was really elevated by the tableside preparation, allowing us to appreciate the origins of each element of the dish. I wouldn’t of known tomato salsa was added! The sauce under the octopus was incredibly fragrant and more-ish, i wanted to lick this off the plate! However the potatoes were average and the octopus incredibly chewy.the veg and purées carried the lamb dish, which was itself under-seasoned but cooked well and very tasty when all elements combined.to me it resembled a traditional main you’d receive at a wedding.the salad was dressed in a beautifully fragrant herb dressing, and the fries were perfectly salty, hot and crisp (and we loved the skin left on!)
desserts were fascinating! The liquid cheesecake was exactly as it sounds, gooey deliciousness - we just wish it was bigger and served in a more suitable dish rather than baking paper.the tiramisu was different to any I’ve previously had! Layered with a cacao nib praline, it gave crunch which is unauthentic to the dessert but certainly welcomed.perfect coffee: cream ratio.safe to say we enjoyed our meal at omnia, every plate was certainly wiped clean! While some dishes did fall short, the incredibly friendly service beautiful ambience really lifted our experience and overall rating!
Finally got to try this place and it’s famous duck. I’m not a fan of duck but my partner assured me I’d like it and I definitely did. We had a little hiccup during mains however it was rectified immediately. From arrival to departure, everything was great. Service was super friendly and attentive, food tasted great and venue looks really cool. Had a few kids dining the same night whom were crying a fair bit and once all seats were filled, it almost felt a bit loud and had to kind of raise the vocals a bit just to talk to my partner. But otherwise, will definitely be back
I recently dined at Omnia, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The ambiance was inviting, and the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly.
Omnia is a wonderful restaurant with excellent food, friendly service and stylish atmosphere.
On the food front:
Cigar Trout = 5/5 (a must order)
Warm bread with butter = 5/5
Octopus starter - 3/5 - not bad, just wouldn't order it again.
Steak with fries = 5/5 (cooked to perfection)
Will be back for sure!
If you're in the mood for a place that can transport you to a charming European bistro while offering an impressive variety of cocktails, look no further. You'll be welcomed by a stunning interior featuring glass ceilings adorned with beautiful plants.
When it comes to food, we had our eyes peeled on certain dishes. The ocean trout cigars were a delight and left us craving for more! The steak tartare was presented on a cart, reminding me of Europe. We couldn't pass up on the rare treat of lamb sweetbreads, and they certainly lived up to our expectations. The Scotch eggs were fantastic but on the smaller side.
For our main courses, the duck was a standout – quite possibly the best duck I've ever tasted. The combination of honey's sweetness and the duck's savoury flavours was perfectly balanced, and the dish was both crispy and juicy. I highly recommend trying the duck if you ever visit. The lamb rump was cooked to perfection, and the potato rosti outshone the other side dish we chose. It was like an upscale version of a maccas hash brown, and we're all fans of that classic.
Desserts were a real treat. They were very generous with the tiramisu, but the liquid cheesecake portion left us wanting more because it was absolutely divine!
What an amazing surprise!
My husband and I had a great night Omnia,
The staff was very kind, attentive, nice and caring. Always happy to help and to give us recommendations,
The cocktails trolley was unexpected and all the cocktails were very subtle, not too sweet and perfectly balanced,
The food was very tasty - I strongly recommend the lamb sweetbreads, the ocean trout cigar, the baby octopus and the duck to share,
The amazing waiter took my breath away when he brought the cheese trolley.he couldn't make a frenchy happier!
Thanks again to all, we had an AMAZING time,
We will be back, for sure!
A très vite!
Since the opening our most favourite restaurant in Melbourne. For our sons Graduation celebration we could not have chosen a better place. It was sensational from the food, drinks, service, atmosphere we all had an unforgettable evening.
We will be back asap!
Don’t miss out.
They accommodate to all your needs- no seafood, no dairy, … and you still get kind of the same dishes just prepared for you to enjoy without the scare of getting an allergic reaction!
I was recommended by my bestfriend as she lovess this place so I took my partner and little one here for his birthday celebration. The highlight were the oysters! And the cigars were amazing and staff was really lovely! Our duck was kinda chewy and was struggling to cut with the knife which was the dish I was expecting the most. There was no check back when our food arrived to see how it was, maybe during weekdays so probably a little bit understaffed we can understand. Just realised now our green beans never came but I didnt check the bill only amount. Spent $367 and we didnt really drink mostly just food so I think could be a bit better.
The food is amazing and you can taste the quality! The service is excellent also, a big thanks to Harrison and the team!
One word to describe this place - “legendary”. HUNTER and his crew just simply go above and beyond to create amazing looking dishes that simply tantalises your taste buds. From friendly staff to amazing food - OMNIA is one that needs to be tried out.
Don’t forget to ask for the lamb shoulder and cod fillet as these are secret recipes that you don’t see on the menu. The fact that Hunter came to the door to send us off at the end - “simple things make the biggest impact”
Very nice atmosphere and great interior great place for having a dinner. The service was also great and food was good too.
I heard S. Yarra was a posh neighbourhood. I just paid FORTY-TWO dollars for a pasta main course that came with 8 (EIGHT) pieces of tortellini and a sprinkling of leaves and sliced jalapeño.ouch!
This place is extremely noisy, it is not good for business meeting. The food was very salty, normally customer can add more salt themselves. The service I rated 3 is because the waiter came with the food and explain about the dish, the guy weren't wearing mask and I think he spat onto the food.
I can see how this place has two chef’s hat. The food was impeccable and delicious. The trout cigars were the standout snack. The lamb dish was an explosion of flavour, there were so many great sauces on the plate. The buttery anchovy lemon fish broth was liquid gold. Must try the signature liquid cheesecake, I scrapped every last bit off the baking paper. The drinks list included a nice selection of local and international wines, plus there was a separate cocktail menu. We sat at the front bar area where it got busy and volume increased around 8pm. The bistro had a warm, modern and approachable ambience and service team.
My first time coming here but the service was top notch.
The drinks were excellent and refreshing meeting all expectations. The food was fresh and delicious with the steak and FRITES being my favourite.
Overall, Brilliant, all perfect dishes.
A must visit when in Melbourne.
Very knowledgeable, experienced staff.
Compliments to the Chef.
Thank you for making our Dinner a truly memorable one.
Fun, lively atmosphere, food is quite good and service is friendly and attentive. Does get loud in the front section, I think the restaurant atea at the back would be quieter if that's more your vibe.
The duck was phenomenal. Staff and service were friendly and food came out at an efficient pace.
We had an unforgettable night out at Omnia when we visited Melbourne. The staff were so efficient, friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was absolutely divine. Our meals were matched perfectly to some of the most delicious champagne I’ve ever tasted! Paired with the immaculate (and verrrry sexy!) Yugen Bar downstairs, this restaurant is an absolute MUST
We loved all of the starters! The oysters were perfect! The smoked ocean trout cigar is a work of art - crisp pasty beautifully wrapped around crème fraiche and cured ocean trout, topped with chives. A must-order! Both the bread and butter were soft and smooth - worth the $5pp! The quail eggs were a mouthful of flavour explosion.
The dish that brought me here was the 14-day dry-aged duck. The duck was stunning with the glossiest honey-glazed skin. It was succulent and incredibly tender, and the skin was very crispy. Is it the "best duck" as rated though? Probably not, but it definitely makes my top 3! The second preparation of the duck (duck leg presse) was a great unexpected addition.
The biggest and only disappointment of the night was the rib-eye. It was pitched to us as the last one of the night and specially saved for us as we're celebrating a birthday. It was a big miss? The steak was chewy and definitely not worth that price tag. Steak is always such a hit or miss.
Onto the sides - the potato rosti is a MUST! Soft potato that melts in your mouth covered in a crunchy exterior. The green beans were a little undercooked - not sure if they were supposed to be like this.
My favourite dessert was the mini meringue pie! The perfect bite in your mouth with light crispy flakes and a sweet and tangy pie base. The liquid-centred cheesecake had an interesting consistency and the tiramisu was very generous, but I wasn't a fan of the trifle jelly base.
When booking, I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday - and they emailed me to ask if I wanted to add on a written card and dessert for $10 - this was very thoughtful! & you get to save $9 on a dessert!
They also have a great selection of cocktails, and the service throughout the night was fantastic - everyone was very attentive. Towards the end, I felt like I was rushing them a little because I was running late for a movie, but they were accommodating with cleaning up the mains and bringing out the desserts quickly.
Overall, we had a great time here, and aside from the $185 rib eye, there were some great standouts.
